As a child, Cathy Marie Hake had an imaginary playmate. Now "grown up," she indulges in a host of imaginary friends as she writes. She teasingly says she decided if those voices in her head were talking, she might as well write down what they said and make a living by doing it. She met her sweetheart in the High School department at church and married him after finishing nursing school. They live in Southern California and have two children and two dogs (one of them even moos - one of the dogs that is, not the kids). Faith in God, a loving family, and a wacky sense of the ridiculous keep her going.
Known for surfing across the kitchen on a dropped dill pickle slice, waterskiing on sea anemone spit, and using Right Guard® as hair spray; she considers herself living proof that God does, indeed, possess a healthy sense of humor.
Cathy loves classical music, romantic getways with her husband, and Diet Pepsi Free®. "I need chocolate to survive, love my friends, and enjoy a deep personal relationship with the Lord. Although an extrovert, I'm very conservative on a personal level."
In her writing, Cathy attempts to capture a unique glimpse of life and how a man and woman can overcome obstacles when motivated by love. In her inspirational pieces she enjoys the freedom of showing how Christ can enrich a loving couple's relationship.
The review below, which is all of two lines, is from my 2014 Amazon review on my husband's account.
I really enjoyed this book a lot! Cathy Marie Hake is my favorite Christian romance author, and she delivers again and again!
(Right now, Elizabeth Camden officially has the title of my favorite Christian romance author. I occasionally wonder what Cathy Marie Hake is up to, but I can never find anything other than her book list on Amazon. If anyone has a clue or can steer me in a direction that might enlighten me, please do! Her books were responsible for jump-starting my love of Christian historical romance.)
Rose loves people. She loves cooking for them, teaching them, helping them, tending to them... she loves them more than herself in a way that has them shaking their heads. This is because Rose is a disaster - her house is dusty and unkempt, her hair is always falling out of her bun, she wears threadbare clothing and always forgets a hat... she doesn't care a whit about any of that. She'd rather laugh with friends, hold a dear elderly person's hand, or find a way to give to others.
When Garret moves to town and takes over the general store, he's the new most eligible bachelor in town. It's good for business: mamas bringing their daughters in to parade under his nose, under the guise of needing something from the store. But he's promised himself he'd make a success of the new business before thinking about matrimony.
A sweet story about a wealthy young woman named Rose who loses both parents and decides rid herself of the shackles and constaints her wealth holds on her life. Rose travels and visits many places but ultimately ends up in Buttonhole, West Virginia where she starts a new life. She falls in love with the town and it's residents and makes it her permanent home. While most of the town folk think she's a bit excentric, they all have grown to care for her because she is the first to show up when someone is in need. Into this comes a young man who purchases the local emporium to make his living. The interactions between the this young man and Rose are usually odd, sweet or funny. It's a quick read but well worth it especially for those who enjoy Christian fiction.
Story of secret charity and learning to share your life.
Great reading, easy follow. Another name could of been Secret Giver. Small town gets a new owner of the goods store. Much improved he makes friends easily. As a single man he is approach ed by many with daughter's. He becomes attracted to a very simple spinster type woman. As he gets to know her he learns she has many she helps in town. They share food and prayer. Odd deliveries arrive from a Secret Giver to the store. He begins to investigate and learns much more about Rose and others in town.
Fun, clean, and romantic. A very easy read. Rose lives ins a small town, and is a proclaimed spinster. When Garret Diamond moves into the community, and find out her tightly held secret, she is terrified. I liked this book, but it was very mild. Maybe I like more crazy, and unrealistic stuff? I don't know. This just seemed really sedate. Very realistic, life like situations. Very little drama.
There are many ways that God's love and guidance is shown in this story. The keeping of the morning glories on the broken down fence, accepting every one as they are regardless of how God has made them, and the way Rose shares her blessings with the community.
This was very cute! Both Rose and Garrett are affable and endearing. I love that this book is literally about the joy of helping others. The religious aspect was much milder in this than in the previous one, but that didn't really bug me.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I know it's probably not going to be for everyone especially with redundant theme we already know from pretty much every romantic .
