Aren’t you the least bit curious about the title of this novel, JUMP CUT? From the beginning, when news of this latest Ellie Foreman, the first in the series for almost ten years, started appearing on Libby Fischer Hellmann’s blog, I was curious. Jump cut is a term used in film editing. It’s a cut made when editing a film that uses two sequential shots of the same subject that vary only slightly. The cut gives the effect of jumping forward in time. One can edit together two separate shots to cr ...more

Libby Fischer Hellman has never disappointed me and can certainly write suspense!
Ellie Foreman is back after 10 years as a video producer. This story begins with a project video for Delcroft Aviation. Delcroft does many civilian and military contracts.
She's suddenly fired and that fires up her curiosity. She keeps digging and keeps getting in deeper and deeper.
Libby weaves a suspenseful page turner with plenty of twists and turns to keep you

Ellie Foreman is a Chicago video producer, having been a filmmaker for over 25 years. Not a profession which would seem to be dangerous, except that it becomes very much so in this instance.

From the publisher: Hired to produce a candy-floss profile of Chicago-based aviation giant Delcroft, Ellie is dismayed when company VIP Charlotte Hollander trashes the production and cancels the project. Ellie believes Hollander was spooked by shots of a specific man in the video footage. . . [Ellie] is soon

This novel did not cut it for me
Drones, espionage, double agents, Ethnic minority groups, murder and mayhem - this novel has it all. The only problem is that the plot does not ring true and the main character is not believable. I really had to force myself to finish reading this book.

Research tells me that this is the fifth in the Ellie Foreman mystery series and that the series has won awards and I have no doubt that many readers will enjoy these novels but this did not work for me. It is a dec

I was given this ARC in exchange for an honest review, and this author has never disappointed me as this book is AWESOME! I can't imagine how she'll top this one, but I know she will! Ellie Foreman had snagged a job to make a video of the massive Delcroft Corporation to show its softer side. Ellie is based in Chicago as a freelance video producer and she is excited about the chance to show Delcroft's softer side. Delcroft has its hands in the military hardware, drones and planes. It even has the ...more

Ellie Foreman is a video producer in Chicago. She’s good at her job. No one was more shocked than she when her client Charlotte Hollander, Delcroft VP, said her newest promotional video for Delcroft was amateurish and undignified. Charlotte fired her on the spot. Ellie had made notes of what was on the video when Charlotte seemed to become uncomfortable with it. When she later played the video back for herself, she realized those shots included Gregory Parks who’d introduced himself to Ellie as ...more

I have to apologize to Libby again. I'm in a group she started that gets dibs on her new stuff so we can write and post reviews as soon as the book or novella or whatever comes out.

So, back in January or February I downloaded a copy of Jump Cut, the new Ellie Foreman novel due out around the first of March, and started to read it with the best intentions of meeting my deadline.

Didn't happen.

So, here, finally, is my review of Jump Cut, and I swear, Libby, I'll try to do better. Honest.

“This looks like something my twelve-year-old son could have thrown together,” said the company executive. “It’s a pastiche of amateur photography, editing, and uninspired—in fact, trite—narration. It’s—it’s—“she waved her hands in the air, searching for the right words-- “undignified. If we air this, even on our website, we’ll be a laughingstock. And I guarantee we’ll take a financial hit.”

It wasn’t exactly the reaction Ellie Forman was hoping for when her clients viewed the video she’d written

Why did Delcroft VP Charlotte Hollander reject the promotional video that Ellie and her company produced? The work was well done. Ellie Foreman wants answers. She doesn't realize what that information will cost her and those she loves. Ellie is in over her head and getting in deeper. Delcroft Corporation is ruthless. They will destroy anyone who gets in their way. What can Ellie do to survive? This story is so realistic that I felt I was reading today's headlines. Libby Fischer Hellmann has cra ...more

I've read all 4 of the previous Ellie Foreman novels, so I was quite eager for this 5th installment, which I purchased on pre-order in exchange for an honest review.

For newbies, Ellie is a video producer who doesn't like unanswered questions and always seems to get herself in the middle of intrigue. And yet, she's very relatable, like a next-door neighbor with a hunky boyfriend and a twenty-something daughter.

This time, Ellie's convinced her phone is bugged and she's being followed, but who is
Jump Cut is the 5th book in the Ellie Foreman Mystery Series by Libby Fischer Hellman. This is the first book that I’ve read in this series, but I need to see which earlier books in this series are still in publication and start at the beginning. "Jump Cut" by Libby Fischer Hellmann

Another great novel by Hellman. It has all the ingredients of a very entertaining read: intrigue, espionage, murder, mystery and a touch of humor.

You wouldn’t think that shooting and producing a promotional video for an aviation company could be that interesting. And you’d be right. Well, perhaps not the details of the production, but most certainly the fallout from being fired is. Ellie Foreman put forth what she thought was great work, but apparently big-wig

Keeping in the style of her two previous books I have read , Easy Innocence and The Incidental Spy, by Ms. Hellman, Jump Cut is an excellent read. I was sent this book in exchange for an honest review.
A critic from the Chicago Sun-Times states, “Not only has Hellman created a compelling group of believable characters, but the mystery she places them in is likewise plausible and engrossing.”

Ellie Forman returns after ten years. Her daughter Rachel is grown, and she's been building her career making documentaries and videos--the latest client is major defense contractor Delcroft. Ellie Foreman made a promotional video for a large corporation whose biggest client is the US Government. The lady in charge goes ballistic when she notices a particular man in several of the frames and fires Ellie. Everyone tells Ellie to forget it, to lick her wounded pride and go to the next job. But does she? Noooo. She contacts the man and he agrees to meet her BUT he's killed (they say committed suicide) at the train station where they are to meet. Libby Fischer Hellmann's characters can often be found at a favorite restaurant or local watering hole, enjoying some kind of comfort food or a favorite adult beverage. So it is with her fiction. You can be confident that it's well researched, with a strong topical element, and well paced -- clean and crisp. The characters are warm and human, and she always makes good use of her setting in Chicago and environs.

This is my first Ellie Forman book that I have read. I immediately was drawn in to this page turner, although as it progressed I felt it moved a little too fast and I lost sight of the characters. Before reading Jump Cut I hadn’t read any others from the Ellie Foreman series, but have read Nobody’s Child, which is the fifth in her Georgia Davis series. So in my opinion doesn’t matter whether you’ve read others in the series- I still got what was happening, the characters were still developed enough for me to get them and what they’re like and the story, although perhaps making reference to previous books in the series, was self-contained enough to ensure I

The fifth book in the Ellie Forman series is chock full of adventure and intrigue. Corporate espionage masks an even more sinister plot and Ellie must rush to discover the truth.

"Jump Cut," the latest installment in Libby Fischer Hellmann's "Ellie Foreman Mystery Series," returns after a 10 year hiatus and is a non-stop thrill ride from beginning to end. In Jump Cut, Chicago-based thriller author Hellmann brings her outspoken heroine Ellie Foreman back for another exciting adventure after a 10-year hiatus. In the new book, video producer Foreman and her team have been hired to produce a series of puff pieces about ginormous Delcroft Aviation.

Although Jump Cut is the first addition to the series in almost ten years, it is Libby Hellmann’s fifth Ellie Foreman book. Ellie may be a decade older now than readers remember her, but the Chicago-based video producer is as independent and tough as she ever was.
