Tangled in Texas #2

Playing With Fire

Rate this book
Anna Weber is every inch the proper librarian—old-fashioned, conservatively dressed right down to her tightly clipped flaming red hair. She's just moved to a small Texas town, and is determined to spend time with her friend before she has to disappear. Relationships aren’t easy for her. She knows too well what it means to be burned. And the last thing she ever wants to do is fall in love…

Especially not with a fireman who's hot enough to set the entire state of Texas on fire.

Cowboy can't resist the fiery little librarian, and he's determined to make her his. Beneath that prim-and-proper exterior is a woman he very much wants to know—if she'd let him. She'll test his patience. His control. Hell, his very sanity. And for the first time, Cowboy wonders if he's found the one fire he can't control...

Each book in the Tangled in Texas series is a standalone, full-length story that can be enjoyed out of order.

It's all my fault, I admit it. I saw librarian and a red head and got too excited. I have to check my impulses next time.

I noticed that the male characters name was Cowboy but I thought it was a nickname. Surely his actual name would be used as well as his nickname. But no, you go through the whole book with "Cowboy". What sort of nickname is Cowboy? And unless his christened name is Millicent I can't see the reason for his hiding even his identification papers over it. It took me almost to 50% to get used to cowboy being used as a name. And it took even longer to stop waiting for him to go "Yee-ha"!

description

So Cowboy is a cowboy and a firefighter. He's also the biggest manwhore, manslut, philanderer, seducer of women you'll ever meet. Based on this book he rivals Casanova and Don Juan. I got sick of reading about it to be frank. The ribbing, the teasing, accusations hurled his way over this were way too excessive. I get it the author wanted our heroine to reform the playboy, I didn't need it hammered in my brain in almost every other paragraph.

Anna Weber is a librarian on the run. She took the position of librarian with the help of her friend but has no intentions of staying beyond six months. She's built walls around her and wont let anyone too close, including her friend. A lover of books with a determined mind Anna tries to avoid Cowboy to protect her self from future heartache but that's easier said than done.

description

My issues, aside from Casanova Cowboy, were that all the usual tropes, cliches that could be used were used. The initial meeting where he apparently doesn't remember her, his staring and her wondering why(insert eye roll), the token resistance that melts away with a single touch, the unnecessary drama at the end, and that it took her to almost 80% to actually tell Cowboy what she's ultimately scared of.

When most of their sexy times didn't redeem the situation I almost called it quits. But I persevered. There was a relatively good twist regarding the baddie at the end. I was suspicious about it but I couldn't be sure until it happened. So that saved it from being a total loss.

Read it at your own risk. It's all a matter of taste and what annoyed me, you might like.

P.S. Here's a gif of Scott Eastwood to make everything better.

This is the second novel in the Tangled in Texas series and since I absolutely adored the first, I had super high expectations for this one. The lovely Ms. Alison Bliss shot me an email last month and said she didn't know if I would have the time to read Playing With Fire but she wanted to offer it to me. I mean, come on. I immediately said yes!! I had no idea what this one was even about but I knew that I had to read it. It's by Bliss, so I knew it would be exceptional. Needless to say, I wasn't disappointed. After Playing With Fire, I'm totally immersed in my love of what this amazing author can create. I'm a lifetime fan.

Enough of the slightly embarrassing gushing about Alison Bliss ... let's get down to business. I started reading and when I was like 3 pages in, I was already in love with Cowboy. I nearly burst into flames during a couple of scenes ... "Next time we'll try whipped cream ... and a different body part." ... Sweet baby Jesus. Yes, there are other amazing characters involved in this book but Cowboy is my absolute favorite character in any romantic suspense novel. Ever. He's crass and vulgar and I wouldn't change him one iota. I enjoyed Anna as well ... she's very sweet and demure but also has this sassiness to her that makes her a woman I aspire to be. Experiencing the relationship ebb and flow between Anna and Cowboy pushed me to read faster and faster and then curse myself because I was blowing through an amazing book that I wanted to last for forever.

The story-line was everything that I had hoped it would be in Playing With Fire. You won't find any spots that are wordy or slow ... everything moves along at a wonderfully delicious pace that leaves you wanting more with the end of each sentence. Bliss also brought back all of the characters from the first book and it was nice being able to catch up with them and reminisce about the previous book. Absolutely nothing was forgotten and how Bliss can write so many characters with all of their distinct quirks and then bring them back into the fold with a new book just amazes me. It felt like I was hanging out with some old friends that I hadn't seen in a while. It is so difficult to get that kind of feeling from fictional characters but Bliss really blew it out of the water.

I really don't want to get into anything else with this one because I REALLY want everyone to read it and get that first read magic like I did. It is definitely one that I'll read again and again. I'm already itching to get my hands on number three because I want to see what happens next. I just love everything about this book. I could go on for hours but you really need to read it and then let me know what you think about that ornery Cowboy!!

Playing With Fire is the second book in Alison Bliss' Tangled in Texas series and I absolutely loved it!

This can be read as a standalone but follows the story of Cowboy, who we met (and loved) in Rules of Protection.

When I heard Cowboy was getting his own story I was excited. I also thought is there any girl in the world that can tame the man?

