Jesse Warrick used to consider himself a kickass medic, but a teammate’s brush with death has him questioning everything. Now he’s been promoted to field commander of HORNET. How can he lead when he can’t get his shit together? And how can he focus when the sexy new recruit makes him want to break the rules?
Lanie Delcambre can’t seem to find solid footing within the elite hostage rescue team. Worse, the man she’s loved for most of her life is now her boss. She’d kill to act on the chemistry between her and Jesse, but she can’t risk ruining her career.
It was only supposed to be a training mission. No live ammo, no hostages, and no real bad guys—only someone didn’t give the bad guys that memo. When their hotel is taken hostage with half of HORNET inside, Jesse and Lanie are the team’s only hope of escaping alive…
Tonya Burrows wrote her first romance at age thirteen and hasn't put down her pen since. Originally from a small town in Western New York, she suffers from a bad case of wanderlust and is still searching for a place to call home. She shares her adventures with her husband, two adorable doodles, and Scribble the Writer Cat.
When she's not writing about hunky military heroes and their courageous K9s, Tonya can be found watching either true crime or baking shows while snuggled up on the couch with her furbabies. She also enjoys traveling—especially long road trips to see the National Parks.

Code of Honor is interesting read. The action mix with romance, I like it. Since this is my first read by Miss Burrows, I need to read more of this series to have more connection with the story.
I do like military romance where the action does not overwhelmed the romance. And the romance does not take over the action plot. So perfect balance.
Jesse Warwick is the HORNET Team medic who’s struggling with a lot of issues but mainly how to develop a relationship with his 15-year old troubled son, Connor, and how to cope with perceived medical failures in the field. Complicating his life even more is the new addition to the team, Lainie Delcambre, a woman who was part of his past and he can’t keep out of his mind and heart. She’s trying to fit in as the only female in the group.
This story took a while to get going as much time was spent developing these characters in the beginning, despite a great prologue. Though both were in earlier books in the series, Jesse and Lainie weren’t fleshed out much. It was worth the time spent though because when things got crazy, I felt like I knew them so well and could predict their actions. Jesse and Lainie were well suited despite their differences. I also liked how the issues related to her being the only female on the team were portrayed. It was honest without being indicting or whining.
Speaking of action, it was pretty nonstop once the setting shifted to Martinique. It was riveting, heartbreaking and chilling. There was nothing predictable about anything that happened from thereon out. I literally couldn’t stop reading. I’m used to the books in this series being suspenseful but this was so much more. It was breathtaking.
I love this series and really liked this book, even though there were parts that broke my heart. The ending promised at least one more story and that makes me happy. 4.5 stars

If I wasn’t at the edge of my seat, I’m looking for what will happen next, but then again, I didn't have to wait long between exciting scenes. This book is non stop action from the beginning until the end. From hostage situations to bombs, to gunfights, to the steamy scenes...I devoured every page.
Lanie is now part of Hornet team but seems to be having a hard time fitting in. Perhaps earning respect from the team would help, but for some reason, there is a barrier that’s preventing that from happening. With the hostage situation, Lanie will be forced to take action inadvertently showing her worth. But will it be enough to earn her the respect she deserves? Will she get it from the man she once loved?
While Jesse leads the Hornets, Lanie joining the team was never an issue for him. He already respects her more than she knows. Although, with his past experience with loss, Jesse has become more protective of his crew, that including Lanie and his son which has dampened his relationship with them. He knows he has to work several issues if he wants to make both relationships work. Just like Lanie, he has a few things to sort out before giving himself the freedom to really move on.
It felt like forever since the last time I’ve read this series. And when I checked, the last installment of this series was in 2015. Why Burrows waited so long, I have no idea, but she shouldn’t have waited. As I read my reviews of the previous books, I remembered how good these books are. Honestly, this book is just as good if not better.
I love that Burrows wrote a love story of two people who not only found each other but also pursuing their own dreams. I love that they didn’t have to sacrifice anything for the other because they gave each other a wide berth for growth. Of course, it wasn’t easy for them in the beginning. Trust will be their biggest issue but I assure you they will survive this.
As far as the action and suspense go as mentioned earlier, it’s none stop. I kid you not it was like watching a very good action film. Burrows did a good job in making this book pretty darn exciting. The banters between the guys had me laughing, and Jesse’s relationship with his son was heartwarming. I like that Burrows portrayal of the characters are both kick ass and easy to love.
Next up is the Cajun Hornet, the player of the team, who apparently have been cursed. Poor guy. I have a feeling his story will be very entertaining.

