At first glance, this looks like a nice cookbook. With great photos and large, easy to read print it certainly is visually appealing. You’ll find reader submitted recipes for super easy dishes like Cola Roast alongside familiar classics like Ritzy Chicken. There’s a heavy emphasis on main dishes.

The recipes themselves are simple to follow and easy to make. However, as you continue to look over all the tasty options, the content becomes repetitive as there are recipes that are extremely similar. For instance, in the party foods section there are 10 recipes for meatballs, and several recipes for kielbasa, mini smoked sausages, and chicken wings. If those are the appetizers that are popular at your gatherings, then you’ll be thrilled with the options although you may find the differences minor enough to think that the recipes really aren’t different from each other. In fact, later on in the book you’ll find two recipes for smashed redskin potatoes that essentially are the same. There’s different language in the directions and one calls for salt and slightly less butter, but otherwise they are the same side dish.

I would have appreciated a greater variety overall. Another thing I’m used to seeing that wasn’t in this cookbook was a page marking the division between sections. Here you go straight from chili and soup recipes to beef recipes with just a change in the color of the page border. It’s a small thing but it felt odd not to have that demarcation.

I do like this cookbook and I found several recipes to try; I’m just disappointed by so many similar recipes. I don’t cook meatloaf or roast that often that I need to mix things up by trying yet another recipe. I do appreciate the focus on main dishes as those are the recipes I’m seeking most and I do anticipate using several recipes from this book.

This is your standard Gooseberry Patch cookbook. Lots of sodium soaked, preservative ladened processed ingredients for ease. I was able to pull out a few recipes I would make for my husband and I. I would check this type of book out at the library, but never purchase it.

Nice cookbook hosting 409 slow cooker recipes. All are easy to follow and the pictures look delicious. Not only are meat ideas presented, there is an excellent group of vegetable ideas and breakfast ideas. This book can really make your cooking easy on a busy day!
