Definitely not my favorite in the "Marsden" stories. I had a really hard time liking the characters. The plot was okay but was a little off and I could not get past the characters and some of the circumstances. I thought the dialogue was not really in this time period.
After listening to this I can’t wait to listen to the rest in the series. I found this to be very intriguing read with a little mystery, romance, revenge, hate, desire good and bad, suspense, passion, lies, heat and steam at its finest. It will break your heart from the start leaving you wishing there was something you could do to help each character. The book starts with Rubina being kidnapped and finding out her husband is dead. For many years she believed this her world as she knows it isn’t worth living without him leaving her in the arms of his killer. She will not give in to the mad man’s desires and he will never find her in his bed. If she can’t have the man she loves there will be no man for her at all. Near deaths door she is found by her brother after being abused for so many years there isn’t much left of the sister he once knew. This is a story filled with so much pain, desire, trying to protect the ones you love only to make matters worse with each step you take.
Ms. Scotts narration was outstanding she really pulls the listener in with her very talented voice she delivers wonderful character voices you get lost in. There was a few that were close to the other but you could still tell who was talking and just what they were feeling. She has a powerful voice that gives many different accents which keeps the listener invested in the story. Her male voices were just as wonderful as her females. Ms. Scott really puts lots of emotion in to the story giving you a very vivid picture you have no trouble seeing in your mind. You always know who is taking and just what they are feeling. If any breaks were taken I could not tell. I found no higher or lower volume than any other place in this audio. Her performance was outstanding pulling me in taking me away making me feel what each character was going through. She has a delightful rich voice that is a pleasure to listen to it is smooth, clear that really took me away making me forget I was listening. I was so invested in this audio I found things to do so I would not have to put it down. Her tones and emotion are right on the money given you one highly emotional entertaining listen. I am very pleased with this narrator and look forward to listening to more of her work.
Once Rubina is rescued she finds her husband is very much alive and about to be married. Her tempter gets the better of her as she flies into a rage how dare he move on when she has been to hell and back. Once she gets her hands on him he will learn what hell is. Just wait until you get to the scene where she walks in on his at the church on his wedding day, lord that woman is out for flesh but still stays calm even when her emotions are out of control. You could have heard a pen drop as she said her peace leaving everyone stunned as she walks out of the church. That is until Noah comes to his senses and is hot on her heels keeping us very entertained as he tries to keep his temper through all the lies his wife is feeding him. She might have left him once but she will never leave him again. He must do some fast talking to get her to agree to his big demands. Ruby would give anything once she forgives him for moving on in his life with another woman to hold him in her arms again but with the danger of death near she knows she must keep to her plans to keep her believed safe and alive.
This is a very well written story full of danger, suspense, stalking, action, adventure and very emotional which is fast moving and at times keeping you on the edge of your seat. At times I have to wonder what Rudy is thinking when she not only puts herself in danger but her friends as well. Noah had my heart from the first with the past and what is happening around him. He does very well at pinning Rudy down but she just is not giving him the answers he wants. At first I felt very sorry for Ruby and then not so much just to come right around again to the first. The author gives an outstanding plot with wonderful characters. I found there were times I was cheering the characters on and other times when I yelled NO DON’T DO IT! The author had my attention from start to finish along with my heart from the first page. I am guessing her brother’s story is next to be written it looks to be just as interesting and exciting as this one is. I can hardly wait to read the past books and the next one. I just loved this from start to finish. The author has an amazing way of getting to her readers with vivid details and wonderful scenes that captive the read.
After losing Ruby, Noah is reluctant to risk his heart again. But just as he's ready to risk it all with Pearla, Ruby shows up with an incredible explanation and plans of her own. There's been a lot of water under that bridge for the past three years, so both Ruby and Noah have a long way to go before they can trust each other again.
This romance was more about staying in love through the tough times rather than falling in love in the beginning, which made it a refreshing change of pace. Noah is a compassionate and patient hero, and sometimes it was difficult to see that Ruby was worthy of him. Her character growth was absolutely necessary to their eventual reconciliation.
I thoroughly enjoyed this fourth installment of a terrific series. The interconnectedness of the characters makes it all feel like one encompassing escape, while each romance stands alone in its own story. Once you start getting to know the characters, it's wonderful to be able to get to know them better in each subsequent story. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
Noah and Ruby's story is amazing! Dawn Brower just keeps getting better! And so does this series. This one is full of love, action/adventure, mystery and a bit of stalker crazy! The whole story will keep you on your toes and wondering whats next making you not put it down until the end. I was so glad that past characters were brought in to this story. Lilly is one you would defiantly miss! I loved how this one ended and can't wait for the next story in the series!!!
This was a fast-paced, interesting read, that I found I did not want to put down! The story is fresh, original and exciting with characters that are realistic and likable.
Another swoon-worthy winner for Brower!