Tonya Burrows’s long-running HORNET series has so far, been a breath of fresh air. ‘Code of Honor’ is Jesse/Lanie’s story and as newly-minted team leader, Jesse’s off to a bad start, burdened by his self-doubts, his desire for a childhood friend and a son who doesn’t give him any time of day. A hostage situation at the end of their training however, exacerbates this, throwing the group as well as his teetering confidence into chaos.
Unlike the other paramilitary or security companies formed by a tight group of ex-military buddies, Burrows’s HORNET men are openly broken, psychopathically quirky and badly damaged—physically and mentally—that it’s a wonder they can ever be functioning as individuals let alone as a cohesive security group. But they stumble along, badly might I add, flying by the seat of their pants from a disaster to another while trying to hold themselves together, not dissimilar to a boy-band put together by an executive producer and told to sing/dance in harmony in front of squealing fangirls from the onset.
This bunch of misfits and their antics however, keep me coming back to this series, because it’s entertaining (with some bit of schadenfreude on my part thrown in) to see how they get themselves into deep water (yet again) and then fight their way out of it with nary a thing but their wits and pocket knives.
For most part, I liked the action and the suspense, and the introduction of a kickass former Texas Ranger and Jesse’s blast from the past brought a different dynamic to the misfits of HORNET. Yet while the action flowed, along with an overarching plot that reeled me in, the romance bit gave me pause, because it wasn’t something I could envision at all, or at least, found difficult to buy into.
Had Lanie really never stopped loving Jesse from afar, even though Jesse had moved on so thoroughly that he’d married 3 women after having feeling something for her as a teenager, then only confessing at the end that he’d only wanted her? That it had taken over a decade to make this happen seemed like an unfair deal for Lanie, who didn’t seem to question Jesse’s faux-pas, his personal angst, his inability to see past his own issues and his circling around the block for nearly 20 years before coming back to her.
Admittedly, the second-chance romance is a trope that’s problematic for me. A character tends to struggle more than the other with unrequited feelings and resentment, and sometimes even the admission of having ‘loved’ a person for so long yet doing the opposite thing about it (in Jesse’s case at least) makes it more unforgivable. The story’s focus on suspense meant that Lanie/Jesse’s romance was too easily squared away with love declarations and a simple apology to Lanie about having broke her heart all those years ago seemed to resolve it all for them, even when seen in the light of how easily they could lose their lives in the most unexpected of ways. With an epilogue that quickly shifted the focus away from them and onto Jean-Luc’s half-cocked effort to save a woman he barely knew, I couldn’t help but feel disappointed in how Jesse/Lanie was handled as a pairing.
It isn’t to say that the other aspects of romantic suspense weren’t handled well, because those parts of ‘Code of Honor’ were engaging with some emotional twists and turns that secondary characters inadvertently revealed about themselves when they’re thrust into critical situations. So while I’m mixed about this book, I’m hanging onto the HORNET series for that alone, then crossing my fingers for a romance that I can actually get fully invested in.
Action packed from the first page to the last! A training mission for new recruits, with the bonus of a few extra days at a resort goes terribly wrong for the men and women of Hornet. Emotional and sexy, I couldn't put it down! Full review to release on http://www.tbqsbookpalace.com. Nov. 1st
Book 4 of the HORNET series. Contemporary romantic suspense. Can be read as a standalone romance but characters overlap in the books. I read a prior book in the series several years and hundreds of books ago and didn’t remember anything more than an impression. I had no problems following the characters or events in this book.
Action packed and tension throughout. Espionage and romance and self awareness of some PTSD issues. It was a rush from start to finish. This book was mainly for Jesse and Lanie. I want to read more about Jean-Luc, and Ian and Marcus. I’ll be picking up the rest of this series soon. I look forward to this team growing and finally beating the opposition into nonexistence.
So happy to be back in the with the HORNET team. It’s been a while. This was a very enjoyable fast paced action packed book. It was well written and the storyline was very good. Jesse, who is the medic for HORNET, has been having some trouble lately. Between his teenage son Connor living with him on the ranch full time now and having a strained relationship with him and his PTSD, things have been tough mentally and emotionally lately. The only recent bright spot is Lanie, but he is trying hard not to do anything about that now that she has joined HORNET and is back in his life on a regular basis. He has known her since they were teenagers but they were never a couple. Jesse has been married 3 times and doesn’t really have a desire to start anything with any woman. In fact he swore off women. But this is Lanie an they have some serious chemistry and resisting her proves futile. The condom incident their first time together was pretty funny. Good thing for Jean-Luc. The training exercise the team goes on in the jungle and then their vacation to Martinique is where the excitement really begins. Unbeknownst to them there is a mission there. Things move fast from there and it’s awesome to see the group in action doing what they do best. Things do get pretty intense and scary there for a while but this is the HORNET crew, so they’ve got this. What will become of Jesse & Lanie? Is it possible to have a relationship under their working circumstances? Do either of them want more than just sex? Will Jesse and his son Connor build a better relationship? Will Jean-Luc break his curse? Great set up in the epilogue for the next book featuring my favorite sexy Cajun, Jean-Luc!!

