Take a journey with a young man whose passion and relentless desire to play Division I college football propels him from a childhood dream to high school stardom. His hard work and dedication at Victor Valley High School pays off and lands him at the prestigious United States Military Academy at West Point. After successfully completing camp, his football hopes are high until an unforeseen event launches him into a dark depression. An emotional decision leads to the abandonment of his childhood dream and causes him to leave the academy. Left with a shattered dream, distracted by fast money, alcohol, and the nightlife, he struggles to stay in college. Went to high school with the author so was hoping for more juicy high school tidbits or rehashing high school moments but the high school years were really rushed through in the book. I like how Hendersen tries to share life lessons throughout the book that the reader can tell he probably didn’t realize were life lessons at he time but in writing the book and reflecting back on things that happened he sees the things he should have learned and the outcome of his life could have taken a different path if he figured out some of those lessons earlier. I don’t like how he “glamorizes” the quick money part of selling drugs in this book and doesn’t share the negatives! Also gives excuses for behavior at time when should have had more personal accountability. Short version - stay in school, don’t do drugs, have a dream/goal you are always working towards to be happy.

Memories of VV

I loved it..being from VV myself and having played for the Jackrabbits..83-85..I too was in line for Annapolis..and fell short..which led to my joining the Army..since then, long ago... I relive all those memories from my adventures...story really hit home..thank you..