Anna is the heroine in PWF and I absolutely adored her. Anna is soft but she definitely speaks her mind when she has to and she's so brave. I found her character to be very lovable.

Cowboy, well I fell in love with his character in RoP. You definitely get a more in depth look into him and his character development was perfect.

Now the mystery. There were a couple things that had my jaw hanging and I give big props to Alison for that. Usually I can somewhat guess the "who done it" or partially what is going on but these were some real good zingers. I was sitting there yelling "WHAT!?!"...didn't see that coming!

Of course there were some very hilarious moments, which is just another reason to love Alison's writing and books. You get it all! Romance, suspense, mystery and comedy. The writing and story was on point.

This is a must read recommendation and another 5+ stars for Alison Bliss

Wow! Cowboy's character in Rules of protection was your loveable playboy type, so that is what I was expecting in Playing with Fire. Don't get me wrong, he can still get the female population all hot and bothered with his sexy smirk or his flirting. The one main difference is, he has met his match with Anna the new librarian. It's positively delightful that someone is immune to his come ons. I laughed throughout this whole book, between Cowboy's attempts trying to win Anna over and Anna finding way after way to douse that flame. Ms. Bliss brought back the cast from ROP and introduced us to a few new ones. Once again all the characters were very well developed, and the plot progressed well with the story. While I did guess the who done it... it didn't detract from the overall feel.. I think one lingering question that will be on most readers minds is.... What is Cowboy's real name. Looking forward to book three in the Tangled in Texas series. Netgalley did provide an ARC to me in exchange only for my honest review opinion. Cross posting to BAPS book Blog and My Reading Reality

Alison Bliss has done it again!!!

Alison's debut, Rules Of Protection was one of my top reads last year and this follow up and second book in the Tangled In Texas series is just as amazing! We met Cowboy in the first book and I have been eagerly awaiting his story ever since. The consummate play boy, we get to see a different side of this character in Playing With Fire. Anna, the timid and damaged librarian is Cowboys complete opposite and perfect complement :). I loved these two characters together. Their chemistry jumps off the pages and that first sex scene is so amazingly hot *swoon*. Just like in book one there is a suspenseful mystery that totally kept me guessing right up to the very end!

I highly recommend this book to everyone and cannot wait for more from Alison!!!

Alison Bliss wrote another 5 star book ... This book brings out laughter crying and WTH just happened ... Cowboy makes his debut in Rules of Protection but you don't need to read that first ( both are stand alone books )... but this book is all about him and Anna which I love. Anna is conservative librarian but is also a firecracker ... Cowboy a ladies man ... will the two come together and find each other ... find out yourself.

Anna Weber is the new librarian in town and she fits the role perfectly. Conservative dress, quiet, old fashioned, but there's something about her that draws the attention of one very sexy Cowboy! Problem is, Anna has secrets. Those secrets make letting anyone get too close impossible. Cowboy is outgoing, fun, with a personality and reputation as big as Texas itself. He's determined to get to know Anna and he want's to know everything! Can she be the one woman who could tame this wild Cowboy or will her past and her secrets keep them apart???

This was an amazing read and it had a bit of everything. A bit of mystery, a bit of suspense, and a whole lot of romance and sexy times! It's very well written and the story will grab you from the beginning and keep you turning page after page. I love this group of characters and Cowboy is one of my favorites. So happy his story is as wonderful as it is. This is definitely a book that should go on everyone's must read list. I highly recommend it.

Let me start this review by saying that not only was this book utterly fabulous, I know for a fact that it’ll be one of my top reads of this year because it was that good. To say that I loved Playing With Fire is putting it very mildly, and the fantasticness of this book is nowhere near mild. This book was enrapturing, vibrant, and so full of the best amount of humor, feelings and emotions, and fierce connection that will have your heart feeling so much.

Playing With Fire had it all, and Alison Bliss’s phenomenal writing brought it all to life in the most real and captivating way. From the minute I started this book I couldn’t stop reading because I was so beyond invested in Cowboy and Anna’s story. I had to know what would happen next, I had to have more, and I just couldn’t stop reading, and that was all because of what Alison Bliss so authentically created and captured in this story.

Cowboy and Anna completely stole my heart right from the get go, and I don’t know if I’ll ever fully get it back from them. I heart those two something fierce, and throughout this book I fell more and more under their consuming and magical spell. There’s just something about them that’ll enamor you, and you’re going to love every second you spend with those two.

This book is the second book in Alison Bliss’s Tangled in Texas Series, though you don’t have to read that book to love this one. The first book in the series, Rule of Protection, was one of my favorite books I read last year, so I wasn’t surprised one bit to find that I loved Playing With Fire just as much, if not more. The world that Alison Bliss so authentically creates in this series is fun, lively, and full of the best characters around. I have to tell you that I truly never wanted this book to end, and I am already looking forward to the next time I get to fall in love with the wonderful and distinctive characters she so thoughtfully created in this book and series.

