Great description of the Catskill region even todsy
Many of the places mentioned in this 1918 book are still there and accessible. Some of the mountain trails still have access points. Highways have replaced the railroads and ski resorts have replaced farm houses for overnights.
The kindle version lacks many of the photos and maps that are in the hard cover versions.

Excellent travelogue about a trip around the Catskills area over 100 years ago. Great read if you are interested in the Catskills, the areas history or its nature.

Such a fun read for me. And the book was old and some of the pages had never been cut! I first read some of it online when I did a search for something - birds in the Catskills in the winter maybe, was happy to find it in the libary and just up my alley - two guys tramping around the Catskills, one a teacher on leave because of a scarlet fever? epidemic and the boy can't go home for a while for the same reason... they meet up again and do a short hike just before the boy goes off to WWI.

Wonderful writing and a keen sense of humor throughout. Longstreth captured all the lovely subtleties of East Coast hiking, and then some, taking you along with him on his romp through woods and villages alike. A joyful love story dedicated to the Catskills, both its mountains and its inhabitants. Highly recommended!

Great book, so much local history in my home town. Interesting chapter about John Burroughs, alive at that time.

Loved this book. As an avid hiker of the Catskills, I loved reading the descriptions of the same mountains a century ago. While they have not changed much, our culture has greatly.
