This book is great! The author includes the Eastern methods of making paper as well as Western. He shows you how to build some of your own tools. The pictures are clear and of good quality. I studied paper-making at school and in South Korea and I'm in the process of setting up my own paper-making studio at home. Anything you need to know about paper-making is in this book!

I selected this book because it seemed to strike a balance of introducing a broad range of concepts as well as providing just enough depth to get the reader interested in each concept. I particularly appreciated the brief history of paper at the beginning, and the inclusion of historically global materials, equipment and techniques. Another factor in the selection of this book was that most other books emphasize projects, whereas I was looking for a solid, broad introduction, “a mile wide and an inch deep”.

There are some issues with terms being used without prior definition, but it isn’t egregious.

A great overview of the history and craft of papermaking, and how to do it at home. It looks like a lot of fun. But what was I thinking? I do not have time for another hobby!

A great deal of information, but a lot isn't easily accessible to a home creator. If you are just getting started AND you have access to a Hollander beater I would definitely recommend this book.
