My favourite book of all times! Went through a first "Livre de Poche" edition until it fell apart. Have read it over 10 times and still discover myriad new nuances to delight the senses.

Hervé Bazin is a master of the French "double-entendre" and one feels his deep love of language in every sentence he writes.

For me, a true masterpiece...

Read it for the first time when I turned 20, the latest re-read in 2010.
