The subtitle of this book promises less than what the book provides. Subtitle reads "James Dean's Final Hours," but the narrative is actually a memoir of the late screen idol's life and a description of the fandom that continues to this day. And more! Indeed, just a retelling of James Dean's tragic last day would not deliver enough impact without the back story of the actor's childhood, NY theater and Hollywood screen careers, and relationships throughout his young life.

I am one of "those" fans who remember where I was when I heard he died, who saw all his movies ten times and who has read every James Dean article and book since 1955. I wasn't expecting to learn anything new in "Too fast to Live...........". Wow, was I ever surprised! I now have an entirely new feeling about the actor. I no longer think of him as just incredibly cool, sexy and talented, yet rather morose, immoral and non-caring. This book reveals a joyful, compassionate, hard-working and loyal ...more

In this book, the author attempts to gather information about James Deans’ final days by traveling to his hometown and interviewing those that knew him.
Being a fan of the tragic James Dean, I was really looking forward to this book. However, after reading a few chapters, it didn’t take long to see that the book wasn’t for me. I thought it would be a book about James Dean, maybe a few chapters about his life before going into his final days. However, there was none of that at all. I got through a

I'm a huge James Dean fan and have read most every biography I could get my hands on since 1997. With that being said, this biography gave some of the same information as in past books - to be expected - but also gave new details and interviews from of Dean's closest family and friends. The author did a great job giving detail on Dean's background and last few days of his life. Would recommend this book to a hardcore Dean fan, but not to an individual just familiarizing him/herself with the acto ...more

As a teen I was fascinated by James Dean. Rebellious, charismatic, moody and with a touch of mystery. Well congratulations to Keith Greenberg who has made James Dean into boring! I don't want to read about farmland. I was raised on a farm I don't want to relive the experience!

Finally finished this book. Not bad. Just didn't learn anything I didn't already know. I would like to take a trip to blackwells corner in the future.
