There's a remarkable goodness in these pages. Through Foster's story, you'll get a glimpse of what it's like to have that open road before you. To be on "a journey to a new and more glorious experience of ourselves and of freedom."

I love the beautiful message of hope in this book. Foster reminds us, that when dealing with this diagnosis it is helpful to summon three very important qualities: courage, wisdom and peace. It takes courage to accept and then fight the illness. The easiest path of

This is my first review for Goodreads! I've left reviews on other sites (you know their names . . . :), but this is such a rich and valuable book I had to start out here with The Upside of Cancer.

I came across Christopher Foster's blogsite a few years ago . . . and have been smitten ever since. He's in his 80s -- and 82 or 83-year-old blogger!

This book exemplifies what is best in Foster's work: it is thrillingly quiet; he seems to bore into you deeply with the simplest of analogies; whatever

Christopher Foster's 'The Upside of Cancer' not only allows us to visit the intimate aspects of his first hearing the diagnosis of this dreaded disease, but offers hope as he takes other sufferers along with him on his journey. Foster, who is a 'artist of words' creates a visual for each thought, each feeling, and each experience that penetrated his being and became the catalyst for change from fear to peace.
A short story that will 'lift you up' regardless if cancer or another malady has shaken

The Upside of Cancer is a personal reflection about living through cancer. Christopher Foster manages to tread a fine line about his spiritual experiences. The references to God and a soul are almost incidental and a non-believer wouldn't find them jarring. Similarly the references to wisdom and inner peace are enough to satisfy a believer.

Having said that, the important message of this short reflection is that fear does not have to overwhelm you - if you look for joy you can find it.

Chris' book is so much more than his healing journey through cancer. It speaks to a lifetime of the integrity and
steadfastness of his spirit. And therefore it is the spirit behind his words that has the impact on all who read them.
Very well written message!

Not for me. Read the book with an open as possible mind but the short book did nothing to convince me of an upside to cancer. It all seems a case of looking at it through rose-tinted spectacles; and if you can do this, I'm sure anything can be shown to have a silver lining. I'm not sure why cancer gets picked out for this type of narrative - maybe it's the lack of a cure and the fear of treatment and of dying but there are other awful diseases which do not get this type of sentimentality. ...more

The Upside of Cancer: How a Terrifying Illness Can Lead You to a New Life is a short positive book that goes over the author's experience when dealing with a deadly disease. Christopher Foster has been diagnosed with colon cancer in 2013 and this book captures his inner thoughts from the early stages of his diagnosis throughout his recovery.

From the book, it seems Chris has always had a positive outlook on life and has always had a strong compass that guided him through different decisions he

Have you ever known someone that has been diagnosed of some form of cancer? This is a very personal heart felt story of how a terrifying illness can lead you to a new life and the struggles to survive. My father was diagnosed with throat cancer and that is why reading this book after he has passed will help me understand more of cancer. To me, there is no upside of cancer so I wanted to read this book to see how it is even possible. You will love this book if you like true life stories. Cancer ...more

The Upside of Cancer is written with great inner wisdom and awareness, sensitive care, honesty and encouragement. It is a little book that you can read easily in one sitting, and then reread for continued encouragement. I am recommending this book for loved ones who are struggling with cancer because I know it will be a great comfort to them and give them the courage and inner peace they need to deal most effectively with their illness. If I was to put this book in a category, it would be ...more

If you know anyone who has cancer and needs an encouraging word, I recommend giving them a copy of this book — or reading it yourself if you've had cancer. In this short, readable and profound book, Chris Foster candidly shares his journey and reflections on coping with colon cancer.

In the Upside of Cancer, readers will find calming wisdom and insights to help them overcome their fear and find inner peace, despite their cancer diagnosis. I find Christopher Foster inspiring and appreciate his
