Reid “Climber” Conway is the best mountain climber on the West Coast. They say he’s harder than the steep cliffs he climbs up. And ever since high school, I haven’t been able to get his cocky smile and his ripped body out of my head.
Worst of all, no matter how much I hate him, he’s my stepbrother.
There are some scary rumors about Reid, rumors involving drugs and the mob. Despite that and despite our past mistakes, I can’t help but blush at every dirty comment he makes at my expense.
He’s famous for fingers that bend steel and break hearts. I don’t want to let myself get anywhere near him. I’m a good girl, the first person in my family to go to college.
When I get sucked into his world, it’s fast and intense. I find myself doing things I never imagined.
Reid is an a**hole. But he’s more than just his rock hard body. I need to find out what he’s hiding before the mob catches up to both of us.
ROCK HARD is fast-paced violent, blush-worthy sexy, and features a hero with a filthy mouth. It’s only recommended for audiences 18+.
ROCK HARD is a standalone, full-length novel. No cliffhanger. Guaranteed HEA.
Blurb: My stepbrother is Rock Hard and I’m losing it . . .

I tried this one twice and both times I could not connect with the characters. I am not a fan of flashbacks. For me it would have been better to just start in the beginning when the characters met and just skip the flashbacks. Also, it would have been better in one POV.
You may love it. It did not work for me. I am not sure about all the 5 star reviews. I am a bit leery...

Wooo wee !! I really enjoyed this book. This is Reid & Rebecca's tale and I found the whole "young love" that got unfortunately squashed by their parents marriage quite sad (even though I knew it was coming. God damn parents, it was Reid and Becca's time not theirs !!! Anyway, I was continuously routing for Reid & Becca and BB did not disappoint. Gusty and filled with twists.
Reid and Rebecca's journey was not all plain sailing and I found the duel POV very insightful. This book is a stand alone and yup my fellow GR readers hallelujah it does not have a cliffy at the end !!! (I seethe at those).
This was my 2nd BB Hamel book and it was just as awesome as the first. I look forward to reading more stories of this caliber !!
Well done BB. Many thanks for the opportunity and well worth a read.
I feel like Rock Hard is a bit different than most of the other BB Hamel books I have read (especially the Stepbrother series). Ill tell you why:
1) The siblings actually have a healthy relationship with the parents 2) There isn't a drama with the parents (the parent being a "bad guy" or blackmailing the MC in any way) that seemingly justifies the siblings behavior 3) The main drama centers around drugs/the mob
Rebecca and Reid have known each other since they were about 3 years old. Both had an infatuation with the other and were about to act upon that when they learn that their parents are engaged. This doesn't stop the feelings but definitely puts them on hold, until Becca comes back from college and the sparks fly again.
I actually really enjoyed Rock Hard! Mountain climbing isn't a sport I am familiar with and I liked reading about it. Also, I am from Texas so anything with rain/cold weather/forests really tickles my pickle because I rarely get to experience that :).
That being said - Holy Moly does BB Hamel know how to write a sex scene. I mean...damn. The chemistry did feel a bit forced at times, and Reid really laid it on thick to where it was sometimes even out-of-the-blue, but all in all I really didn't give a fuck because it was so steamy!
You can never go wrong with a BB Hamel book - also, free on KU.
I absoutly love this authors writing.. I love the whole "mobster/gangster" like type of spin she put in this book.. I totally loved Reid & Becca.. They had feelings for each other back in school but no sooner did they start to show those feelings they get a news from there pairents that they got married... I really did feel for them.. Granted I loved both Reid and Becca's pairents.. they were so good together and deserved the happiness they got.. but it put the damper on the start of Reid & Becca.
While Becca is at school Reid is at home trying to make ends meet to help pay for his moms cancer treatmens.. Becca really wants to be there to help but Reids mom Cora is having none of it.. she wants Becca to finish school..
Reid has had to do some things he is not proud of to make the extra money for the bills.. but as he said he would do it all over again if he had to for the ones he loves..
