Carrie is wary of cops after her husband was killed by one. Jake is the new hot neighbor and the cop that brings her son back to her after he catches Eric trying to break his windows. Eric is Carrie's son. He feels the need to grow up fast to take care of his mother. The story is heartwarming and sweet. Jake is interested in Carrie and is willing to go slow. Carrie is scared of moving forward and experiencing the loss of someone she loves again. Seeing them find their way was interesting. Eric w ...more

Now and again I like to change the books I am reading from thriller, psychological thrillers, heavy type books for a good old soppy romance, come on, who doesn't love one of them now and again? I especially love them when they have a lot of body to it [no, not as in naked bodies LOL] as in some hidden depth and not all mushy.

Here we have a woman named Carrie who is bringing up her six year old son alone since her husband was killed. He killed by S.W.A.T.

The trouble is, the young son wants to be

Not a lot of plot here, but it has something that is becoming exceedingly rare these days. A real hero. The hero is old-fashioned and sexy and protective. I love that! He looks out for his new next-door neighbor and her son.

I'll be checking out more books by this author.

Carrie Padilla lost her husband when he was shot by police in a bank robbery gone wrong. Jake Stafani, a S.W.A.T. member feels responsible for losing a young boy to gang violence. Forced to take a leave of absence from the force after a close call, Jake finds Carrie’s son, Eric, about to vandalize his house for an initiation into what he thinks might be a gang. Jake brings Eric home to his mom only to feel a strong pull to Carrie.

This is a cute short story that is very well written. The story h

I liked this story about a cop, Jake Stafani, who is forced to take leave from his police force and SWAT duties by his uncle who was the police Captain. He meets Eric his eight-year-old neighbor who was going to break a window in his new house he recently moved into. He drags Eric home to his mom, Carrie Padilla, who's husband was accidentally killed in a bank robbery and shot by a SWAT member 6 years ago.

Great story. I enjoyed this book. It was a sweet escape from the thrillers and mysteries that I love.
This book is about second chance love. After losing her husband in a tragic accident, Carrie has closed herself out to being involved with any man. The loss and pain still lingers within her heart and mind, she rather be alone and provide whatever she can to her 8 year old son, Eric.
Jake is still living with his regret, losing a young man to a local gang, when the boy asked for help and was turned away; he lives with the turmoil of not being there for the boy to help when help was asked. After b

Carrie Padilla is a widowed single mother, doing the best she can to raise her young son. When she answers a knock on the door to find a cop standing there with her son, her heart skips a beat or two. Not only is her son in trouble, but the too sexy cop turns out to be her new neighbor. Why does this guy have to be the one that really gets her heart racing. The last thing she wants or needs is a cop in her life.

Jake Stephani has had a hell of a day. First he is almost killed on a call. Then he's

Karen Docter is a new author to me. I'm always skeptical when I read a book from a "new to me" author, but Karen Docter didn't disappoint. This book really touched me. It is an emotional read with compelling characters and a great storyline. I really think the author did a great job with her character development. Carrie is a strong woman. She's raising her son alone and managing a successful career. I like how she seems to have figured it out. And despite her son's escapades, she does realize t ...more

An OK read..

Really, Jake ended up on Carrie’s doorstep for all of 60 seconds, to bring her son, Eric, back, and that was that. The story is about Jake almost getting killed; having to take a mandatory four week vacation, gangs, violence, the murder of a 12 year old boy, and the best name this author could come up with is Cop on Her Doorstep? The title really had nothing to do with the story.

All that being said, this author writes some of the best sexual tension I’ve ever read. She didn’t just pl

And angst. The hero is the epitome of what romance heroes are: tall, dark, tender when needed, and confident. The heroine, however, comes across as a scared, wimpy woman who can't make up her mind about much. Plus, there were too many breaks in the story that left the reader wondering what happened. Such as when Carrie goes to the location where Jake was called out to. She's standing behind a barricade and then that's the end of the chapter and there's no indication why sh

A contemporary romance involving a S.W.A.T. police officer and a widowed single Mom who hates the S.W.A.T. force for what they took from her. With these feelings between them how can they ever be together?
Author Karen Doctor gives a story of Carrie Padilla, a single Mother, who lost her husband when a S.W.A.T officer shot her husband in the back and killed him. Carrie closed herself off to any man after her husband was killed and focused strictly on her son and raising him. Carrie can’t bring he

An absolutely heartwarming HEA romance with just the perfect amount of heat, adding in humor and pull at the heartstrings dialogue in spades. Ms Docter has created captivating characters with personality and depth who I found an easy emotional attachment to early on. I especially enjoyed that the angst level was kept to a minimum...just enough to give the story a bit of edginess...and that the heart of the matter was addressed head on without drawing out the storyline.

I liked this story although I can say that there weren't a whole lot of surprises to it. I liked both of the main characters a lot. I also found it to be a pretty realistic story; something that many people could be dealing with. The romance was good; which there was plenty of. Jake was chasing and Carrie was running. I guess in simpler phrases I could say: " See Jake chase. See Carrie run. See Carrie let Jake catch her (against her better judgement). See Carrie run- Again!." The push-pull of th ...more

This book was offered as an ARC, but at the time while I was interested, I didn't have room on my list to review it at the time. I'm so glad I finally got to it. This was a fun, cute, and often amusing read. The main characters were very entertaining. And, the conflict was in proportion to the issue. I received a copy of this book for an honest review. "Cop on Her Doorstep" was an excellent read! Carrie is a widow with an eight year old son, Eric. Carrie meets Italian Officer Jake Stafani because he caught Eric trying to break into his house. Carrie doesn't like cops because a cop had killed her husband.
