Overall Opinion: This touched me emotionally, but I was really disappointed at the ending. I didn't like the way the issues were resolved. I felt like it was all way too easy, and I didn't get nearly enough closure. I also felt like we were just skimming the surface of the characters, but never got really that deep in knowing who they were supposed to be. It had some major potential, but unfortunately I feel like it didn't get there.

I was expecting this to be a light sweet romance, but was really happy that it had a bit of angst. I just love second chance romances and especially ones where the characters met when they were kids. Penny and Blake started out as friends when Penny came to live at the foster home where Blake was already living. Blake became Penny's protector from day 1. He made her laugh and forget about the bad things happening in their lives. I just loved the flashbacks told from Blake's POV. It showed the de

“We had dreams and hopes for the future, just like any other sixteen-year-old kid. Except we weren’t like most other kids.”

Penny Wilson arrived at Freeman house a scared and devastated twelve-year-old girl. Her world had just imploded around her with the tragic death of her parents in a car accident. She may have walked away from the accident without any visible injuries, but she definitely had emotional wounds. With no family or friends to take her in, alone and afraid, she was thrust into

Lucky Penny was a sweet story about two unfortunate souls who were brought back together. For an NA novel, the plot was quite refreshing (albeit predictable at times). Penny Winston's and Blake Weston's relationship was very sweet when the both of them were still children, and it was interesting to watch their history unravel as the both of them are brought back together.

I do feel as if elements of the plot was

I've read a few of this authors books and enjoyed them. I must say this is my favourite to date.

Penny and Blake meet whilst they are both in foster care. They help each other survive and start making plans for the future together. Penny is left devastated when she goes back to the house and find that Blake has disappeared.

Years later we read of how Penny still hasn't recovered from Blake leaving her. She keeps herself to herself and won't let anyone get close.

When Blake re enters her life wil

I’ve been struggling since I finished this to come up with just the right collection of words to explain just how much this book touched me and I seem to fall short every single time. But for the sake of getting it out there, I’m going to sit here now and try to explain as best I can.

I honestly didn’t think that the author would be able to gut me quite the way she did w

"I wanted to give her the moon and the stars and everything between."

When your past is filled with sorrow, moving on is not always easy to do. Penny and Blake can attest to that fact.

When Penny's parents are killed in a car wreck, she is forced into foster care. There she meets Blake, a rough around the edges no non-sense kid who sees the spark in Penny's eyes, even when she doesn't. During their time together, they form a bond that they vow to never have br

"one summer, a lifetime of possibilities"

What a truly haunting story as we are thrown into the dual perspectives of Penny and Blake. Their bond although instant, would be forever more. Their time in foster care would push our characters until all they could think about was their freedom and escaping together when they were legally able to.

Your my lucky Penny. With you by my side, we can survive anything.

But the turmoil and unexpected circumstances Blake and Penny find themselves

When Penny was 12, her parents died in a car accident, with no other family to take care of her, she was sent to a group foster home where she met Blake. Friendship soon turned to first love for the young couple and they made plans for the future when they "aged out" and were free from the home.

You know that you have a good book in your hands when in that book you have so many emotions wrapped in two excellent characters and their surrounding.
Lucky Penny was that for me, I laughed and cried in the same chapter, I tried to kill the male main character more than once, and felt the pain both has gone thru.
Blake and Penny are broken souls trying to save each others, two kids that had gone thru so much that you would want to save them too. When you find a smile in the darkest day and that s

Lucky Penny is my 4th book by L.A. Cotton and in her true writing nature she gives you characters you easily understand and can relate to. Her writing always flows effortlessly.
Penny and Blake met when they were younger in foster care and it definitely played a big part in who they become as adults. Penny struggles to connect to other people, in relationships and friendships. Even though she tries to work through the changes in her life as Blake comes back into it, I would have loved to see her
I liked Lucky Penny a lot!

I love that it was a second chance romance and the way the characters find each other again. But I wish the stoey ran a bit deeper than it did. It is missing something for me, but not something that wasn't there, just more depth in what is there.
Also, IMO Blake didn't really act in a very cool way towards Penny, but he redeems himself. I wish I had more on them, specially in the present story. The past story is quite complete for me at least.

Over the top depressing heroine with zero charisma or interest in life. Slave to her foster care trauma and she carries it in everything she does, thinks and breathes. She was OTT boring.

The cover pic is a perfect indication of how depressing a colorless this story was.

Heartbreaking but beautiful book about love, survival, and learning to live your life again despite your past!

Penny is a young woman trying to move past the pain of a terrible childhood and taking baby steps to learn how to trust others again, although, she gave up on love long ago. She loved someone years before. He was her security, safety, and showed her what being loved was all about. Lucky Penny by LA Cotton is a beautiful second chance love story.

Penny and Blake are thrown together in a foster home when he was twelve and she came to live with the Freeman's after her parents died. Blake and Penny become fast friends and their relationship develops as they were each other's first loves and protectors. Future plans were made and suddenly Blake is gone. Penny has not had an easy life, and she’s left unable to connect to anyone and barely struggling to get by. She decides to take a summer job at a camp for foster kids to try to help herself move past some of the things she endured during her years in foster care. Instead of putting the past behind her, she ends up facing a man she never expected to see again. He was pretty much her lifeline when they were in foster care together, that is until he left without a word. Throughout the book, I was g ...more

OMG. What a book. What a story. Ms.Cotton has created a master piece. The characters are real and well developed. The story line is perfectly timed and all events are lined up in a perfect order. This is one of the most intensely awesome reads I've read in a while. Meeting Penny and Blake in the foster home was immediately heart warming. Going through all of the hell with them in the foster home was truly heart breaking, yet they were always finding ways to be with just each other. Best friends, they complete each other in every way. I can't believe I have never read any other books by this author because this book was amazing. I could not put my kindle down. I was hooked from the prologue.

This book, in all the serious issues that it dealt with, was unbelievably sweet and uplifting. Though there was angst, it didn't overpower the underlining story of a first love that would last a lifetime and overcome so many obstacles. It was told in an interesting prose of alternating chapters of her in the present and him in the past. For this story it worked so well and I don't believe it could have been told any other way to grasp the full effect the author was going for. I felt like the Pen ...more

Blake and Penny meet in foster care. They were separated and each lead very different lives.

This is a story of first love lost and rediscovered.

Throughout this story you will feel for Penny as she tries to bring herself out of her shell. She had a horrible past in her foster care and it has caused her to shun social interaction. Everyday things are a struggle for her.
