Thank you to the author, A.M. Heath for gifting me with a copy of In the Shadow of Thy Wings in exchange for an honest review!

This book took me on a roller coaster of emotions! One moment, everything is fine and the next, everything is falling apart! Once again, I thoroughly enjoyed reading about the Civil War time period and people's lives as they lived through a period of war that split the nation. Claire and Sally were my favorite two characters by far in this book! Their dialogue is quite wo

This eloquent sequel continues the story of the Harper and Chandler families, two southern households with young men fighting in the Civil War and young women who have stayed behind, yet are intricately involved in the war effort. A.M. Heath brings us readers along with her well-rounded characters as they struggle not only with their flesh-and-blood enemies, but also with their consciences, with the Scriptures, and with family relationships and friendships as the Civil War commences on it blood- ...more

Not being a romantic enthusiast, I started not caring for book 2 as much as book 1. I realize that this was because there was more romance, infatuation, and falling in love than I personally prefer (I would have rathered hear more about the Underground Railway activity), but I don't hold that against the author nor do I think it dampens the story for the reader (unless you're like me, in which you now know what to expect ;)).

However, as the story progressed and details of the war rolled in, I fo

Wow! What an amazing read! A.M.Heath pulled out all the stops in this sequel to her first book "Where Can I Flee". All the familiar characters are in this latest book along with a few surprise characters.

As in the first book. the reader is treated to letters exchanged between Frank Harper and his twin sister, Claire

Even though the Civil War was a very dark time period in our nation's history, A.M.Heath does not focus exclusively on the evil and depravity of that time.

The second book in the Ancient Words Series does not disappoint. Life continues for the Chandlers and the Harpers as the Civil war drags on. The war brings constant dilemmas for these families. Frank becomes the focal character as he grows in his new faith and finds challenges to his moral viewpoints. Ralph, Claire's love interest and Union soldier, takes on a bigger role, too. Surprises meet the reader throughout!

I enjoyed learning more about what it was like to live during this time of America

This is the second book in the series, but let me say it was just as great as the first one. "In the Shadow of Thy Wings" kept me reading way into the night. From the very first chapter I was hooked! I loved Claire's personality. She was fascinating to read about even when she was sick. Of course I loved the other people in the book also but I guess she was my favorite. She felt like she could take on the whole world and showed such courage when something terrible was about to happen to her. If ...more

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for a review. I was not required to give a positive review and all thoughts are my own. I was extremely excited to have an advance copy of this book to edit and review. After reading the first book in the series, "Where Can I Flee," I was anxious to find out what the characters would go through next. I was sad to finish the book and realize I would have to wait a whole year for the next one! I would highly recommend the whole series to a ...more

Powerful, realistic plot and true to life characters that I connected with. A box of tissues was needed with the despair and losses the soldiers and their families experienced. I was caught up in all the action, conversations and major events that were well researched for this astonishing Civil War book.

Full review will be shared later.

Wow is the first thing I think of when I think about "In The Shadow Of His Wings" by A. M. Heath. I usually saved the rating till the end of my review but I am giving this book five stars and I would give it ten if I could. Yes it is that good! This book is about Civil War and the Underground Railroad. It is based on history and interwoven with Biblical scriptures. I really love how A. M. Heath took history and combined Bible scriptures and added fiction to make a great story, that any reader tha ...more

WOW! This book was absoutely amazing! From start to finish I was completely consumed by this book and if it weren't for my three little ones I would have probably pulled an all day/nighter just so that I never had to put it down! But alas, I had to take my time with this book! The author A.M. Heath really has a way with words. She has a wonderful God given ability to weave the words together to make you feel such intense and real feelings. I love how she seemlessly blends fiction and non-fiction ...more

I wish in this case I could give three and a half stars, I rounded up instead of down in this case. The story is the continuation of the first book in the Ancient Words series and follows the life of Claire and Frank Harper and their close friends, the Chandlers.

If it is true that the middle book is the most difficult to pin down as far as plot, this novel is no exception. I had difficulty pinpointing a plot arc in the first book and this one is quite possibly even more ambiguous. It is quite li

WOW!!! I felt like I was on an emotional roller coaster while reading In The Shadow of thy Winds. Anita is such a great author, she made the characters in the Civil war seem real and made me feel like I was there and was able to see parts of the war. All through the book I felt all their emotions, the good and bad and how each character handled the situation they were in.
At one time I caught myself praying for a character then I realized what I was doing and got tickled at myself and ask God to

Where Can I Flee and The Shadow of Thy Wings wonderfully captured the Civil War Era. For those of you who love this time period, you should read these books; you will not be disappointed! Claire was absolutely my favorite character; she is the type of female lead that I like to read about in books. Claire’s love for her brother was also inspiring to me. She never let her brother’s attitude dissuade her from who she is and what she believes. The only problem I had with this book was the way some ...more

"In the Shadow of Thy Wings" by A.M. Heath is the second book in the Ancient Words Series. It picks up where "Where Can I Flee" ends and should be read in order. This book follows Frank Harper, Sally Chandler, Claire Harper, Olen Harper, and Ralph Williams. There are some letters between the characters, but not as many as are included in the first book. The romance that I wished for in the first book was finally brought out in this book. I enjoyed watching the romance blossom and grow. The Harpe