Cowboy, Cowboy, Cowboy. How do I even being to describe how much I loved that man. I have wanted his story ever since the first book in this series, and I wasn’t disappointed one bit with what I got from him. He is charming, flirtatious, and definitely knows the way to a woman’s heart, but more than that he just an honest to goodness good guy. You know that through every page, and even while he’s trying to figure out Anna and what they could share while all the while being his boisterous self, he is a good guy with a heart that’ll definitely melt yours. Cowboy is who he is, he doesn’t apologize for that, and owns every moment of it too. He isn’t afraid to just be him, and that confidence emanating from him just made me love him even more fiercely than I already did.

Anna was a character I loved and felt so fully for right from the start. This book is told from her perspective, which really allows you to get to know her so well, and the more you learn about her, the more you’ll feel for her, love her, and just connect to her. I loved Anna because I was able to relate to her a lot. She’s on the quieter side, but don’t let that make you think she’s a meek little thing, because that girl certainly has a fiery side that likes to come out to play. She is such a strong female character in her own way, and I had mad respect for her because she kept fighting for the life she wanted to lead after she’d been through more than any person deserves. Anna is kind, good natured, and will just warm your heart completely, and it’s impossible not to become captivated by everything you get with her in this book.

Anna and Cowboy certainly have a fiery connection that continues to spark and ignite throughout this book. That spark begins the moment these two are together, and it keeps sparking and sparking more and more with their continued interactions. Alison Bliss did an extraordinary job creating this build, and this push and pull between them, which invests you so much in everything that they’re sharing. That build and spark gets hotter and fierier the more you read, and you will be in awe of the fireworks when it finally explodes. Anna and Cowboy are seemingly opposite, but there’s this raw and immense connection they share that they can’t ignore, and you get to explore the explosiveness of that connection all throughout this fantastic book.

One of my favorite aspects of this book had to be all of the mystery and suspense so thoughtfully weaved into the story. There’s definitely a few different mysteries weaving their way through these characters and story, and the more you read the more you find out. With each new puzzle piece you’ll want to read more, and all of that mystery pulls you in so immensely to every bit of what you’re reading, and I am telling you when it all comes together you will be shocked in the best possible way. You not only get the best amount of romance and feels in this book, you get the mystery and questions and suspense to thrill you every step of the way while reading, making everything you’re experience that much more incredible.

As you get to know Anna and Cowboy more, you also get to see so many different sides to them. They both have their strong and fierce sides, but as you delve deeper and as their feelings for one another strengthen, you get to see their vulnerabilities too. You see and understand their worries, their hesitations, what scares them a bit about giving into what they’re feeling. Seeing that vulnerable side to them both allows you to understand so much of where they’re coming from, while also allowing you completely understand the why behind the choices they make. You just get them. Their vulnerabilities are so fantastically brought out and explored from Alison Bliss’s writing, and I loved them both more because I got to see and feel that from them.

Reading Playing With Fire kind of felt like going home. This world of this book and its fabulous characters welcomed me with open arms, and that warmed my heart and had me loving what I was reading all the more. I read this book with a huge smile on my face and my heart feeling so much, not just because of Anna and Cowboy and their magnificence, but also because of the other characters that make this series so exceptional. Jake, Emily, Hank, Floss, Junior, Bobbie Jo, Ox, Judd, and everyone else completely won me over once again, and I love all of them for the distinctive people they are. They each add something different to the story, and experiencing this book so fully with them is nothing short of incredible. They all felt like family to me, and that feeling of family warmed my heart a million times over and incorporated itself so perfectly into this book.

Playing With Fire is full of so many vibrant moments that you will feel so immensely. You’ll have moments that’ll make you laugh and just enjoy the life you’re living with these characters. Moments that’ll break your heart and having you want to reach in and make it all better for both Anna and Cowboy. You’ll also have moments that’ll take your breath away because of what these characters are sharing, and the jaw dropping moments that are revealed around every corner. Alison Bliss’s writing allows you to feel and fully experience every one of those moments making this book all the more memorable and enjoyable to experience.

Playing With Fire was an all-around exceptional book that gave me every single aspect that I loved. It had a story that kept me hooked through every word and twist and turn. It had characters that were dynamic, thoughtfully crafted, and easy to connect to and love. It also had the best amount of feeling and emotion, heat and chemistry, and moments that’ll have you laughing, crying, cheering, smiling, and just loving every bit of what you’re getting.

I could honestly go on for so many more words about how much I loved this book. I felt alive reading it, and I was so captivated by Anna and Cowboy and their vibrant and fiery journey together. They don’t have the easiest of stories, but as the saying goes, everything worth having is worth fighting for. Anna and Cowboy and what they share is worth fighting for.

These two characters are amazing and distinctive and so very strong, and yes they are serious opposites, but what they share together and what they could have if they gave into it all is truly mesmerizing in the most magnificent and all-feeling way.

Playing With Fire lets you go on an enrapturing journey with Anna and Cowboy as they try to figure out what in the world they’re feeling for one another. Their journey is full of twists and turns, and plenty of emotion, and I promise that you will be blown away with everything you get from them. You’ll love them, you’ll feel them, and you’ll bask in every moment you share so fully with them in this book.

