Jena C. Henry takes you by the hand and offers a wonderfully written book that will keep you turning the pages. Her newest book shares experiences that give the reader a good feeling. It is very heartwarming.

Her writing style has a down home feeling that lets the reader connect with the book’s content. Almost every page offers something enticing. I particularly enjoyed the chapters: “Porches”, “Wunderbar” and “Summer solstice”. Her daily experiences and Stewart’s golf joke in chapter 12 is a ge

Charli is the kind of woman I want to be friends with. Generous, thoughtful, creative, and fun-loving, she is always off on another adventure, making the world a better place as she goes. What I loved about the book were her descriptions of interactions with loved ones and her constant determination to find harmony and fulfillment in her relationship with her golf-addict husband. I found myself wishing Charli were my neighbor and I could ask her for advice about marriage and entertaining! Thank ...more

Did you ever read a book and find yourself nodding your head in agreement at situations and scenarios? Author Jena C. Henry had my full attention from page 1 to page 264 of The Golden Age of Charli RSVP. I found myself identifying with Charlotte McAntic the main character in the book time and time again and at one point exclaimed out loud to my husband "this is me!". The ability of an author to write so that the reader can identify with the characters she/he is portraying is one that is a gift a ...more

The Golden Age of Charli: RSVP is a true delight. I accidentally read The Golden Age of Charli: BMI first, but as it turns out it didn't really matter. I was happy to fill in the blanks of Charli's and Pud's retirement life that I had missed in the second book.
As a woman who has recently retired with a husband who has been retired for a few years already, I could relate to almost every aspect of Charli's daily routine. From a husband who chooses to speak in monotones or sometimes doesn't speak

In The Golden Age of Charli: RSVP, readers are introduced to Charlotte McAntic, one of the most personable, optimistic, and good-natured golf widows they will ever meet. When retirement does not play out the way she intends—more partnership time with her spouse—Charli attempts to keep herself busy around the house, cleaning out closets and scanning photographs. As mundane as her tasks may sound, Ms. Henry has a delightful way with words; she has Charli “herding the laundry from washer to dryer” ...more

This was a very sweet book, showing a slice of life for a retired couple who are coming to terms with how to interact once their children have grown up.

The descriptions were so realistic, I almost wondered if this was a memoir. I haven't read many books where the protagonist is in her 60's, but it gave me a great insight into what to expect once I hit that milestone.

I loved Charli's enthusiasm with which she wanted to get to know her nieces and nephews, but I also wished she'd talk straight to h

Can I just say now that I want Charli to be one of my best friends! Author Jena Henry introduces us to her lovely main character Charli, and her newly retired, golf loving hubby, Pud--a loving couple adapting to life in the 'Golden Age' of retirement. We're with her as she and Pud navigate their new lives and forge new paths to keeping the spark alive and being happy.

Family, friends and food adventures (yum!) provide lots of smiles, and many things to think about for those of us who are in this

The Golden Age of Charli - RSVP by Jena C. Henry

There are stories that take us to new worlds and then there are heartfelt, hometown stories like this one. This character driven story about the golden years understands our unspoken fears and desires, while the main character reflects real, human feelings and walks beside the reader... not beyond.

This charming novel is a totally accessible form of literary fiction. Not the high-brow academic sort that uses the five dollar words, but the up-close

This novel absolutely spoke to me! As I get nearer to my husband's retirement, I could really empathize with Charli's thoughts. Charli's husband, Pud, is now retired and it seems as though golf is his new full-time job. Charli always thought that retirement would be a time that they really bonded again and did lots of things together. "The Golden Age of Charli-RSVP" tells the story of how she and Pud find a new balance in their lives.

This was an enjoyable, delightful read. I could relate to the main character Charli, being in the same age group and being in the same situation. My husband took early retirement nearly 9 years ago and I vividly remember those first few months of suddenly being home together, after so many years of being home alone all the time. We have developed a better relationship and similar and individual interests, it took some time and patience. Thsnks to goodreads ,for receiving this book in a giveaway, ...more

It's rare that I read a novel about an older woman, so at first I was like 'will I have anything in common with this character?' and i realized as I read further, that didn't matter.
This story was incredible, so touching, with moments of laughter, and sadness that really got to you as a reader.
Jena is extremely talented at drawing the reader in so emotionally that you're left sighing or gasping. I absolutely adored this story, I am SO glad i read it.

I found this book a little slow at the beginning. Once it got going I really started to enjoy it. I couldn't always relate to parts of the story but it didn't stop me from feeling invested in the characters. I look forward to reading more from this author.

I chose to read Ms. Henry’s book at a perfect time—the very week my parents are retiring and entering a new, and somewhat frightening point in their lives. Ms. Henry’s book is a beautiful and candid look at what happens next, and she writes about it with an often light yet at times emotional touch. I believe my favorite aspect of her book are all the lovely and thoughtful descriptions to include Pud’s: “He had an open, friendly face, and he was the kind of guy that people adopted as an extra son ...more

I usually read action-thrillers, but I'm so glad I switched gears and read The Golden Age of Charli. Jena C. Henry writes a wonderful, touching, funny, and sometimes sad, story about life, love, and family, and how our closest relationships change over time. Great dialogue. A fun, enjoyable read and I'm looking forward to the next Charli novel. Highly recommend it! ...more
