I loved the story very much and really enjoy reading it. The only thing wrong is that every plot unfolds in the expected way and you can assume what will happen after each problem towards the end because he always wins, no matter how many barriers they try to create for him. But i really enjoyed his kind of humour.

No, a popravdě, hlavního hrdinu jsem taky zrovna nemusela. Ale celkově jsem se pobavila.

Normally I like Paasilinna but this book was just torture. The caracters are one dimensional, the story is simplistic, not one character is likable, the coincidences are beyond belief. I had a feeling that the author didn't care much about the book at all. Disssapointing especially because of the high expectations resulting from his previous books that I liked.

Ingeniør Akseli Jaatinen skal bygge bro over Daumannselva i Granbacka.

I almost forgot how readable his books are. It only took me a few hours to read it, and I literally couldn't drop it.
Amazing. That Finnish humour is really something special. I love his writing style. I don't think any of his other books will beat Charming Mass Suicide, but this one is pretty close to it.
This is what I call a great book.

A very interresting book in Paasilinna's canon. It is less about escaping into the nature for diverse reasons/accidents than the archetypal heroism that fuels the finnish author. A quiet different reading that its other books. As an early book in its bibliography, you can also feel a glimpse of optimism that will darken in its following writtings.

Onnellinen mies on Paasilinnaa parhaimmillaan. Siltainsinööri Jaatisen asettumista pieneen kylään on mukava seurata.

Konečne som prečítala všetky Paasilinnové do češtiny preložené knihy.

Starts out beautifully and uniquely but slowly starts to resemble rather average Finnish movie with worn humor. Loved the afterwords, gave surrealistic, absurd feel to the novel exactly the right way.

Arto Paasilinna did it again. The book about the adventures of Aleksi Jaatinen is just wonderful, and it makes me happy inside. It's written in a lovely nordic style. A definite recommendation!

Vika lienee korvassa.
