The creator of the Madoo Conservancy presents a collection of essays and articles based on his biweekly gardening columns from the East Hampton Star, in which he shares his hard-won wisdom on gardening techniques, planning, plant care, and more, in such pieces as "Fairies," "The Name of the Rose," "The Garden Tour," and "Manuring."

Read
March 7, 2007Bob Dash lives down the road from us in Sagaponack, LI. These are his notes on making his garden, which is now open to the public. I like the chance to read about where I am, what its possibilities are, and how another sees the same stretch of road.
Since I wrote the above, I have met the author at his house and found him to be insufferable. But then again he is famously grumpy and over 80, so I should cut him some slack!

Poetic, eloquent, comical...how in God's name does one write like this???? Only Robert Dash could!!!! A fascinating meditation on the seasons and moments of life as the artist/gardener extraordinaire. A recommended read.