I purchased this as part of a multi author bundle called SCANDALOUS SCOUNDRELS.
I felt so bad for the h. She has been held captive for 3 years and finally escapes only to discover her husband is about to marry. The H has been told the h died. He decides he needs to marry, but will never love another.
My heart ached for the h in trying to convince her husband that she doesn't love him. She is trying to protect him from her kidnapper and feels he should divorce her and be with the women he was about to marry. I hate stories that are based on lies, but I did understand her wanting to protect the H.
There is mild lovemaking, described mildly, within marriage, heat level 3.5 out of 5 and only a few times.
Great suspense, enjoyed how the story unravels, HEA, romance and a tad of spice. Also, treated to an epilogue 1 year in the future which had a surprise. I will have to read the next one about the h's brother. I wasn't lost in this being the 4th book of the series, is a stand alone. (ljb)
Rubina Leone St. John…the Duchess of Huntly, believes her husband is dead, being held prisoner. Noah St. John…the Duke of Huntly, believes his wife is dead, reluctantly decides to remarry. Ok I don’t believe I have encountered this story like in quite some time. I want to give a spoiler but I won’t. The H is about to do something that he does not want to do and the h is not happy about it. It appears as if the h is vindictive and considers her beliefs to be the only valid ones. I think the h is punishing the H for something he had no control over. Oh there is miscommunication or the omission of truth that is causing all type of problems. Both the H and the h have some serious issues to work through. My my the plot thickens. Uh oh things have not gone as the h planned, the H is going to be furious. This is nothing like I thought it would be. I think a book is good when it causes you to have an emotional reaction to its characters, this one did just that for me. Check it out and see if you agree. There is mild steam.

What a book! It starts with a wedding and ends with a ..... I'm not going to share that. You'll have to read the book to find out. Ruby and Noah were very much married and in love. After a three year absence where each thought the other was left for dead, they are together again. Both with wounded hearts and not being completely honest with each other makes for a frustrating reunion. I enjoyed the tension, the spirit, the pretending not to love each other again and more. This is a face paced book, which is fourth in the series. It's not necessary to have read the first three, but many of the same characters show up in the book. You are welcome to read it as a standalone. I highly recommend it! I love forward to Damian and Pearla's story in the next book in the series.
A Marsden Romance book four is Noah and Rubina story. Thought dead Rubina has been gone for 3 years. She had been Noah everything and with believing her dead he finally decides that he needs to remarry, but a marriage of convenience is preferred. The story deals with what happens when Rubina returns. I rather enjoyed the story it was a bit different from other works by Ms. Brower yet it was a nice change of pace. It is easy to have a love-hate relationship with the Rubina character. I love the drama at the end so glad I decided to download and read this one. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
The premise of a woman surviving kidnapping and returning only to find her husband about to remarry seemed exciting. The story had a little trouble keeping my interest, though. The heroine was constantly flip flopping in her feelings, even in the middle of confrontations. The hero had similar issues. The resolution was too easy without enough tension. The side characters were a little more entertaining.

A delightful short story of second chances. It covers kidnapping, imprisonment, escape, wedding crashing, lies and romance. Our heroine, Lady Rubina Leone St. John, Duchess of Huntly, is hiding a grave secret from her husband and hero, Noah St. John, Duke of Huntly. Noah is suspicious that Rubina is not being honest to him and he intends to find out what she is covering up. Rubina and Noah are in danger, neither of them know the complete truth and end up in the enemy's hand. A quick enjoyable read. I thoroughly enjoyed this story with great characters, romance and intrigue. She was married to a duke and they were madly in love, but had a fight and she left to go see her father. She was kidnapped by her former beau and the ship went dow. Everyone thought she was dead. Finally, three years later he decided to see to get an heir, but did not love her. At the wedding his wife appeared and the intrigue began. I have enjoyed all the books from this author and can't wait for the next one.

I felt like she was pouting like a child because he promised to love her forever and is now marrying again. I also felt like much of the beginning didn’t make sense as I haven’t read the previous books in the series and I did not know why this Paolo abducted her and held her locked in a tiny room. I also did not like how very similar compared to the first novella it was in the anthology. It was like reading a copy in the first couple of pages since both characters (Tobias and Ruby) ”objected” at the wedding where the priest asked if someone thinks a couple shouldn’t marry. DNF, 0/5 stars
When Noah the Duke of Huntly lost his parents at a early age it was nothing compared to losing his wife Rubina after they argue and she leaves on a ship only to be lost at sea. He knows he will never love again but must marry to carry on his name so he sets out to marry Pearla but before they can say their vows his long lost wife appears.

This book was off the chart , I just loved how Noah and Rubina love never waivers. On the day that Noah is to be married, Rubina has come back from the dead. Noah can't believe that his wife the love of his life is alive. Follow this story and you won't be disappointed.
I can't wait for the next book, Discarded Pearl where we will have Damian and Pearls story.

This is a dramatic, romantic and thrilling story. Noah and Ruby lost each other in a dramatic way, and when are reunited years later, both have issues with trust. Both are stubborn and protective of themselves, but with some intervention they learn the truth about what really happened. They are a sweet couple and their reunion is intriguing and suspenseful.

I’ve read several books written by Dawn Brower; she has done a great job at writing a good book. She is becoming one of my favorite authors and I can’t wait to read more of her books.
The story line caught my attention at the very beginning and kept me interested throughout the entire book.

This is not your usual Historical Romance. The couple is already married but though each other dead. Can love survive these events of drama? Good storytelling. A very enjoyable read with a great ending.
Amazingly wonderful does not do this book justice. It was a tremendously wild story. I could not stop turning the pages as fast as I could in order to find out what happened next. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book in exchange for a free copy.
