Definitely had some provocative chapters, but this was inconsistent throughout the anthology which made getting through it a bit of a chore. Also, it's definitely a product of its time: it was published in 2016 and reflects the anxieties up to then (naturally). It would be interesting to read some of the authors do a follow up, to include an analysis of Star Trek: Discovery, and Janelle Monae's album Dirty Computer, and in fact, the Wonderland Arts collective in detail.

There are some good essays in here and the topic is on fire, but the level of writing is inconsistent, too many authors waste a lot of time laboriously introducing their own (largely similar) definitions of Afrofuturism, the editing is downright sloppy, and the index is maddeningly incomplete – even to the point of uselessness.
