An explanation of grief
I choose this book as a way of understanding myself and my relationship to the virgin Mary. what I got was a fascinating history of grief and our symbiotic relationship to it. The chants. beautifully written, felt to me like a journey through sorrow. And there were times when I got a little confused as to who they were talking about. The brief history of Osiris, Isis, and Horus was fascinating. However I was a little disappointed that there weren't more information on Isis. Reading her and her sister 's lament was moving. Although I would have liked to have know more about her input of how she became the goddess without whom, no Pharaohs could sit on the throne of Egypt.

A beautiful book of prayer and worship that reminds one of the Song of Songs of the Christian Bible. The burden of Isis will appeal to all who love ancient literature or to those of the Pagan Religions. Truly a blessing to read or to listen to while relaxing.

This is a bit unfair, I suppose, but the only reason I can't give this 5 stars is due to the translators introduction. Long and also touched with his own opinion once and again, it became a bit frustrating waiting to get to the actual book. He repeats stories I hope and would presume most people reading a book of this sort more than likely would know of; such as, the gods and goddesses spoken of in the chants to follow. The translations of the ancient Egyptian chants themselves, however, were extremely well done and organized. It will be a great reference book in the future as well as a book that holds a wealth of knowledge. All in all, it is absolutely worth purchasing.
