I had this book as a child about the knights of medieval Europe, now I re-read it again after around 30 years. This is a book for kids, let's say 7+ primary school age and it still stands well to these standards. The single aim of such books was to awaken the love of knowledge and with very nice and detailed pictures, show them a specific topic and want them to immerse themselves inside. I had multiple "Mi micsoda" books and all of them, even if the topic was let's say quantum physics, was well suited for kids and helped to learn a lot about the world we live in.

With the eyes of a historian, this of course just stays on the surface, but you dont want kids to get lost in academic citations or the like, they don't need to know who said what and where. What kids need are a lot of great quality, colourful illustrations, a lot of different questions sparking interest in a child's mind and and engaging but simple text which they have no trouble reading themselves. I admit I still enjoy these books, for what they are, relics from my childhood, which eventually made me what I am today.