It truly doesn’t get better than what you get in every outstanding word of Playing With Fire by Alison Bliss. Trust me. This book will have you loving every bit of what you’re reading, and experiencing, and you truly won’t want it to end. Ever.

Playing with Fire is book 2 in the Tangled in Texas series.
Cowboy is a firefighter hes hot and sexy and is the towns womaniser he doesn’t want relationships or commitments fun is the name of the game with Cowboy until he sets his sights on timid Anna.
Anna is on the run, never feeling she can settle down shes moved to a small texas town to spend time with her best friend Billie Jo knowing she will eventually be moving on.Billie Jo gets her a job at the local library and this is where she first sets eyes on Cowboy though shes met him previously she doesn’t think he remembers her.Anna was a vulnerable young woman with deep scars from her past, but shes quietly strong and not afraid to tell Cowboy exactly how it is.She likes to fly under the radar wearing clothes that wouldn’t get her noticed. When Cowboy doesn’t get the fall at his feet reaction from Anna it piques his interest and he sets out to win her over which is no mean feat as she runs from him everytime hes around her.He pushes she pulls their relationship is one of a slow burn theres no denying the flame of passion that’s there between them the chemistry is off the charts but something holds him back when she throws herself at him on more than one occasion could the womanising firefighter finally met his match?A woman who challenges him, wont fall for his lines could it be he actually wants more than just a quick hook up with Anna.
When Annas past comes back to haunt her they are faced with dangerous situations can Cowboy protect her from her past when its hell bent on destroying her future?
I loved this book I read it almost in one sitting captivated by each page Cowboy the dirty talking flirty firefighter won me over from the very first pages,I loved his relationship with his friends and the banter he had with them all.Theres a lot of sexy moments but some laugh out loud moments too as well as twists and turns I didn’t see coming that make this book so fantastic to get lost in.I cant wait for book 3 in this brilliant series.

“I was going to say you looked like an angel. But that’s not quite right. With your fiery red hair, deep blue eyes, and that rebellious little pout, I think you look more like . . . a fallen angel.”

I absolutely ADORDED Rules Of Protection so when I saw Playing With Fire up for review I got giddy with anticipation. Boy was I right to be excited because Playing With Fire blew me away and proved once again that Alison Bliss can deliver a perfect fun and exciting story. Everywhere Anna goes a suspicious fire seems to start which does not look good to the sexy firefighter, Cowboy. He doesn’t know if he should be suspicious of her or protective of her but what he does know is he can’t stay away from her.

‘One look at Cowboy and he was already screwing with my hormones again.’

A curvy librarian who actually does not dress sexy, HELL YES. Anna was so real to me. She wasn’t perfect but Cowboy wants her, dowdy clothes and all. He was relentless but Anna tried her best to fight the urge to jump his bones. His reputation for being a love em and leave em kind of man made her hesitant to even carry a conversation yet alone give in to the many offers he throws her way. But thank god no one can resist that man for too long. I think what I love most about alpha stories is there is one woman for ever man and vice versus. Both of these characters have their flaws but to the other those flaws are beautiful and make them who they are.

“Funny how one woman can make everything around you look so different isn’t it? Cowboy rubbed at the back of his neck and grinned. “Like getting lost in my own backyard.”

I could write a four page love letter to Cowboy but I doubt you all really want to read that so instead I will just let you all know exactly how much I loved this man. We first met him in Rules Of Protection and based off that I expected him to just be a fun loving playboy, so I was blown away by the depth of his character and the pure kindness he possesses. But don’t mistake these word to mean he is weak or a beta male because trust me this man is pure sex and pure alpha and I desperately want him for myself.

“You’re so hard,” I said, then blushed a little as I realized I spoke out loud. “I mean, you have a lovely, um. . .” Damn I still can’t say dick out loud.

I love a rom com but I am pretty picky when it comes to them. They still need depth and heart. I need some drama to carry the story and I prefer fun wit to straight up crass humor and Alison delivers all of these and so much more. As the story develops you fall in love with these two characters and then you get the joy of watching them fall in love with each other. Both are complex and have more to them than you would ever expect. The story itself is very well developed with suspense, drama, angst and a ton of characters that leave you desperate for more in the series.

‘Well, never again. Never again would I give my heart to a man . . . especially since I’d left all the broken pieced of mine at Cowboy’s feet.’

A sexy cowboy, a curvy librarian and a story that makes your heart swell and your eyes tear this book had everything I was looking for and am happy to say I read it in one sitting and I am already excited about the possibility of starting it all over again. This was my second book by Alison Bliss and I will forever devour anything she puts out the moment I can get my hands on it.

Meet Anna, the staid, eyeglass-wearing librarian. Enter Cowboy, our “favorite” lothario and fireman. Mix these two together, and watch the chemistry flair up! If there ever was an example to “never judge a book by it’s cover,” it’s this couple!

In Alison Bliss’s second book in her “Tangled in Texas,” Cowboy the fireman gets the spotlight. Cowboy is known for loving the ladies; cocky, handsome and all so available to them all, Cowboy is the strutting definition of a “manwhore.” But in this book, we first meet Cowboy at the library, studying the books on arson. The chief of his Fire Department and his chief’s wife died in a suspicious blaze, with the finger of guilt pointing at the chief. Unable to accept that, Acting Chief Cowboy is determined to get to the bottom of the deaths. Hmmmmm, this doesn’t sound like our arrogant loverboy at all!