Will Reid and Becca let the feelings they had when they were in school flourish and come to the front or will they deny deny deny... Will Reid's Mom and Becca's Dad find out what they have been doing..?
I have loved every book I have read from this author and am on board to read many many more from her.
Reid and Rebecca have crushed on each other since elementary. Just when things were picking up between the two in high school, their parents drop the marriage bomb on them. Of course the two still harbor those feelings, and when Rebecca comes back for the summer it's harder for her to resist the frustrating sexiness that is her stepbrother Reid. While getting reacquainted with her hometown she learns it isn't the same place she left and neither are the people, including Reid. Reid finally opens up to Rebecca about everything and admits to needing her help in something dangerous. In between all the danger, things get hot and heavy between Reid and Rebecca! I mean the forest?? I just wasn't expecting that, but man was it HOT! This is a read full of suspense and sexy banter you'll definitely enjoy! I received this ARC in exchange for a review.
Thank you for this ARC copy Rock Hard! It was an excellent read. Reid "Climber" is a cocky, good looking, popular guy who would do ANYTHING for his family! Becca was away at school when a family crisis occurred leaving her helpless to help out. When she comes home and finds out what her "stepbrother" is up to she will do anything to get him out of his situation.
Overall this book is an excellent story! The only thing I was disappointed in was how fast the "situation" Climber was in was resolved. The suspense leading up to the resolve was fantastic but how quickly it ended was a little flat...however, the story between him and Becca = ❤️
I received this book from the author in exchanged for an honest review
This is my first book from this author and I couldn't put it down. The sexual tension coming off of Reid and Becca u can feel it as u read it. With Becca coming home from college she didn really understand how hard it has been for her stepbrother and their parents. With getting suspious of Reid, he finally lets her in and she is shocked. With what she has learned can she just forget him or are they meant to be?
I like this series, the Extreme Sports Alphas. I really enjoyed the storyline in Rock Hard. There was lots of intrigue, steamy sex scenes, the Mob, forever love, and violence. I couldn't put it down! I so wanted Reid and Becca together! My four-star rating? I think the ending was rushed. A lot of buildup to them getting out of the situation in a few pages.
Stepbrother romance following dirty talking Reid Conway and Rebecca Foster, high school students who make out together before they become step siblings. When their parents get married Becca puts a stop to anything ever happening again, not too much of an issue when she’s away at college, but when she comes home from college is she going to have the same will power? Becca and Reid are drawn to each other, he's not willing to give up on them, but he’s hiding a deep dark secret, and Becca is determined to find out what it is. Suspense, romance and lots of chemistry in this enjoyable story told in dual POV.
I gave 2 stars instead of 1 only because I finished it, I felt I had to see how it ended or where it went. However for the most part I did not enjoy this book, the story just was not believable. The characters did not do anything for me, they both lacked substance. The relationship didnt really develop beyond secret rendezvous. As far as the step sibling romance it kind of felt creepy since they kept being referred to as brother and sister. I have read other books where step siblings fall for each and they were done so it didnt seem so incestuous.
Reid is an extreme mountain climber, and Becca has been away at college but is now home for the summer. These two has a history until they became step siblings. They are still attracted to each other, but can they fight the feelings? No spoilers; this is a definite must read, you will not be disappointed! This is a well written, fast paced, and engaging page turner, which is an emotional rollercoaster journey throughout. I was totally captivated and cannot wait to read more from this talented author. I highly recommend this authors’ work for all readers!
Whoa!" About sums up just reading the prologue alone! Kept thinking Lordy what's in story for me when I read the whole book! In the book we have Reid and Rebecca. Reid got caught up in a nasty situation in order to help his mom and step dad during a tough period, and it seemed as though there was no light at the end of the tunnel. To make matters worse Rebecca is back home after graduation for the summer and makes life pretty difficult from day to day when temptation is always right in front of you. Won't say too much, just give a go. Definitely HEA moment.
