Animals can talk but we don't understand what they say. So, I'm here to help you figure out what make them happy or sad, what they love and hate, what they need and what they don't.

Together, let's discover their stories. But what if we can't? Then, let's create not just one but as many stories as we can!

Let's give meaning to their "aarfs" and "meows", to their chirps and howls. Let's make their short lives as meaningful and wonderful as they can get.

I received this book from Goodreads.

I love any and every book that promotes the value of kindness towards animals.
Grandpa Bill wasn't always a kind old man with 1000 dogs. He used to be a cruel little boy that didn't know how to share- not even crumbs to a staving dog. His kindness was on short supply, too. He kicked the poor little pooch away.
Unbeknown to Bill, that scraggly dog begging for food was actually the Guardian of all Stray Dogs.
As fate would have it, he soon learned the value of both lessons through a deserving punishment. He himself was turned into a stray dog!
Bill was very frightened by his predicament and beseeches every person he sees to help him. None would listen. All they saw was an annoying, noisy dog.
Starving and alone, Bill realized that the way people had just treated him was just how he had treated the stray dog. Now he knew what it felt like.
He cried and apologized over and over and promised to care for stray dogs until he's old and gray. The Guardian of Stray Dogs heard him and changed him back so long as he always keeps his promise.

I would have also loved this book as a kid simply because it was about dogs and that dumb kid got his just desserts.

What a fun read with great illustrations! I can't wait to share it with the grandkids. I must admit to being wary when Billy kicked the dog away but the author, Iris Pickler, made up for this by the end of the story. Relatives or neighbors of children who don't have pets of their own really need to share this book. Sometimes, these kids don't understand that sitting on a dog isn't like playing with a stuffed animal.

Woofa is a wonderful character. She adds a little spirituality to a magical dog story. She is a guardian angel to lost and stray animals.

Grandpa Bill and His 1000 Dogs helps the reader discover answers the following questions. "Grandpa Bill is 1,000 years old. He has 1,000 dogs. How can he live so long? Why does he have so many dogs?" (back cover)

Thank you Iris Pickler and Goodreads for sharing this book with me!