Anna Weber is the “new” librarian in town. She was at the summer camp in town when she was 18 years old and became friends with some of the locals. Anna had a huge crush on Cowboy, but remembers hearing about Cowboy’s “romantic” prowess from other camp females. From the beginning, you sense Anna is “hiding” - under her baggy clothes, behind her eyeglasses and using shyness as a shield. Sparks flair when she and Cowboy interact, but when real fires start up in the vicinity of Anna, her reaction to them creates suspicion.

Another amazing book by Ms. Bliss! I loved Rules of Protection, but PWF was even more powerful. Underneath Anna exterior lays a passionate, beautiful but scarred (in every sense of the word) woman with strength and resolve. And beneath Cowboy’s flirty smile and wink lies a smart, sensitive, responsible man. I loved seeing a different side to Cowboy, and how could I not love the woman who intrigued him with her looks and sharp brain! The romance was steamy hot, but the suspense storyline was just as good! I love the “LOL” moments in this author’s prior book, and those were aplenty here (only a librarian would overachieve in the sex research department!). But the mystery here was engrossing and kept me guessing to close to the end! And I loved the ending, although one question remains to be answered…..What the heck is Cowboy’s REAL name?

I received an advance copy through Netgalley for an honest review.

Oh my goodness! PLAYING WITH FIRE is scorching hot and sexy read! I expected nothing less about the legend that was Cowboy from author Alison Bliss as a follow-up to her debut book, Rules of Protection, and nothing less than excellence is what she gives her readers. Again. The plot is sexy and romantic, yet mysterious with a dash of danger. The characters have fun, yet realistic, well-developed personalities and the dialogue is charming with just the right amount of wit and snark. The core group from the first book in the Tangled in Texas series, ROP, are all back. Their friendships establishing a strong base and balance for the story.

Cowboy, the local legend and player, doesn't know what to think of the pretty new librarian. His usual charm and panty-melting grin doesn't seem to have the same power over her. Despite his best, and very consistent, efforts to get her to go out with him, she keeps shutting him down. He's not used to being told no and is only more intrigued by her refusal. Anna Weber isn't as immune to Cowboy's charm as she tries to make him believe, but she has too many secrets of her own to give into the temptation. She's all too aware of his reputation and doesn't want to get burned, so she fights her desire for him even though he's clearly irresistible.

Loved this book! I love it when the unexpected woman brings the player to his knees. Throw in a little danger, some intrigue, a lot of laughs, and steamy sexin' scenes on the way to the HEA and you've got a book I didn't want to put down. 4.5 stars

Playing with Fire is the follow-up to Alison Bliss' debut, Rules of Protection. For the most part, you can read it as a standalone with no problem, but why would you want to miss out? Do yourself a favor and read Rules of Protection, 'cause that one's awesome, too!

Anna is hiding from something, but we're not sure what it is at first, all we know is she's terrified of fire and the simmering feelings she's had for Cowboy for roughly ten years. When she somehow manages to catch the playboy's attention, she's certain he's interested in one thing only. And with someone dangerous out to find her, she has no need for his antics before it's time for her to run again.

Cowboy's been waiting for something meaningful to come into his life, but he certainly hasn't been sitting at home alone while he waits. Now his reputation is coming back to haunt him as the one woman he truly wants constantly pushes him away. But when he finds out she's in danger, there's no getting rid of him!

Cowboy and Anna are great together, and just like in her first novel, Alison Bliss tells their story with humor, suspense, and heat worthy of a true Texas firefighter! This is a fun read that at times will have you on the edge of your seat. I highly recommend it!

PS - I hope we'll find out Cowboy's REAL name soon! Maybe in Judd's book??? ;-)

Playing With Fire is book 2 in the Tangled in Texas series and is Cowboy's story. We met Cowboy in Rules of Protection and we know he's a bit of a playboy. He's sexy, quick witted, and loyal. He's also a member of the fire department and is investigating a couple of unsolved fires, including the one responsible for the death of his fire Chief.

Anna is the new town librarian. She is quiet, proper, and shy. She has a past that links her to members of her current home town but she can't stay long. She's running from her past.

Cowboy may have finally met his match in Anna. Anna is the only woman that Cowboy wants but can't get. Anna has had a crush on Cowboy since their teenage years but she can't and won't act on it when she knows she has to leave soon.

Read to find out what happens when the past comes into a new light? Can Cowboy convince Anna that they are worth a chance? Can Anna accept that what she knows may not have been the real truth?

This was an amazing book! I was so excited to read Cowboy's story and Alison did not disappoint!! I loved the banter between Cowboy and Anna. We got to see the characters from Rules of Protection and I loved their parts in Cowboy and Anna's story. I highly recommend this book!