Girl meets boy, they like each other but fate has other things in mind and their parents get married. So stepsiblings they are. Reid climbs and hikes. Rebecca is an intelligent hard working girl who studies hard. They fancy the pants off each other but Reid is hiding a secret.
Well written with good characters and dialogue. Very predictable and easy to follow. The story was OK but it didn't grip me.
Becca was a brownie. Reid moved to town in the third grade. They liked each other but never said anything. Until one night at a party. They made out fell in love. Two days later their parents surprise them by telling them they are getting married. Keeping this a secret from Reid and becca. Well four years later Becca is back from college and all check has been going on while she's been away. Will these two keep their feelings hidden all summer? Need to read.
Decent plot, but: One-dimensional characters Poorly written/edited Dialogues are as plain and boring as they get Repetitive informations (we get that, she just graduated. It doesn’t get any more meaningful after you repete it 10 times...)
I wanted to DNF at 25%, then decided to just skip every other page to get an idea about how it goes. It was really hard to read.
Is it ok to do something bad for good reason? What would you do, how far would you go for family? Hopefully you never have to go as far as Reid and Becca. This journey shows just how far two people are willing to go for those they love without thought of themselves.
Sounds ridiculous but I should have read Go Hard not Rock Hard by B.B. Hamel. Anyway, the stepbrother romance thing was never really my genre. There was a good amount of heat and some humor. The story line had some issues but it was still a decent read. Dual POV.
This book has it all suspense, chemistry, action, humor and smoking hot love scenes. I have come to expect nothing but great books from this author and I have never been disappointed.
I was very kindly provided with a copy of Rock Hard to read and review by the amazing author B.B. Hamel.
Reid 'Climber' Conway and Rebecca 'Becca' Foster meet as teenagers. One a hard working, shy girl. The other the mysterious new boy in town. They spend weeks admiring each other from afar, exchanging glances and "Hello's" in the school corridors until a friendship begins to slowly grow and blossom between the pair. All until their mutual attraction comes to a head and their feelings and dreams all come tumbling out one night. Both have grown up with one parent almost their entire lives, so when the unthinkable happens and their parents announce their plans to marry it throws a huge stop sign up on their plans of romance. After all, you're not supposed to desire to be with your step sibling in the way that they both do. So when Becca comes home after being away at school for so long will they find a way to live just as stepbrother and sister, or are some feelings too strong to deny?
All it takes is a door. One open door and everything between us goes spilling out into the open. And we both know we can’t survive in the open.
What's better than a steamy hot read? The answer is a steamy hot read that still manages to have a storyline that you can't fully work out how it will play out. B.B. Hamel always seems to write something that's so fraught with action and drama that something rather rare happens, I can't guess how the main characters will find a way out of their predicaments. I keep waiting for the day that I pick her next book up and they don't get a happy ever after. So does this one? Go grab a copy now and find out, I guarantee you won't regret it!
We all have a little darkness in us. But I was learning it was more about how you managed that darkness than anything else. Being a good person doesn’t mean being perfect, it means trying to do your best in a fucked-up situation. And there were few situations more fucked up than mine.
Reid and Becca were both as likeable as each other. Where as she had the trait of seeing almost everyone in too forgiving a light, he was incredibly wary and grounded. When she was overlooking the obvious and putting herself in harms way, he was always there to pick up the pieces. They made a wonderful couple and the personality flaw of one was evened out by the strength of the other, they were a perfect complement to one another. What most appealed about them was how wise beyond their years they both were, regardless of their younger ages they were incredibly mature and the things they would both give and endure for the people they love was endearing.
I felt the pull of both personalities. I was still the girl I used to be, still the girl from Ridgewood, but I was someone else, too. It was hard acclimating to what I had slowly changed into. I hadn’t noticed anything different when I was living at school, but being home made it so clear. I had moved on somehow. But the world felt like it stood still.
This one absolutely hooked me and I read it from start to finish in one sitting (one lazy day very well spent!) I loved how it had such a change of scenery from the normal, ninety nine percent of the book occurs outside and a vast amount of it was based in the woods surrounding their town of Ridgewood. The outdoors sex scenes were smoking hot, who would of thought a change from the usual bedroom in a book would be so utterly exhilarating.
