Eugenie Fernandes is a children’s author-illustrators. She has published more than ninety books. Her paintings for illustrations have been used by UNICEF to create cards and puzzles, and by One Hen to create educational websites. Some of paintings from are on display at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African Art.

How odd, from one book to the next the art completely changed and became cute instead of mildly disturbing, even though it's the same kind of clay art.

Oh. Apparently the author's sister or cousin or daughter...or something, illustrated the book instead of the author herself. I'm glad of this. Whoever Kim Fernandes is, I think she is more talented at the manipulation of modeling clay into images. The art was cute, the pig was roly-poly, happy, and healthy instead of being a leering death's head that made me remember every whole roasted pig I ever saw....and I saw a lot of them. The pig in this book is a character, and a cute one at that. Huzzah.

Anyway. This is another cute little poem about animals, this time we follow mouse from his teapot house as he adventures across the farm and meets a bunch of animals and learns their onomatopoeia. Kids would like it. You could have a never ending game of 'I spy' using this book, they even have things like grain, bridles, and yokes for you to find and point out. I was perhaps most impressed by the garden that had identifiably plants like carrots, cabbage, onions and swiss chard. I think to represent something like that out of clay takes serious talent. I couldn't do it.

I just really love these Little Mouse books. The art, the text, it's just all there. My daughter loves looking at the pictures to find the hidden objects or little pieces that are repeated on each page. (The ladybug in this one.)

The illustrations look like they are sculpted out of clay, very neat. Teaches animal sounds & has a cute night-night ending. Carmen discovered that there is a lady bug to find in each scene.

farms, rhyming - I'd have given this 3 stars but it's a bit on the small side and some of the rhymes are forced. A hidden ladybug appears on each page.