Amazing!!! I have been dying to read Cowboy's story and it was everything I was expecting and more! This book really had it all for me. There were some great, typical Ms Bliss, laugh out loud moments which were just as well written as the heartfelt heartbreaking moments. And as far as steam level goes, it pretty much burned up my Kindle! The characters were really well developed, I felt almost personally connected to them by the time I was done. I really enjoyed peeling back the layers of Cowboys and especially Anna's personalities throughout the book. It was fun to try and figure out their secrets and the ongoing mysteries.

Cowboy and Anna are perfect together. Even though they are so different, they are each what the other needs and it's apparent time and again. Although I wanted to slap him in the head a few times, I wouldn't mind a sexy Cowboy for myself! I'm so glad everyone from book 1 was in this one. Some of the best scenes involved the whole gang. I hope Bobbi Jo get her happy ending next!

If you can't tell already I loved this book! I will read anything Alison Bliss writes but Cowboy has a special place in my heart...now if he would only tell me his real name!

Playing with Fire is book #2 in the Tangled in Texas series.

O my gosh Alison you have done it again! I loved this story! We met Cowboy in Rules of Protection. I was excited when I heard he was going to have his own book.

Cowboy is sexy, fun loving, and a real ladies man. Is there a lady out there that can tame this playboy firefighter?

Anna moves to town to hideout from her past and takes a job at the local library. At first glance she is shy and reserved but in the end she is a fiesty red-head that can hold her own.

In walks her old crush Cowboy that she has not seen for years. Cowboy is doing research for his investigation. He wants to bring justice to whoever is responsible for his fire chief's death. Anna needs to resist his playboy charm so she can leave in a few short months with her heart in tact. If Cowboy has his way he wants to to uncover everything about this woman.

I highly recommend this series. It is one of my favorites. It is a "must " read.

I can't wait to read the next book in this series.

I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review!

Great read! There's hot sex, lots of intrigue as you try to figure out what Anna's secrets are as well as what's going on around the town. Really good characters!

Anna Weber is new to Liberty, TX. She has come to town to take a librarian position and be close to her friend Bobbie Jo for a bit. She plans to move on in a few months.

Cowboy is an ornery, cocky cowboy, but boy is he adorable! I can just imagine that grin on his face every time it's mentioned. He's got quite the reputation around town for being a player, but that doesn't stop Anna from getting flustered every time she's in the same room as him. She's innocent and straight-laced and definitely not his normal type, but he doesn't seem to be able to resist the draw to have her.

Just as they are allowing themselves to grow closer and hope for something more, everything blows up around them. We learn what Anna has been hiding and why she's on the run. Will Anna take off again as she has planned, or will Cowboy convince her to stay and fight for them?

Yesssss Alison Bliss did it again!!!! This was so good. I remember when I finished reading Rules of Protection and wanting nothing more but to read about Cowboy falling hard in his ass so I was so happy when she told me the next book was about him. And is here . And I just read it. And it was amazing. She did not disappoint I freaking loved it.

I totally adore Anna she was vulnerable but she knew how to speak her mind and most of the time with no filter which I love.

And Cowboy well what can I say about this gorgeous, cocky, sexy, fireman God I love him. I love how this totally unexpected girl rope this womanizer who didn't do relationship and suddenly turn into this hot alpha.

Love them together. Love the story. Love this book and love catching up with Jake and Emily and the whole gang.

I just have one question What the he'll is his name? Did I miss it? Was it mention and I did not see it?
Well that was more than one

In August 2014 I read the first book in the Tangled in Texas series ‘Rules of Protection’ by Alison Bliss. Not only did I completely fell in love with her writing and this series, I also became a part of her street team. Soon I not only was a big fan of ‘Rules of Protection’, but also came to know Alison Bliss a little more. Not only is she a great author but she’s also a very kind person who really cares for her fans. So when her new book ‘Playing With Fire’, the second book in the Tangled in Texas series was available for reviewing, I signed up as soon as possible. I was super excited to start reading and when I finally was able to, I didn’t stop until the very end.

In ‘Playing With Fire’ we meet Anne Weber, a librarian who knows how to hide herself between books and boring clothes. Anne has just gotten a new job as a librarian in a small Texas town, a town she visited before almost ten years ago. Anne loves the little town and its people, but she also knows she won’t be able to stay for long. When handsome playboy ‘Cowboy’ starts noticing her, Anne doesn’t know what to think. All she wants is to stay away from Cowboy, since she just knows he is trouble, but her body and heart seem to want something else.
Cowboy has always had a reputation for being a total womanizer, and he always made sure his reputation stayed in place by flirting with every woman who came to town. But when Cowboy meets Anne his life changes instantly. All Cowboy wants it to spend time with Anne, but Anne is the only woman who doesn’t seem to want to spend time with him.

For a very long time I was waiting to finally read the second book in this series. And now I just can’t believe I’ve read it already. I should have read slower… I should have been able to enjoy it longer… Well.. Who am I kidding? This series is meant to devour!! From the moment I started reading ‘Playing With Fire’ I just couldn’t stop. This is just such an addicting read, you really can’t stop until you know how it ends. The romance is sweet, hot and just makes you fall in love with those characters.

