Gordon Rupert Dickson was an American science fiction author. He was born in Canada, then moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota as a teenager. He is probably most famous for his Childe Cycle and the Dragon Knight series. He won three Hugo awards and one Nebula award.
Quick read. Very quick. Actually have read this one, in parts of other books. The only thing original is the intro by Dickson and the closing by Sandra Miesel. I hate it when that happens. The stories are good, though. I don't see why this is counted as #8 when it is just a recounting of previous work in the series.
Dickson seems to have been a better craftsman of shorter works than of novels, as this collection of associated Childe Cycle tales demonstrates. Most exquisite is the novelette "Amanda Morgan," but even the earlier "Warrior" or "Brothers" are well-constructed and well-crafted stories.
