Why, oh why, is it that those who write the most exquisitely and enticingly about food are often the most insufferable prose stylists? There is no finer example of this unfortunate phenomenon than this supremely twee, supremely irritating (and exquisite, and enticing) book, awash as it is with crass, trite asides and baby talk. Don't get me started on the baby talk.

Use your big girl words, Marlena!

Also, rest in peace.