The two main characters Anne and Cowboy were great and I loved them from the very first page. Especially Anne. I loved how shy and even a little naïve she was. But most of all I loved the way she acted and reacted when Cowboy was near her. Her reactions definitely made me laugh at times. And although I really don’t like arrogant man, Cowboy was a character I liked from the moment I read about him in ‘Rules of Protection’. Somehow you just know there is more to this character than his arrogance.

The best parts about this book were definitely the ones were Anne and Cowboy were arguing about Cowboy’s reputation and why they shouldn’t date. It definitely made me laugh a lot.
But not only is this book a great, steamy and hot romance but there’s also quite a lot of mystery. I really loved the combination of these two genres.

Yes, this book definitely gets 5 stars from me. I just love this series and I can’t believe I have to wait again to read the next book in this series.
Alison Bliss is definitely an author who should be watched.. because she can really write!

I received an ARC (Advanced Review Copy) of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Have you ever read a book in a series where the author spends so much time introducing a new character or re-introducing old ones that you lose the plot and interest?

Well, this is NOT one of those books!

I have anxiously awaited the release of this book since reading the first in the series and am happy to say the wait was not in vain.

From the very beginning, the characters--new and old--are brought in as if you're catching up with old friends you haven't seen in a while.

The interaction and relationship between all the characters is deep and thorough, bringing in subplots from the first book, Rules of Protection, like ongoing friendships should be portrayed.

The lead female character is new but introduced in such a way that it's like being introduced to a new mutual friend by old friends. And her story unfolds as the known characters learn more about her, giving the entire story a nice flow and tension that keeps you turning the page to see what will happen next.

You're intrigued from the very first page, left to wonder at times how things are going to work out and keeping the tension up through the whole book.

I was impressed with the way the passage of time between books was handled. Again, it reminded me of catching up with old friends.

Alison Bliss is one of the few authors I've seen use a single, first person POV through the whole book. With many attempts, it comes across as stilted and too one point of view but she manages to get the actions and emotions of the other characters across clearly while maintaining the focus of the story where it should be.

Whether you've read Rules of Protection or this second installment is your first introduction to the Tangled in Texas series, you will be able to follow and enjoy the story since past events and characters are introduced in such a way as to bring you up to date without overshadowing current events.

Anna is the new librarian in town. She's quiet and conservative, she dresses like a grandma and doesn't want attention. Cowboy is a sexy fireman, he can get any woman he wants and when the quiet librarian doesn't return his advances, she catches his interest.

I am really torn on my review of this book. I really loved this authors first book but this one missed the mark a little for me. I liked the mystery and suspense in this story. There were some twists and turns I didn't see coming. I liked the witty one-liners and banter with some of the supporting characters. I also really liked that we get to catch up a little with Jake and Emily from Rules of Protection - even though this was a standalone, it was nice to catch up with some of the characters from the previous book.. The issues I had with this book had more to do with the relationship between Cowboy and Anna. I really struggled with their relationship and it made the book slow for me, even with the suspense. While I did have issues with this book, I think many others will like it and enjoy this story. Even thought this book wasn't a favorite for me, I look forward to reading more by this author in the future.

Move over Jake because Cowboy has the reins! Whoo! I absolutely love this story. I spent all day coming back to Cowboy and Anna’s story. Every chance I got you’d find me with my kindle and a huge grin. You’ll be laughing right along with these characters.

Cowboy is not only a fire fighter but the Captain. He’s a smooth talker, player and definitely one you need to be on the lookout for. Even though he’s known as a player he's a sweet caring man that just wants more out of his relationships. Then he realized the librarian is just what he needs-- too bad she’s not interested.

Anna moved into the small town for the position of being the owner of a library, but what her friends don’t know is that she’s really hiding from a man that wants her and only her. She doesn’t do relationships even though she’s had a crush on Cowboy since she first laid eyes on him during a camp they volunteered at.

Will Cowboy be able to finally put out the fire in Anna’s past or will these flames be too much for this fire fighter?

Wanna find out? Then make sure you buy your copy of Playing with Fire (Tangled in Texas, #2) because this one’s going to be a scorcher.

Highly recommend. You can read this as a standalone, but you should probably read “Rules of Protection” to get the full gist of this awesome author!

Today seems to be the day for middle of the road books...

A librarian and a fire fighter, yes please, sign me up..turns out I should have skipped the signing!!

I really liked book one in this series, alas book two was a disappointment. :(

Cowboy is a manwhore (of course he is), he's slept with every woman in town, and probably a few farm animals. How do I know this, because it is repeated ad nauseum through THE WHOLE FRIGGING BOOK! Not a chapter goes by without us having someone remind us of his horn dog ways..sigh.

Anna is an introverted, scared, virginal librarian (of course she is), of she had sex once before, but it was BAD BAD BAD, so now she spends her time reading romance books, watching porn, and practicing fallacio on bananas, you know, normal stuff a 20 something woman would do. (insert side eye sarcasm) Also fires seem to spontaneously combust in her presence!

The push/pull between these two was annoying as hell, the mystery was boring, and I totally didn't even care who the bad guy was by the end. And let's talk about her friends, my God, with friends like these people who needs enemies! They said she dressed like a grandma, was a mouse, was boring, they couldn't figure out what Cowboy saw in her, they reminded her continuously about how much of a horn dog her was..geez!