Intense, action-packed story all the way! Jesse & Lanie's story is everything I hoped it would be and more! Another great addition to this fast-paced Must Read series!

This book started out so good. It grabbed me from the first page. The plot is intriguing and Jesse's son, Connor, is a wonderful study of a 15 year old boy. Unfortunately, I am not a fan of the teenage lust but still can't touch as an adult trope that the hero, Jesse, and heroine, Lanie, are caught up in for the first part of the book. I especially hate getting bashed upside the head with it every chapter and sometimes several times during the chapter. Makes me want to practice hurl the book, except I've got a Kindle, but you all know what I mean. But this is an ARC and I committed to read it and I'm very glad I stuck with it because midway through this book it turns into one of the best action, page turners I've ever read. I'm guilty of reading through the night too.
Jesse Warrick is the HORNET Team medic and has little desire to be anything other than that, except maybe to earn MD after his name, but due to his unstable past, that may be nothing more than a unfulfilled dream. Much like a HEA for him is. He's tried. Three marriages. No ring. Now that Lanie is on the HORNET Team, she is a constant reminder of just how much he wants that elusive HEA, with her. When he's promoted to field commander it's even more difficult.
Lanie Delcambre left the Texas Rangers to be part of the HORNET Team. She can't explain it, but it just feels like the right fit for her. One problem. Big problem. Jesse Warwick. He is the one she fell in love with at age 14 and just can't move on from. Now he's her boss and is treating her with kid gloves, preventing her from gaining the respect of the other guys on the team.
The Team had a week long training exercise after which they get a time of R&R at a very posh resort. Things heat up for Jesse and Lanie in more areas than the bedroom when the team lands in the middle of a hostage situation with no weapons of their own.
Jesse is the HORNET medic who has saved the life of several members of the team but he can't get over the death of one of his own and the guilt is eating away at him and knocking his confidence. Throw in the distraction caused by his estranged fifteen year old son coming to live with him, his growing attraction to fellow team member Lanie and his promotion to field commander and something has got to give. Lanie has been friends with Jesse's cousin for years and she fell in love with him when they were still children, he broke her heart when they were teenagers but she's never gotten over her crush on him so working in close contact is torture. When a training mission goes horribly wrong and half of the team end up being taken hostage it's up to Jesse and Lanie to get them all out alive. To do that they have to put their feelings to one side but in a high adrenaline situation things are about to come to a boil.
I've loved Jesse ever since I first started reading the HORNET series so I was really looking forward to his book. He's always been the light hearted joker of the group but recent events have changed him and he just can't get past the fact a team mate died on his watch. It was heartbreaking for all of the team but Jesse has taken it even harder because he just keeps thinking that there should have been something he could have done to save him. He has a history of depression and is close to being dragged back down into a dark abyss by his demons but his son and his team need him so he's trying really hard to fight for them. I really enjoyed the romance between him and Lanie, they have history but it was all fairly innocent so there is no bitterness or sense of betrayal between them - it's all about unexplored lust and long term friendship instead which I loved.
The beginning of this story was a little slower than previous books in the series but that was to give us a chance to catch up with some of the previous couples and to get a feeling for the amount of history there is between Jesse and Lanie. We also get to meet Jesse's son Connor who added an interesting dimension to the story. Once half the team is taken hostage the action takes of at an accelerated pace as Jesse and Lanie work together to try and get everyone to safety. I really enjoyed the suspense side of this story and it's all set to continue straight into the next book Reckless Honor where Jean Luc is set to take the lead.
Fantastic story! Poor Jesse can't catch a break these days while now saddled with his sullen 15 year old who has a temper and Lanie, the only female member of the team who takes no crap from anyone and they've been friends and crushed on each other a long time.
You read the blurb so I'll pass that and can tell you first that saying too much will give too much away, however what starts basically as an exercise for the new team and a pleasant rendezvous for everyone on Martinique for a much needed vacation for all ends up being a serious hostage situation that the team walks in on without knowing. The overlapping plot is Tiffany and Claire both research Dr's who are working on a high priority secret project and Tiffany has just broke the code for the virus, ends up kidnapped while Claire is in South America garnering what she deems necessary. These two woman are now pawns between one very nasty man, a half a@@ group of pawns who are trying to grab them and party number three is the Hornet team. Hornet's never fail ladies, not in the field or steaming up the sheets.
What a great story, I love the suspense, action, the men of the team and the plot. Tonya Burrows does write a great story, every single time. I love them. Read the book!! I have been waiting for this one and the wait was well worth it!! 4.5 Stars !!

