DNF @ 55%. I thought this seemed to have potential...but it quickly started going downhill for me and never recovered.

Review by Jen Hagen

Austin and Claire were high school sweethearts when Claire made the heartbreaking decision to let Austin go pursue his dream of becoming a rock star. It was a devastating crush to both of them, and a lost love that was irreplaceable, even though Austin tried his luck at forgetting Claire a time or two…or perhaps a year with women whose name he didn’t bother to find out. Six years have passed and this is the first time they have seen each other since Claire told him she no lon

**I received an electronic copy of When He Came Back from the author in exchange for an honest review.

When He Came Back was a great contemporary romance not just about love but forgiveness. Both Austin and Claire had to not just forgive each other but themselves.

While I didn’t always agree with Claire’s decisions, I got them. I thought Claire was pretty lucky that Austin was as forgiving as he was. I don’t know that I would have been. I expected him to be a lot angrier a lot longer. I also was s

The heroine in this book? Arg!

She's just...

Let's be honest here, shall we?

By 61%, I was wishing the hero would say this:

She's secretive, manipulative, cruel, and a big ol' user. I hated her!

DNF AT 61%

Too long and too dragging! Considering that the plot only happened in a few months, there were still a lot of areas left hanging. What happened to Claire's work? I felt like the ending was rushed. The story dragged on for 30 plus chapters only to have everything summed up in one chapter!

I love second chance romances but this book just fell flat. I've never read a book with so much crying and sobbing. Characters were no well developed and it could definitely use more editing. I struggled to finish this book. Overall disappointment.

I really enjoyed this book. This is the story of Austin and Claire. Austin being a rock star and Claire a single mother. This 2 have known each other since they were kids and finally fell in love with each other when they were 14 years old. However, somewhere along the way, things got screwed up so badly when Claire found out she was pregnant with the baby of Austin but decided to break up with him instead of telling him the truth. Her reasoning was, she didn't want to trap him into being a youn ...more

I had both a good and a bad response to this debut novel - hence my middle ground rating.

Firstly, it's really well written and I was impressed with the way the author weaves the story and brings in the secondary characters. However, the one thing that really let this story down for me was the main female character, Claire. She was so selfish and childish. I dislike stories where a woman keeps her pregnancy and the resulting child away from the father unless there is a stonking good reason. Her

This book is beyond amazing!

When He Came Back is about Love, Forgiveness, Heartbreak, and Family.

The choice Claire made, well thats one she's had to live with for five years now....until she sees his face again. Austin McKinley. Famous rock star god and much more!

Claire and Austin are putting the past behind them and moving forward. Moving forward means moving past all the decisions that were made five years ago. So not only are Claire and Aus

Very much enjoyed this story. Loved the second chance, surprise and little twists. Loved all the characters and hope there will be a sequel. Some unresolved questions still lingering..
Although I enjoyed the story of Claire sacrificing her future so Austin could pursue his dream to become a rock star, both characters did way too much crying throughout the entire story. Enough already!

I liked the premise of the story and it was well written, the downside for me was although I really liked Austin's charcter I just could not relate to Claire at all.

This is an amazing debut novel for Jessica Briones. I love the second chance at first love kind of romance. Austin will definitely match some of the best book boyfriends on your list. A must read!

This was a great read, well written, though the plot was a little cliched. The secondary characters were pretty appealing and I would love to see stories for Hunter, Alexa & Abby

I like too call myself a writer, but I’m in constant doubt. Influenced by my father’s love of Pablo Neruda to novels by Isabel Allende and Gabriel Garcia Marques variety has always been a part of my to read lists. Born in Chile and brought up in Canada the exposure to literature was endless. Reading was something my siblings and I did a lot of in order to learn a new language. The writing came muc ...more
