After spending the last 13 years in a strict convent in Wales, Anna returns home when her brother dies and finds herself tending to a pregnant sister-in-law, small children, and a failing family business. And, though she feels at times like an alien, the experience stirs in her a desire to stay and administer to her long-denied passions.

Got this after seeing the same mini series that "Dan Brown" below saw. Unlike Dan's however my dvd was missing an episode or two, so I wanted to find out w,hat happened. The book is in a long tradition of nun books. It contains many recurring themes of the genre, including doubts of ones vocation, lesbian leanings, heterosexual longings. Sister Gabriel comes out of the convent to save the family mill after her brother's suicide. She is helped by plucky mill workers, a sexy young overseer, and hi ...more

A young woman is jilted by her intended and decides to become a nun instead. She is contented with her life until a family emergency necessitates her returning home for awhile to save the family mill.

Fascinating details about textiles in this book for anyone interested in this subject.

The heroine must come to terms with her life and do a little soul searching as she comes to terms with the humiliating public jilting that caused her to enter the convent to begin with.

A Catholic nun, faith still strongly anchored, abandons her convent that has been her home for over ten years, and returns to her hometown to rescue the family mill that is on the brink of bankruptcy. Her co-nuns rebuke her but the mill workers embrace her for saving their livelihood. You can serve God within or without convent walls. The book was serialized into a movie by BBC.

A very interesting story of a cloistered nun who leaves the convent temporarily when her brother dies. His widow is expecting a baby and also the mill that has been in her family for years needs leadership. She keeps taking temporary leaves to help at the mill and with her sister-in- law and the children. Eventually she begins questioning her vocation and realizes that there is a lot she can accomplish in the secular life. An interesting look at the cloistered life and also at the way yarn is pr ...more