As you start the second book in the series, In The Shadow of My Wings , the author continues the story of Claire and Frank. We find a spiritual growth in the family and a secret that their dad reveals. Will this secret divide the family? The details of the Underground Railroad fascinated me and kept me emerresed in the gripping story. This is one series that has found me wanting to know more about this particular time in history. The second installment in the Ancient Words Series was a wonderful read. I enjoyed continuing on this journey with Claire and Frank and their friends and family, following along through the perils of war time, the relationship struggles, the dangerous situations the characters sometimes found themselves in, and their reliance on God to get them through it all. I loved the sweet romantic moments, too. This book had me biting my nails, smiling, getting angry, laughing, crying. I'm so invested in t ...more

“In the Shadow of Thy Wings" by A.M. Heath is the second book in the Ancient Words Series. The story is set in the Civil War era. If you enjoy reading Historical Christian Fiction than this one is for you. I love It when a books picks up where the lasted book left off, “Where Can I Flee." My suggestion would be to read these books in order.

I look forward to the next book in this series. Love that there were some unexpected twists and turns, that you didn’t see coming.

This 2nd installment of The Ancient Words series picks up right where Book 1 left off, further developing all the main characters and their relationships in spite of the terrible effects of the Civil War on all. The fact that their faith in God kept them going whether it was faith newly found or faith strengthened over a lifetime helped the book maintain an overall uplifting tone even in the devastating wartime setting. The author's very generous use of scripture, obviously selected & placed aft ...more

I loved this book! It is a wonderfully written book and held my attention every page. I love Christian books that help you to grow as a Christian. I was totally expecting to just read an enjoyable book but God decided to teach me some lessons along the way. I laughed, cried, and found myself praying for these characters. I had to keep telling myself - It is just a book! Yes but it is a book that has changed my life for the good.

I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to read a clean Chris

This was the second book in the Ancient Word Series. This is a very happy book and a very sad book. I laughed and cried. We get to know more about Claire, Ralph, Sally and Frank. This recreates the second half of the civil war. I look forward to the 3rd book that will go into what happens after the war is over. I received this ebook from Celebrate Lit for a fair and honest opinion.

To be honest, I'm seriously conflicted on how to rate this book. For most of the first half, I would have rated it about three stars--nothing really jumped out at me, good or bad. Then...something...happened that left me so shocked and devastated that I almost didn't finish, and I was determined that I wouldn't rate it any more than three stars, no matter how good the rest of the book was. But then by the end, it was pulling on my emotions again in a good way, so that I kind of feel like bumping ...more

Spoiler alert

I absolutely haaaaate A.M. Heath! She forced me to stay up all night reading this can't-put-down book! And a good part of the night was spent in great, gut-wrenching bawling when she killed my favorite character. Whhhhhhy!?! I'm not over it yet. I am relying on book 3 for the answers I need. Starting as soon as I grab a power nap, I'm so thankful the whole series is available and I don't have to wait a year for book 3! These books must be read in sequence to get the proper story.

In The Shadow of Thy Wings is filled with many of the characters that we first met in Heath's debut novel Where Can I Flee? Claire, Frank, Sally, Ralph and of course Olen all have strong roles in this novel. Each character experiences changes in their lives whether it be with faith, love, life in general, or brought on by the war. The characters are complex and leap off the page.

This book follows the characters to the completion of the war and the joys and trials that they each see. I loved expe

“Where Can I Flee” is the first book by A.M. Heath and should be read first in order to truly understand and appreciate this book. Even though the Civil War Era is not one of my favorite time period for a romance novel, this book is fantastic in picturing that Era and accurately portraying the attitudes and fears of the people that lived during that time.

What I liked: The characters had a genuine love and close relationship with God which they portrayed throughout the book. They also had a love

In the Shadow of Thy Wings centers around the Maple Grove neighborhood during the war, and those facing horrific and difficult situations. Claire harper is determined to help those who are injured in the war, which puts her in the path of a certain Union Soldier, and in a dangerous situation. Frank Harper never dreamed that two years after he enlisted, he would still be fighting in the war, but there seems to be no end. This book took a few interesting twists and turns th

In the Shadow of Thy Wings is book two of the Ancient World Series and is as well written and thought-provoking as the first book, Where Can I Flee, was.

The saga of the Civil War picks up where book one ends, and we are again privy to the letters written by Claire and Frank.

Frank is beginning to question his “enthusiasm” for preserving the Southern way of life, and Claire is beginning to fall in love. Each of the twins is immersed in the horrific dilemmas many faced during this trying time in ou

Have you ever had a book that was just calling out to you to read? In The Shadow Of Thy Wings was that book for me. When I received my copy I started reading and then I had to put it down, but Claire, Frank, Sally, Ralph, George and others kept calling to me. They were begging me to complete this leg of the journey with them and find out how their faith in Christ sustains them through all the twist and turns of life. I love a book that makes me examine my relationship with the Lord and makes me ...more
