Better than the first, she captured a time where Chicago was rebounding from the fire of 1871, Civil war( who would have thought Camp Douglas was a confederate prison camp in the north and so far west) and a melting pot of cultural and racial diversity.

This time it is a snapshot of Yankee soldiers fighting Confederate bush ...more

I am so happy to've discovered this book...well written historical fiction, my favorite genre, set in the city of my heart, Chicago. It's like reading Rina Lazurus/Peter Decker set back 100+ years....I'm wondering if the author read those? I can't wait to now read her previous book while I wait for her to write another one! ...more
