Have you ever wondered what Jesus would say to you if He were sitting right beside you? Would He say He loves you? Would He offer advice on day to day situations?

“Jesus Today: Devotions for Kids” by Sarah Young, is a devotional for children. Each devotion is based on Scripture and is written as though Jesus is speaking directly to you. The devotional reminds us that He is in control and that amazing things await everyone who puts their faith and hope in Him.

The book is aimed at children ages 6 through 10. I feel that 6 may be a little young. I read through several of the devotions with my daughter, but they just didn’t hold her attention. She found them hard to follow and I found myself changing the word “Me” to “Jesus”.

I really like how each devotion ends with multiple scripture verses. It helps your child explore the entire Bible, Old and New Testaments in bite size pieces that are easier for them to comprehend. By choosing related scriptures from various parts of the Bible, it shows your little one how God’s promises are consistent from beginning of the Bible until the end.

The back of the book contains a “Scripture Index”. If you are looking for a specific scripture you can check here to see if it’s in the devotional. I personally would have loved to see an additional “Index by Topic”. I think this would make it easier for younger children to find devotionals, when they need them most.

The book is very consistent in it’s layout. Each devotional follows the same pattern, Number, Title, Devotion and Scripture. The font is easy to read and each devotion only takes a few minutes to read. There is also a ribbon bookmark to help keep track of where you are.

“Jesus Today: Devotions for Kids” is a book that you could read several times over and find something new each time. It’s a great way to end the day with your child, talking about the promises that are laid out in the Bible for each and every one of us.

There is just something so sweet and special about kid's products - especially kid's products that help guide your children in their walk with the Savior. Our awesome friends at Tommy Nelson (a division of Thomas Nelson) has a devotional just for kids.

I have recently seen a plethora of children's Bible study and/or devotional books and many are really cute (sometimes too cute). But while we want the materials used to teach and encourage children toward their walk with God, we shouldn't want them so cute as to lighten the reality of the awesome power and love of God. We need to strike a happy balance.

In this edition of Sarah Young's Jesus Today®: Devotions for Kids, this well bound, small hardcover book has a cute and appealing cover. Inside, though, it is all serious business. This book is print only on the inside (aside from border color and little bird). The text is written in a down-to-earth yet serious tone that will get across to the child God's supreme love and power but it is in terms and phraseology that a child can grasp.

Each two-page devotion has one page of devotional text and one page of Scripture quotes. The print is sized to make the early reader comfortable. While the book is directed for the age 6-10 child, I see the younger children will possibly need assistance reading (good parent to child time). However, I believe, too, that this will appeal on upward to the 12-13 year old as well.

"We know we can ALWAYS trust God because He ALWAYS does what He says; and if He promises, the promise is kept!"

I like that there is a Scripture Index in the back of the book which is broken down by books of the Bible. I would prefer that the author had used the King James Version, but the conservative Christian author has chosen a different version to utilize. Parents can choose this opportunity to show a comparison to their child, if they so wish.

DISCLOSURE: I received a complimentary copy to facilitate this review. Opinions are my own. I was not compensated to review the book.

In Jesus Today Devotions for Kids, Sarah Young has written a brand new devotional geared towards teaching children about the principles of God’s Word. The devotional book contains 150 devotionals. It covered important topics such as hope, trust, choosing joy, peace, praying, and much more. Each day encompasses a story of encouragement found in scripture as well as three Bible verses.

The book begins with the topic of, “My Kind of Hope”. This day discusses putting our hope in Christ and expecting Him to keep His promises that are found in His written Word. God has amazing plans for our children and it’s critical we remind them of this when they are disappointed or afraid. Sarah Young shared the core message of Jesus dying on the cross for our sins and how much love He has for us. You can put our hope and trust into a loving Creator.

I would recommend this awesome book to every single young child. I have read Jesus Calling by Sarah Young and I loved reading that devotional book. I loved how she writes each day like it is God talking to readers. I was glad when she decided to write a devotional book for children where kids can begin to learn about God’s love and forgiveness. I liked how it included key topics and encouragement in order to assist believers in their walk with Christ. The book had a very nice bright blue color and it was very appealing to young children. I liked how it also had a nice ribbon bookmark in it where it would be easier for readers to hold their spot. If you’re looking for a brand new devotional for your children, then get this book!

If your looking for a great little devotional for you children Jesus Today by Sarah Young just might be it. First of all the cover is cute but it's really what's inside that makes this a great little devotional. It's a book that will share the love that Jesus has for the user and all of us! It also shares with users about the hope that Jesus offers to them. Each devotion is written just as if God is talking directly to the reader. There are 150 devotions included and the author provides several scriptures to go along with each one. I think that the devotions are very relevant to the age range that this book is for, and honestly as I read them I found hope within the pages myself. One that really spoke to me was Live In My Light which talks about the world getting darker but how God's glory continues to shine brighter! Hope is something we all need, and this little book provides not only hope but shares that God loves all of us and what child, or adult for that matter doesn't need to hear that! Overall I really think this is a beautiful book, it is very sturdy, so that it can withstand daily use. The presentation page makes it perfect for gift giving. What a wonderful way to encourage youngsters to share a bit of quiet time with Jesus daily while using this book.

Organization. There are two pages for each of 150 days; a devotional, written in first person as if it is Jesus speaking, followed by three scripture references. The days are not dated, so you can pick up the book and start at any time of the year - a big plus for me! There is a scripture index at the back, so this could be used as a reference book while reading through the Bible, as well as a daily devotional.

Appearance. This is a durable hardback with bold color. The graphic layout is fun, even cute, but gender neutral. A nice, attractive book that should stand the wear of being picked up and read 150 days in a row.

Bible Verses. One of my favorite parts; it gives Biblical context to the devotion and can be used for further study if desired. Scriptures are taken from the International Children's Bible, so they can be easily understood.

Devotions. In fairly simple language, though the concepts might be complex for a 6yo, these devotions personalize Jesus for a child.

Overall, a nice addition to encourage and enhance your child's daily encounters with God!

If you and your kids love Jesus Calling, then Jesus Today: Devotions for Kids is a no-brainer. The familiar layout and premise will pick up where Jesus Calling left off. It will continue to keep your kids engaged and encouraged as they listen for the voice of Jesus.

If you’re not familiar with Jesus Calling, this is still a fantastic devotional for your children! My son and I happily recommend Jesus Today for anyone looking for a new kids’ devotional. Each reading is truly encouraging and helps kids understand the scriptures they’ve likely read before in a whole new light. It’s the perfect devotional to help children develop a quiet time routine and stick with it!
