I'm a fan of Carina Press. Whoever vets potential books has really good taste. I often find titles through them that I really like, that are in genres that aren't normally to my taste (e.g. erotic or new adult). HOLLYWOOD HOT MESS is no exception. These lifestyles of the rich and famous-type stories usually have me rolling my eyes, but I liked the cover, and the summary hinted at a deeper story. When childhood TV star Carly Klein hit rock bottom, she didn't think she'd ever make it back into the ranks of the Hollywood A-List, certainly not starring opposite America's Sexiest Man Alive, Devon Hayes. When said heartthrob takes Carly to his private island for a getaway from the cold film set, she can't deny that the man heats her blood like she's never felt before. But Carly's a damn m Wow wow wow! It's rare to find a new author with such a brilliant, poignant voice! I'm utterly bewitched.

With Carly's epic struggle with addiction and Devon's professional reputation on the line, something's got to give.

Holy shit, do NOT judge this book by its cover. I thought this would be another frothy, sexy romance, but it's so much darker and grittier than I expected. Carly's story captivated me totally, with her childhood stardom punctuated by drugs, rehab and suicide attempts playing out in the tabloids for America to tsk over. Girlfriend is the typical train wreck, totally immature and unsure how to deal with the ups and downs of life without a line or a needle or a bottle to help. You want to hate her and her scheming, childish attention-grabbing tantrums, but you totally can't for some reason. The romantic feelings she has for Devon start out as a result of him being caring and sweet and playful with her, making her feel safe and worth the effort for the first time in her life. She becomes a wee bit obsessive, clinging onto his attention and substituting the drug addiction for a Devon addiction.

The chemistry between them is exquisite torture, and I swear, even just the first oral sex scene is hotter than half the erotic romance I've read this year. At the same time, I kind of hate Devon for his need to keep things between them completely on the DL. I mean, I get it, but it makes my stomach drop with sympathy for Carly because she deserves so much more than the shit show she got growing up and now being someone's dirty little secret. And, fair warning, this is just about the biggest cliffhanger ending I've ever read, and it had me literally screaming out "NOOOO!" as I stared at the last, blank page in horror and distress. These characters get under your skin, and damn if it doesn't make you feel like Carly's addiction, hungering for more.

Bottom Line: Absolutely brilliant debut novel by Ms. Claire, and I'm already mentally and emotionally gearing up for part 2 of Carly and Devon's Romeo and Juliet-esque love story, Total Trainwreck. - See more at: http://www.theromancereviews.com/view...

I was struggling after the intro, to be honest ( I'm not sensitive about characters usually but this one made me dislike her immediately), and by 20% wasn't connecting to characters or dynamic for some reason. After peeking at Nenia's reviews for both books in this duo, I feel confident that I will not be satisfied with these, maybe even a little pissy despite what she sees as the strength of the first-I will link to those reviews from my computer when I can. ...more

HOLLYWOOD HOT MESS'S title says it all. It is a HOT MESS. And that's not all in a bad way but I feel like the story fell a bit short for me.

This is the story of Carly Klein a child star who fell from grace pretty spectacularly and is trying to make her way back into Hollywood. Her saving grace comes in the form of a starring role in a film along side Hollywood's hottest star, Devon Hayes.

Carly and Devon get off to a bad start. But they quickly realize that the other isn't as bad as they *3 STARS*

HOLLYWOOD HOT MESS'S title says it all. It is a HOT MESS. And that's not all in a bad way but I feel like the story fell a bit short for me.

The truce eventually leads to greater feelings but these two are both really screwed up for different reasons. The question becomes can they save each other or will it they just end up being more screwed up together?

I was intrigued by this story because of the description. I had every hope that it would be a sweeping love story with a side of redemption. But that it certainly not what I got. Carly is really screwed up and for good reason. But she's never dealt with her very devastating past and it drove her down the road of drugs and destructive behavior. She's on her way to sobriety but her next addiction is waiting for her right around the corner and his name is Devon Hayes.

Devon's got his own problems. I thought it admirable that he was trying to keep away from Carly but he kept doing the hot and cold thing and it was very frustrating. He was hiding something big too. Something that we get the full story of, so there is that.

My biggest issue with Devon is that I really hated the way he treated Carly. I especially hated the way she took it. I know that she was screwed up and that she needed to get her self esteem in check, but I really feel like he took advantage of that. And wrapped it up in a way that made her feel like he was doing her a favor.

Also, the story dragged on too long. There were times in the middle of this story that I felt myself drifting off. I had to put the book down a couple of times because it just didn't hold my attention. I know that HOLLYWOOD HOT MESS continues in the next book, and I felt like it was purposefully being drawn out so that there could be two books instead of one.

Then the end of the book...complete train wreck! Seriously, I just had to roll my eyes a few times about the way these characters behaved. I wanted to just tell them both to grow up already.

Of course there was a cliffhanger. The story continues in the next book, so I was expecting that. When I first closed my kindle after reading that last disaster between Carly and Devon, I didn't think that I would be continuing on. But, you know what? I have to know what happens with these two. There are still some unanswered questions that I don't think I could go without ever knowing. So, I definitely think that the author and this book did it's job.

I didn't know what to expect when I started reading Hollywood Hot Mess - but I will tell you that I enjoyed it a heck of a lot more than I thought I was going to.

It is not your average "Hollywood star and starlet have a perfect relationship and become America's sweethearts" kind of book.

It touches on the darker side of fame (especially child stars - think Drew Barrymore in her teenage years). It touches on the drinking, the drugs, ...more

Why? There is something about Carly Klein that already is ticking me off. And I know, I know, I know - there is a huge possibility that she can change from being a judgemental b*tch but there's just a huge part of me that just won't forge on to find out.

I stumbled across this book because I have a soft spot for the whole Hollywood romance love story. I devoured Hollywood Dirt (❤️ Alessandra Torre) and dove right into this book thinking it would be along the same lines. Boy was I wrong!

I don't want to give away too much, but this book was SO MUCH MORE than a traditional romance novel. If you like you happily-ever-afters tied up with a pretty bow in 70,000 words or less - this book is NOT for you. However, if you love grit ...more

Oh, the build up between Carly and Devon - it is the best kind of sexual tension. A well-written, nerves-exposed kind of story between two people who should stay apart but cannot help but be drawn together. Looking forward to seeing how their stories continues in book #2.
