Dip cannot say BOW WOW like a normal puppy so Nibbles the rabbit is taking him to find Mr Sloppy-Knickers the best wizard of all who will help him - that is as long as King Blackbottom the savage does not eat them for dinner with peanut butter... And there's another story called THE TERRIBLE JELLY MONSTER which grew and grew so even the greedy wicked king could not eat it all!
Terence Alan Patrick Seán Milligan, known as Spike, was a comedian, writer and musician. He was of Irish descent, but spent most of his childhood in India and lived most of his later life in England, moving to Australia after retirement. He is famous for his work in The Goon Show, children's poetry and a series of comical autobiographical novels about his experiences serving in the British Army in WWII. Spike Milligan suffered from bipolar disorder, which led to depression and frequent breakdowns, but he will be remembered as a comic genius. His tombstone reads 'I told you I was ill' in Gaelic.
I read this book constantly when I was younger after my Dad bought and read it to me. It started my love for Spike Milligan and his wonderful way with words. Dip is not like the other dogs and so he goes on a journey to a magic castle to help change himself. However, he ends up learning that he's great just the way he is. I would share this message with children and discuss our differences, and how they make us unique and special. A class would enjoy these two humorous tales and we could look at the illustrations (drawn by Milligan's daughter) and how they add to the book.
One of the most memorable books of my childhood. “Out came three fatty-poo penguins. One with a trumpet, one with a drum, and one with a pancake stuck to his bum!” 🤣🤣
