another winner from Murray. though, i will have to say it's not his best book, i think. i considered giving this a four (for reasons i will discuss later) but decided that overall it's still amazing, and there are parts in here that blew me away.

when discussing the Holy Spirit and experiencing him, first (of course) we have to look to Scripture and see what it says. but i also think that personal experience is good here, as long as it only confirms the word of God. i also think that clarity is

Excellent book on the Holy Spirit and how we, the body of Christ on earth, really do need the power of His presence working in our lives. He literally falls upon us from heaven and fills us to overflowing as we worship and praise Jesus and glorify His name. I accepted Jesus and became a Christian in my younger years, but I did not ever have any kind of supernatural encounter with God at that time. This book affirms the fact that God is supernatural and His Spirit is all powerful and that only re ...more

“There are disciples of Christ who know little or nothing of this conscious indwelling of the Holy Spirit.” This sentence spoke to my heart because I was one of those who know nothing of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.

""We are never hampered more than when we rely on ourselves. This statement is counter-cultural. The way I have been taught since I was born is that I have a brain and I'm supposed to use it, and we are to do our best and let God take care of the rest. Here Murray tells us that

The best book I have ever read on the work and experience of the Holy Spirit. Easy to read and understand...fills you with hope and gives you the truth to stand on. I am glad I found it when browsing other titles by ths prolific author...and it is a gem of a book. I'm sure I will read this again before the year is out. Brilliant.

Second read. 13 July 2013

A great intro to Murray's writing, as well as a good brief intro to his work on the Spirit.

Andrew Murray lays out the truth of God

Andrew Murray, writing over 100 years ago, gives a detailed course on how to surrender to God and allow one's self to be filled and led by the Holy Spirit.

Another winner by Andrew Murray

Andrew Murray is becoming my favorite author outside of the Bible. In this book, he explains so well how our triune God (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) needs to be our all through faith. This results in God’s glory and our joy and fulfillment.

Excellent work, but easy to misinterpret today

One thing that the 21st century reader of this book must keep in mind is that Murray wrote *before* the Azusa Street Revival that turned the term "Pentecostal" into its modern thought of chaos. When Murray writes about the experience of all of the Spirit, the second blessing, and other concepts that have become trigger words to those who have been burned by the Charismatic movement, I had to slow down and remind myself that the revulsion I now feel w

I started this book 3 years ago, not picking it up again until only recently. My quick 123 on the book. 1. We need to have a deep personal relationship with God. 2. There are 2 enemies to that hinder us; the world without and the self within, the later is more dangerous. 3. A complete, daily surrendering to Him allows us to walk in the Spirit. 4. He will maintain everything in us...we have nothing in ourselves to make ourselves capable to be who He wants us to be.

A couple of interesting quotes.

This book is written in middle english. So sometimes the wording is really hard to follow but it is a great book to read with a lot of spiritual knowledge. I would recommend this book being read in a group to help you with the wording and to discuss it. I would not have read it on my own, can be boring.

This guy is great. He tells it like it is, and doesn't mince his words. This book is about how and why we should be experiencing the Holy Spirit in our lives. It is quite practical, but also inspirational. Only a short book, would highly recommend.

becoming a big Andrew Murray fan, really like the depth of his thinking and writing, and this one really inspired me to consistently ask God to fill me anew with His Holy Spirit.

I'm taking this book nice and slow and taking notes. So much to learn and be applied from this book.

We need God to do this work in us

This was one of the best books I've read on how to be filled with the holy spirit. It is a must read for everyone who wants to be used by God.

“It is not as if we had to seek to have more of the Spirit: we have Him in the fulness of the gift as it is. It is rather the Holy Spirit who must have more of us. As we yield ourselves entirely to Him He will entirely fill us. It is from WITHIN that the blessing must come: the fountain of living water is already there; the fountain has only to be open and every obstruction cleared and the water shall stream forth. It must spring from WITHIN.” 0 likes
