First off I have to mention how beautiful the cover of this book is and it will look even more beautiful on my shelf when it comes out :)

Neiva is upset with her parents for leaving her with her grandma so they can go off to Europe. She is supposed to stay for her entire senior year and she's sad at leaving her friends and being stuck on an island. She loves her grams, but not to stay for school.

They are on the island of Spirit which is seventy-miles off the

Blonde Eskimo. first off I wanna say I’m in love with the cover and suits the book so well!

Im loving Fantasy at the moment and Blonde Eskimo is very much that. I haven’t come across a YA book before that has the theme of Eskimo in it, so it was interesting starting something that I had no idea what to expect.

The story is set on an interesting island called Spirit, I love that name for an island (btw) and Nieva moves there to live with her grandmother and learn about the secrets of Spirit, but

This novel is inspired by kindred spirits from the past and present.

I wanted to share my love for my Eskimo heritage and my love for fantasy with the world. I named the book after my grandmother, who was given the name Blonde Eskimo from the Eskimo elders. This book is dedicated to her.

I can't wait to finish writing the next adventure and sequel to Blonde Eskimo. ;)

Blonde Eskimo was a pretty good book and I enjoyed the story. I thought it was so cool learning about Eskimos, their heritage, legends, and traditions. I liked Neiva, but at times she was hard to connect to. She had some amazing friends in the book and I wish I could have connected better with them too. There is also a guy named Darius that I pretty much fell in love with. It was more about Neiva though, so you don’t get a whole lot of the other characters. Neiva and her frien

Fantasy and Eskimos!

17 year old Neiva is unhappy about having to stay with her grandmother in the tiny island, Spirit, Alaska, while her parents tour around Europe. She thinks Spirit is boring and a little bit creepy. It doesn’t help that she is the only blonde Eskimo on the entire island. Neiva decides that she will uncover the secrets of Spirit during her stay, but gets a little bit more than she bargained for.

Blonde Eskimo is packed full of adventure and rich in Eskimo customs and mythology.

I had an ARC and loved it. The characters were very real. I laughed a lot. The references from Through the Looking Glass and The Secret Garden were pretty cool. I am an older person but would recommend it for any ages. There is a mystic feel as well as coming of age. The Eskimo lore and customs are really intriguing. I would love to visit Spirit Island myself. Looking forward to another book about this island and it's unusual inhabitants.

For me, this was a problematic read, and I struggled to get beyond the first chapter.

Part of my issue with this story is how long it takes to care about the protagonist, Neiva. She should, by all rights, be sympathetic- her parents had promised her a trip to Europe, then left her with her grandmother to take the trip alone without explanation. She’s leaving her friends, and her school, to spend her final year on an island no-one believes exists. And yet, there’s not enough to her for me to be ab

I won this book in a Giveaway hosted by Kristen Hunt. I've really started to connect with her over the past months and she is such a great person! I would recommend this book if you are interested in Alaska, Eskimos, and heritage.

I enjoyed Blonde Eskimo and thought the elements of the story were intriguing. I liked that she used her own background and family ancestry to fuel the story, which made it even cooler. Neiva seemed very childish and I didn't quite connect with her th

There wasn’t anything wrong with this book, it just wasn’t for me. I found it quite confusing, and I just lost interest. I felt quite sorry for Neiva at points (view spoiler) but overall I think this was just a case of wrong person, wrong book.

I have to say, I love the cover. Usually, I am not a big fan of covers with people on it, but this cover is gorgeous. I also like the Raven, which is connected with the story, and our protagonist. I don't based my rating on the cover, since I don't believe the cover is a reflection of the author.

Blonde Eskimo was such a pleasant surprise, at the absolute best time. I've been in a serious reading slump lately and this was the perfect book to pull me out of it! I was initially drawn to the gorgeous cover, and the blurb only added to my intrigue. Luckily the inside was just as magically delicious as the outside!

I picked this book because it sounded interesting and I love fantasy. Plus, look at that gorgeous cover. I can’t wait to own a hard copy. It will look fantastic on my bookshelf.

I have to say I loved this book. It was an easy read and fast paced. I laughed, I stressed and I smiled throughout the entire book. The characters were wonderful and very entertaining (Especially, Nate). Reading this book brought out my inner 17 year-old-girl and made me think about hig

Blonde Eskimo is rich in knowledge about Eskimo's and their heritage.
That being said I was like Neiva. It did my head in at times. I had to re-read some things just to get what her friends were telling her.