Lastly, let us speak about the fact that at the beginning of the book Cowboy doesn't want to get a library card because he doesn't want anyone to know his real name. Well guess what folks, you never get to know what the hell his real name is?! In the epilogue they are married, so I guess the preacher has to say "Do you cowboy take this banana loving harpy as your wife??"

Not good dude, just not good...

This is my first book by Alison Bliss and it was a good choice for me. This book seems to be a standalone from the first book. Which I will be reading in the near future. I was able to read this book and not feel lost at all.

The two main characters, Cowboy and Anna were awesome. I love seeing Anna resist his charms as he is use to getting any female he wants. Well Cowboy has met his match in Anna. She always seemed to find away to resist his charms. Well until she didn't. Anna was a sweet and lovable character. But she could also be feisty and strong when she had to. Loved her! Cowboy was hot, sweet, lovable and I also enjoyed reading about him.

This story was sweet, laugh out loud funny and spicy too! All three are great ingredients for a lovely book. But I do have a question, what kind of name is Cowboy? Lol. Maybe we'll find out?

Definitely 4 stars for me! Recommend.

Cowboy is a man who loves women, is skilled at picking them up and has the reputation to prove it. But you wouldn't know this by Anna Weber's reaction to him. He just can't seem to wow her with his considerable charm and that's something that has never happened to him before. The sweet librarian is a challenge he can't resist and is determined to break down her barriers but he's in for a tough time because she will test his patience and control in every way possible.

Anna Weber is hiding out in Liberty, Texas just until she can put her plans into action and getting involved with any man, let alone the playboy fireman is the last thing on her list of priorities but Cowboy won't take no for an answer. Anna has been down this road a few times and knows that it will always end in disappointment so she doesn't plan to even start anything. In addition, she had a crush on Cowboy when she was younger but he never saw her and she doesn't want to repeat that experience. But when suspicious fires begin to happen around her and she starts to receive threatening letters, Cowboy is the one person riding to the rescue. But Anna's hiding something and how will her secrets affect her budding relationship with Cowboy?

Anna is quiet, shy and quite inexperienced but is definitely a match for the worldly and outgoing Cowboy. These two are very different but bring out the best in each other. The banter between them was very funny and Cowboy seemed to love the chase. More than the chase though, he wanted something special like his friends had, but had to contend with his reputation as he tried to convince Anna that he wanted forever with her.

This was a fun and humorous book overall and had me laughing really hard at the antics of the characters, not just Cowboy and Anna but the rest of their posse. I love the way Ms. Bliss portrays the small town and its characters. The mystery and suspense added to my enjoyment of the story. I have just one question: what is Cowboy's real name?

I received an arc for an honest review.
Alison has done it again – written a raging hot romance with all of the fun and drama you could want.

Anna is the epitome of what you think of when you imagine a librarian – she is super conservative in both her clothing and her demeanor. Yet there is something about her that seems to speak to Cowboy (whom we met in Rules of Protection).

Cowboy is everything that Anna should not want – a smoking hot firefighter with the reputation of being a ladies man. But she still thinks about him when she shouldn’t.

Anna is keeping a secret and Cowboy is willing to do anything to learn what it is. As fires seem to keep popping up whenever Anna is around, Cowboy has to start wondering if she has anything to do with them. Anna just continues to proclaim her innocence while trying to keep Cowboy at arms length.

This is a great story with well-written characters, not just the main ones but you will fall in love with the secondary characters as well. The book is well-edited, I didn’t notice grammer issues or typos which makes the story fly by.

Will Cowboy be able to get beneath Anna’s straight-laced façade? Definitely give this one a read to find out – you won’t be disappointed. 

OMG, and here I thought Jake and Emily were crazy. "LOL"

Finally, the book we’ve all been dying to get our hands on!

We first met Cowboy in Rules of Protection. What we saw there was the player, the man who has a new girl in his bed every night. He’s charming, he’s funny and he’s the ultimate player. Love ‘em and leave ’em is his motto and he’s fine with that.

His reputation surely doesn’t bother him until he meets Anna.

She has a lot of secrets and hides behind old fashioned clothes, trying to keep everyone at a distance.

She’s smart and the total opposite of the women that have always trailed after the hot fireman but, when their worlds collide, it’s going to be an event that will change their lives forever.

Saying that I loved this book is not enough. Alison has really outdone herself.

It was nice to see all the characters together and how the connections between all of them have developed and changed.

Emily is the same smartass we all know and love and she still keeps Jake on his toes while Cowboy and Anna figuring things out is a hilarious comedy of errors.

There’s a lot of mystery surrounding Anna and strange things happen wherever she goes.

The suspense mixed with the humor and the romance made this novel very hard to put down. I was up all night reading and I don’t regret a thing.

Hard to believe this is Alison’s second book. Her writing is brilliant and she’s getting better with every novel she puts out there.

She’s also a big tease. Really, Ali? Teasing us with Cowboy’s real name and leaving us hanging? Not nice. *pouting*

Another highly recommended must read. I can’t wait to get my hands on the next novel.

Happy Reading!!