“Or maybe that he wants to lick your sweet little clit until your back arches and you come.” “Reid, stop it.” She moved a little closer. I could see her begin to breathe faster. “You like that, don’t you? You want me to push you down over this counter and fuck you from behind, right here. You want me to spank that firm ass of yours.” She was struggling not to smile and I was hard as fucking hell. “Who taught you to talk like that?” she said. “You bring it out of me.” “Yeah, well, cut it out. You eating?” “If you’re offering, I’d love to eat you in the bathroom.” She smacked my arm playfully, just like she did all those years ago. “That’s enough. I have tables.” “Fine. You just think about me running my tongue along your cit.” “Goodbye, Reid,” she said, looking away. “Have a good shift, college girl.“
Filled with chemistry, action and the odd laugh out loud moment, this was another winner by B.B Hamel. If you've not discovered the brilliance of her books yet then this is an amazing place to start. Another well deserved five stars to this wonderful author. I really do hope to keep reading her work for years to come yet.

3.5 stars
I thought this was a pretty good read, it had plenty of steam, some suspense and some danger that kept me wanting to flip the pages to see what would happen next. I guess I didn’t read the blurb too closely because I wasn’t really expecting the whole drug/mob storyline that was the main thing in this book, but I thought it was good and it intrigued me enough to keep reading. I thought the step-brother aspect really didn’t make much difference to the story, sure they kept saying it was taboo and they shouldn’t be together because of it but for as much as they focused on it the story could have easily been told without them being ‘related’ in that way. It really was a non-issue in the grand scheme of things, at least that’s how I felt after reading it. I almost would have preferred if it wasn’t a step-brother book and they just focused on the mob aspect, the fact that they were step-siblings was almost a distraction to the rest of the story.
Becca has just graduated from college and is returning home for the summer before heading back to grad school in the fall. Aside from quick visits throughout her college years, she hasn’t spent any real time home in a few years. So she has to readjust to the small town living that her home town offers, it doesn’t take her long to realize that things have changed since she’s been gone and not necessarily for the better. And it turns out that her step-brother, Reid, is knee deep in the stuff that is going down. When his money from winning rock-climbing competitions isn’t enough, Reid has to turn to some other more creative ways to make enough money to help pay for his mother’s cancer treatments. Now that she’s through the other side, he’s finding that it’s not as easy to walk away from his situation. Now that Becca’s back in the picture, the stakes are even higher for him to get out of that lifestyle because now he has one more person he cares about that he has to protect.
I thought Reid was a good guy, but he was a bit too arrogant for my tastes and I found his dirty mouth to be a bit much sometimes. He would just randomly come out with stuff but it seemed like he was laying it on a little thick sometimes and I rolled my eyes thinking that someone would actually talk like that and not sound like an idiot. And I found Becca to be a bit stuck up and pretty naïve for someone who was supposed to be so smart and just spent the last 4 years attending college in New York! She got back to her hometown and sort of acted like she was better than everyone, so I really didn’t find myself connecting with her much either. There also wasn’t very much romance between these two, it was hard to really see what their connection was. There was plenty of sex, that’s basically all they did in their relationship, but aside from that I didn’t find much depth in their relationship and there really wasn’t any growth in either character.
The part I did like though was figuring out Reid’s whole situation with the mob and trying to see how he would find his way out of it. There was just enough intrigue and suspense to make me want to keep going. Some of the things that happened are a little far-fetched, but if you suspend some expectation of reality then it’s not so bad. There’s a bit of action at the end as things come to a head. Like I said, I think that if this aspect had been the main focus of the book (and she forgot about the step-brother thing) it would have been even better. But overall it was a decent read and I would be interested to check out other titles from this author.
This is the story of two step sibling Reid and Rebecca.
Reid is a " Climber" and Rebecca is a smart college graduate.
