Devlin Tracy is a very good insurance investigator in a profession that rewards success. He lives in a luxury condo on the Las Vegas Strip and only works when he feels like it. He also drinks vodka by the pint, cracks wise to damn-near everyone, and has what can charitably be described as a complicated relationship with his girlfriend. None of that matters to the Garrison Fidelity Insurance Company. They’re interested in results. Which is why they keep Trace on retainer.
A patient at a private clinic died, shortly after making his doctor the beneficiary of his insurance policy. Suspicious. Now a wealthy friend of the Garrison Fidelity is a patient at the same private clinic, and he isn’t doing well. Troubling. Send Trace, who has a natural way of shaking things up. On the surface everyone’s friendly and nothing points to murder, fraud or larceny. A late-night beatdown from two masked thugs sends a very different message, however, and tells Trace that he’s onto something. If only he could figure out what he’s onto.
Trace is the first in a series of suspense novels featuring the charmingly hardboiled insurance investigator.
As usual I didn't want it to end! Been a fan of the Destroyer since it first came out. Kind of mixed feelings about the new heading but for the most part, I still think it's a great story!
Somewhat unusual in that Stone and Freya have each a storyline dealing with family. Remo Williams is their father with different women.
Great is back in her homeland, a chain of islands north of Scotland, participating in a ceremony that would restore her mother's honor. Stone wants to find his mother and is somewhat disappointed at what he finds.
Warren Murphy has long been one of my all-time favorite authors, and I've loved the Destroyer series since at least the early 80's. This new Legacy series is, to me, a worthy spin off. I found this entry to have some of the vibe from the early Sapir/Murphy Destroyer books, but not quite the same amount of goofy. Which isn't a slight on this book. If you're a fan of Remo & Chuin, I think that you'll like this new series. I know I do.
