When I placed a hold on this at my library, I didn’t realize the book was written for children with only 30 pages.
But it ended up being what I didn’t know I needed.

After a few pretty rough days, this little book brought so much joy to me.

Picasso famously said “It took me four years to paint like Raphael, but a lifetime to paint like a child.”
But to me, Paul Klee is THE artist that paints what a child dreams of.

This was written for children, so it leaves far too much unsaid. On the other hand, if a picture's worth a thousand words, then this is a monumental volume. The reproductions are excellent, and laid out remarkably well in a clearly German kinderbücher style.

Sometimes the best art books are the ones written for kids. This is one of them.