Neiva went to live with her Grandmother so she could learn about the secrets of Spirits, Alaska. Little did she know she was part of the secret. She went every summer so she knew some of the natives.

I did kind of have a hard time getting into the book. It picked up once Neiva was learning abo

What an amazing read! I had an ARC of this book and I would highly recommend it to readers of any age. The story was captivating and there was something friendly and relate-able about each of the characters. I definitely couldn't wait to see how the story would end and it held my interest until the final page, and even then left me wanting more. My favorite aspect of this story was all of the Eskimo legend and lore that was woven throughout. I hope there will be another book from this author in ...more
The premise of a Viking and Eskimo mashup and Alaska as the setting got me from the start.

I like how the vibe of magic and local folklore is in the air throughout.

Revealed secrets and family history kept me engaged.

I have to quote Neiva’s, our protagonist, a thought that I felt with this book.

She found it both fascinating and horrifying at the same time. — Yes, I found this book both fascinating and horrifying too! I keep on imagining myself on Neiva’s place during the first few chapters of Blonde Eskimo, even I, will be scared of what is happening on myself if it something like that happened to me. Who wouldn’t scared seeing a trace of their grand

Maybe I'm too old for this one or maybe I've just read too many YA fantasy books recently but this book just didn't really work for me.

It starts off quite well in a way quite similar to Twilight with main character Neiva packed off by her parents to Spirit Island, Alaska to stay with her Grandmother and finish her final year at school while her parents go travelling.

There are hints from the very beginning that there is something very mysterious about the Island and it seems like everyone is keep

I bought this book for my daughter and she fell in love with this story. She wouldn’t stop bugging me about this book until I read it. I have to say I’m glad she did.

I normally don’t write long reviews but for this book I will. I loved this story and how easy it was to read. The author’s description was vivid and beautiful. I loved the characters and how they interacted with each other. Some reviewers have said the characters were immature but I disagree. This story is about growing up and the

Kristen Hunt is from Alaska, but now lives in Arizona, because she believes anything below 64 degrees is freezing. Her new novel, Blonde Eskimo, is a young adult novel set in Alaska.

Neiva Ellis would much rather have toured Europe with her parents. Instead, she is sent to stay with her grandmother in Spirit, Alaska. She’s always known there was something special about Spirit, but now that’s living there, she realizes everyone in the town, including her grandmother, is keeping something from her.

I had an ARC of the book, The Blonde Eskimo. The book is a thrilling fantasy that takes place on Spirit Island which is off the coast of Nome, Alaska. This action-packed book involves Eskimo legends, folklore, and mythology that trace the experiences of a 17 year old girl, Nievia, who was forced to live with her grandmother during her senior year of high school. She seeks to learn the hidden secrets of the island with her friends. On her 17th birthday Nievia experiences the Eskimo rite of passag ...more

I was given an ARC copy of the book and truly enjoyed it. I loved how the author was able to bring the characters to life and especially loved Nate with his humorous antics. Not only does Spirit Alaska have a secret, but so does many of Neiva's friends. I had to remind myself that this was a fantasy book as Spirit Island and the people who live there seemed so real. The Author was able to take a few Alaskan Eskimo Folklore and weave a wonderful fantasy from them. Even though it is a YA, I think ...more

Neiva is staying with her grandmother for her senior year at Spirit Alaska. She was approaching her 17th birthday, which was celebrating a special rite of passage on Spirit. She also had a crush on her friend Nate, who had changed drastically since she saw him last, until she saw the mysterious Darius.
A truly EPIC story. I really enjoyed going on Neiva's journey with her. She proved her loyalty and honor in coming above many obstacles. It was a great overall story with a great plot and characte

A magical read full of fantasy and legends- I was blown away at how different and fabulous this book was. This is a perfect read for mild graders and teens but I believe adults will love this tale as well. The author captured my attention from the start. Whispering Stories
Whilst her parents are travelling to Europe, Neiva Ellis is having to stay with her Grandmother, who lives on a small island off the coast of Alaska, called Spirit.

The island isn’t one that you would find on any map though, as ‘Spirit’ is protected from the world and hidden away – unbeknown to Neiva when she first arrives.

It is a mystical place shrouded in secrecy and watched over by guardians. On her seventeenth birthday, Neiva starts to realise that something is different about the place, and