What I liked about this story was that Reid and Rebecca had actually liked each other since Reid moved to town when they were young. They were always into each other and shared something the night before their parents announced their engagement. I felt bad that their relationship was about to somewhat start and instantly it was crushed by their parents.
Again what I really am starting to see in the step sibling books I have read is the similarities in the female heroine being this smart goody two shoes and the stepbrother is always this "bad boy" type. It gets tiring after a while because I wish there were something different. I will admit though that the only character I liked in this book was Reid. There is something about the bad boy stepbrothers ms hammel writes that makes you fall in love with them. And yes! they are bad boys but they also sweet when it comes to the women they love. I loved the way he flirted the bantering between him and Rebecca had me laughing a few times and from his point of view things didn't seem forced.
Unfortunately I can't say the same about Rebecca. She was annoying very confusing. Very naive and sometimes stupid for some on who is suppose to be a " smart college girl". The fact that people dropped hints about what her step brother did and yet she couldn't pick them up was kind of mind blowing. When people called her friend a " pill head" she didn't understand why and often got mad at when people said those things about her friend. I mean come on if someone calls a person a " pill head " what do you automatically think? The fact that she didn't get it made me question how smart she really was.
The story started off good but then it really slowed down to a point where it got a little hard to get through. And once you got close to the end it picks up and it becomes fast paced and rushed.
I really wanted to like this book since I loved the previous step brother book by b.b hammel I figured if I loved that one I would love this one but it didn't work for me. The three stars are mostly because of Reid I would have to say he is the only character I liked and the reason I kept reading the book. The ending left me wanting more it would have been nice to know the reaction of their parents once they told them but we didn't even get that. And the whole drug muling thing was just not believable.
I would recommend this book if your into the step siblings books and semi gangster stuff. Please if you choose to read proceed at your own risk. Others have liked this book and have given it five and four stars so at least give it a chance maybe you would like it more than I did.
****** this Arc was provided to me by the author for an honest opinion******
*I received a ARC in exchange for a honest review* This was a steamy, taboo, stepbrother, sports romance that was about not only just love but true sacrifice of yourself for the people that you love and the perseverance to keep going during a less than devastating times. Rebecca and Reid's love story is one of passion and love that can thrive even in the most dangerous of situations. This was not your typical stepbrother romance since there was much deep rooted evil lurking in their Northern back woods town. B. B. Hamel delivers a story that keeps you on the edge of your seat with all of the action that is interwoven into a story of young love.
Reid "Climber" Conway has been a natural at rock climbing much of his life. He loves the feeling of accomplishment and freedom that you feel when you reach the top of a cliff, which is much the same way he tackles problems in his life. He is not one to sit around and let life happen around him. He protects and loves his family with everything and he is willing to do anything he can to help pay for his mom's bout of cancer that left them struggling financially. Little did he know that the decision that he made to take care of his family would leave him with a sense of foreboding along with little time to spend doing the only activity that has ever made him feel whole. He plans on this being his last summer stuck in this dangerous predicament and all plans go out the window when he is faced with spending time with the only woman who has ever really had his heart. She is forbidden which makes her all the more tempting. He does not want to involve her in his less than upstanding activities but avoiding her all summer is not possible. He knows that Rebecca, was always meant to be his, long before their parents were ever married.
Rebecca is visiting home after being gone to college all these years. She is a computer nerd who feels guilty for having left the burden of her step mother's illness on her father and Reid. Things have changed in her sleepy back wards town but having a special place in her heart for Reid has never changed. The moment she saw him again, she knew that this summer was going to be awkward and full of sexual tension. Luckily she was leaving soon for another schooling opportunity Texas. Little does she know that this summer holds more heat between her and Reid than ever before along with changes beyond her wildest dreams.
Reid and Rebecca have a spicy, young, dramatic, love that will leave you wanting to become one with nature and find a Reid of your own. I highly recommend to anyone who loves stories of forbidden love, with steamy scenes, and suspense. B. B. Hamel is very talented writer and I cannot wait to read more of her stepbrother romances.
