Fringe Benefits

ALL WORK AND NO PLAY?

After being fired from her last job because a creepy co-worker hit on her and she hit back, Jane Stafford has decided enough is enough. To keep men at bay, she dons a fake wedding band in the hopes of being judged on her brains and not her beauty. Then Jane meets her new boss and she's not sure her foolproof plan was so smart after all. Spencer Tate's a hot one, and suddenly she's more than ready to shed the wedding ring...and her clothes!

Spencer's not surprised to hear what happened to Jane at her last job. She's a gorgeous woman, and he's more than a little tempted himself. Fortunately, that wedding ring she wears reminds him every day -- and night -- that she's off-limits. But when he learns the truth about Jane's marriage, Spencer decides it's time to bring some pleasure to their working relationship!

Pretty good, but not the best. Jane is afraid of intimacy and commitment and does not follow her feelings of attraction.

STORY BRIEF:
Jane is a top computer systems sales person. A creepy co-worker hit on her, so she punched him. She was fired because her boss believed the creep’s lies rather than the truth. She decides to wear a fake wedding band to keep men at bay. From day one at her new job, she is attracted to her new boss Spencer. And he feels the same. He is frustrated that she is married, so he wants to meet her husband. Jane’s best friend Alicia offers her own husband Chuck to pretend to be Jane’s husband.

REVIEWER’S OPINION:
The story is mostly Jane not following her feelings. She is falling for Spencer, but her actions prevent anything from happening. She’s concerned about sexual harassment and doesn’t want a reputation of sleeping with the boss. She chooses career over love. Spencer is patient and active in his attempts to have a relationship. It’s not the best plot, but ok for a romance novel. The book is on the short side, as are other Nancy Warren books.

Watched the Steve Jobs movie at Karen Kings last Wednesday. The main characters in this book would fit well in that environment.
Page 23. She'd hardly recognized him when he'd shown up for the presentation in a perfectly pressed gray suit, burgundy silk tie, crisp white shirt and shiny black shoes. He'd even had his hair cut. Now that he was relaxing, he was starting to rumple.

It was okay!
I liked the plot but at some point I just wanted her to said the truth and end it all. First chapters were really funny!
