About the author

Wilhelm Stekel was an Austrian physician and psychologist, who became one of Sigmund Freud's earliest followers, and was once described as "Freud's most distinguished pupil". According to Ernest Jones, "Stekel may be accorded the honour, together with Freud, of having founded the first psycho-analytic society"; while he also described him as "a naturally gifted psychologist with an unusual flair for detecting repressed material." He later had a falling-out with Freud, who announced in November 1912 that "Stekel is going his own way". His works are translated and published in many languages.

Freud appreciated Stekel initially, then changed his mind. He may not have grasped the full value of openly dealing with the issues of the soul, in an easy-to-communicate way. For us, some parts of the book may some deep and some, well, not as much, but we have to think about when they were written, and what was discuss-able at that time. It is not as "heavy" as the title suggests, but a very good read nonetheless.

I found this book on Librevox recording. There are different chapters in the book, each discussing a particular trait of human and soul. Particularly the societal point of view for soul found my particular interest. Most of the discussion in this book may be told as an abstract of religious books like Bible or Gita or Quran.

Carte scrisa în 1921, apărută la editura Trei in 2013. Pe nicăieri nu am găsit referiri in carte sau pe coperta la perioada in care a trăit autorul. Toate referințele despre acesta sunt la timpul prezent, ceea ce te duce cu gândul la faptul că Stekel este un psiholog contemporan, pe când ideile sale din această carte sunt destul de învechite.
