Hottie vamp alert! I picked up "Magic in the Blood" after reading the blurb on the back of the book. I'm happy to say that the book was even better than the blurb!! Take one devastatingly sexy vamp, add a female mage, stir in a bit of mystery and a villain or two and you have a pretty fun read with some smokin' sex!

Liz is in trouble. Another mage has moved into her town and is searching for a 'treasure' and he appears to be willing to kill to find it. She's been keeping a low profile while trying to gauge the new mage's strength, but she's pretty sure he MAY be stronger especially since she doesn't use her powers to kill! She decides to approach her supernatural neighbor for assistance...until she finds out exactly what he is.

Avran has a pretty cushy life, despite not being able to eat some interesting looking foods for the last 600 years. On the plus side, he's old enough that he doesn't need blood very often. When he scents a woman spying on him, he's surprised to find he's suddently ravenous. When she comes in to speak with him, his hunger drives him to try for a sip...and he's shocked when she zaps him! That's when he realizes she must be a mage, and one in need of help. As they work together to stop a power-hungry mage, Avran realizes he's finally found the woman he can love...and she's one his brethren will never allow him to turn.

Entertaining read. Liz has a couple of TSTL moments, but I guess she gets a free pass since she's a mage herself and isn't totally sure she's not powerful enough alone to handle it. She also irritated me a bit with her waffling, but hey, it's a big decision and past hurts do tend to guide our present decisions. All in all, I enjoyed the story and the smokin' sex. I'd give this a 2 star rating but I can't group it with other books that truly deserved 2 stars. So it earns 1 star.

The reason I think this was an ok book is simply because I had no care for the plot or the characters. I was indifferent to why they acted in a certain way and why the plot twisted one way or the other along the way. But compared to other books where I invested more interest in the book, this one rates lower.

Both Liz and Avran did not present an intricate personality. They provided no sensible logic, or if they did, it was flimsy for their actions, why they repelled each other one moment, only to fall in each other's arms the next. Side characters took it in strides whenever something supernatural happened, the bad guys didn't do much in terms of mayhem or actaully trying to accomplish their evil wishes and the council of good powers were as useless as a chair in a boat. And let's not forget that almost every interaction between Avran and Liz immediately ignited a sexual response in both of them. Because even when threatened, one can become aroused and dream of fucking their sexy partner, with no regard to whether they'll actually survive the peril.

There was potential in this book. I would have loved to delve in the secrets of being a Deep Magician or a vampire and what kind of new abilities their union would bring. Sadly, it was overshadowed by badly written sex scenes and not enough character development. I just wasn't pulled in the story.

Liz Carlson is a bookstore owner with a secret - she is also a Deep Magician & a practicing Pagan [witch?].

When a rogue & evil Deep Magician comes to town trying to increase his power, Liz must turn to a 600 y/o sexy vampire to help defeat the bad guy. Of course, Liz & the sexy vampire get into a very steamy relationship while fighting the rogue Magician.

Unique twist with a mysterious rumored "treasure". Solid story, drew me in immediately -- I noticed this was all story, no filler :-)

I really liked the character, Avram, who had some nicely dominant traits that made him pretty sexy. Unforunatley the writing was only mediocre so, although I finished the book, I would not ever read it a second time. I liked the story concept but it wasn't really much of a surprise how it went.
