About the author

Tim White (1952-2020) was a British painter, best known for his science fiction and fantasy book covers, record covers and magazine illustrations. He also designed jewellery to complement some of his paintings.

White studied at the Medway College of Art between 1968 and 1972. Following this, he spent two years working for various advertising studios, until he received his first book cover commission in 1974, for Arthur C Clarke's The Other Side of the Sky. He later provided covers for authors including Robert A. Heinlein, Frank Herbert, August Derleth, H. P. Lovecraft, Piers Anthony and Bruce Sterling.

Nothing quite like a quick read to start the week with - and this delivered today was just the ticket.

It is a short 79 page book celebrating some of Tim Whites more obscure works. I will admit that I stumbled across this title while reading up about Mr White who sadly passed away quite recently. I have always loved it work - a combination of techniques and styles ever since I first saw his work in a Norfolk book store many years ago.

He was one of many artists who I avidly followed through the various Paper Tiger publications. Sadly this is not one from their catalogue however it was good to see a nod to one of their titles in these pages.

This is an intriguing multinational edition with the text printed in 4 languages for each entry. Some of the pieces have been reproduced elsewhere but many are new to me - so as farewell piece to Mr White I can think of none greater/

Tim White gehört für mich seit längerem zu den Favoriten für wunderschöne Buchcover, aus diesem Grund habe ich mich auch sehr gefreut, dass ich diesen wunderschönen Bildband auch auf einem Buchbasar gefunden und mir gleich geschnappt habe.
Darin findet man viele bekannten Cover von SF- und Fantasy-Werken, die auch in Deutschland veröffentlicht wurden.
Es würde nichts bringen, sie hier alle wiederzugeben, aber besonders ein Foundation-Cover, oder die Amber-Cover sind sehr eindrucksvoll...

Some very lovely paintings (gets pretty gruesome at the end), somewhat ruined by the descriptions filled with spelling, grammatical, and layout errors
