I found this book by accident in a London museum shop, and feel very fortunate to have done so. It's a marvelous book in that it fully succeeds in its central purpose: to leave the reader feeling that he really knows Marcel Duchamp, as a person and as an artist (though the term "artist" is a little odd when applied to him).

Parkinson says early on that Duchamp has a "reputation which surpasses Picasso." That might be hyperbole, but the core of it has validity. Duchamp changed the definition of wh

There is a lot of information in this book about Marcel Duchamp and his mad mind. With clear images and succinct accurate text this book is easy to read but useful to get a basic understanding of the thinking behind this artist and to some extent his contemporary author working in the same genre.