Code of Honor by Tonya Burrows is a Hornet Novel. If you don’t know, Hornet is the name of the organization of mercenary operations taken on by this group. This is a good organization of heroes with military or enforcement service who take on operations. This is Jesse Warrick and Elena (Lanie) Delcambre’s story. Author Burrows has written an excellent novel of adventure, danger, and reluctant romance. It’s well written with great fight scenes and conversations. This wonderful group is as interesting as it is diverse. Most are heroic, if somewhat or sometimes dysfunctional. They do a serious and very dangerous job and often costs more than mere money can pay them to do. You need to read the story to get the scoop on all the great characters and their relationships. They are interesting and very complicated. I don’t like to do spoilers but I will give you the gist and the setup of the beginning. Jesse and Lanie were teenage friends with a lot of connection. A bit young for true love, but maybe not. However, Jesse managed to marry and have a son, then a divorce or two or four? Anyway, it’s been a lot of years and mileage, but Lanie has just come back into his life by training with Hornet. Jesse’s at a very confusing and bad spot in his life. After years of getting it together, his ex-wife has sent his teenage son to life with him, basically because she doesn’t want to deal with him any longer. The son, Connor, thinks his dad doesn’t love or want him there. That’s not true, but he also knows his mom doesn’t want him around her ‘new’ family (a correct assumption). Jesse wants Lanie with an almost uncontrollable need; she wants him pretty much the same way, but they’re fighting it with all they have. Neither thinks they’re right for marriage or love. But things being what they are, they’re off to a training exercise with some recruits and some of the injured and older members of the team leading the way. Jesse allows his son to participate, after all, it’s only training. After the training, they’re headed for time in the sun as a reward. Then all hell breaks loose at the resort. And I do mean hell… It’s exciting, interesting, well-written and if you like military adventure and romance, this book’s a must read. I personally, am looking forward to many more of this author’s works. Yes, I’m now a fan! It’s a relatively quick read and certainly hard to put down, so don’t!

I really enjoyed reading Code of Honor and although I found it slow to get going. Once the real action started I was soon hooked and at times this story had my heart pounding. As well as keeping me on the edge of my seat. Especially during the initial takeover of the hotel by the baddies, and again later when the team realise they have no choice but to try and rescue the hostages. With very little in the way of fire power, I really had to wonder if everyone was going to survive, or whether Jesse and Lanie would get their happy ever after. As for the revelations near the end and that epilogue. Well that certainly left me excited for the next book in this series. And I'd happily recommend Code of Honor to others.
"Received an Advance Reader Copy in exchange for a fair review" 4.5 stars First off, I was grabbed from the first chapter of the book and was immersed in the story until the end. Tonya Burrow’s mature and skilled writing style, how she balances action, danger and suspense with the emotions, struggles and fear her characters go through is just amazing. I loved the hero, Jesse Warrick, a man who doesn’t do flings and who is “a marriage kind of guy”. His dilemmas and goals as a medic were well handled and credible. His long time relationship with Lanie, the heroine, is one of my favorite tropes. And it was delightful to watch, in the end, the process of choosing the field commander – an indirect feminist statement I appreciated. Since we have access to his (and others) character point of view, we are really in tune with his thoughts and feelings, and that was also very well done and credible. But what I liked more about Jesse was his relationship with his 16-year-old son, Connor, and that’s what made him so attractive and yummy (of course he’s handsome, seen by the bad guys he’s “a big blond guy” who looks “like a beach bum”). The way he cares for Connor, his sense of guilt for the things he failed, his overwhelming love for the sullen teenager were just endearing. And I loved to have Connor’s point of view too, so sweet and well done! I also loved all the attention given to Gabe Bristol, I guess the narrator has a soft spot for him, as I do. The camaraderie and friendship between the HORNET people, the vivid dialogue and even the glimpses we have into the bad guys’ minds – making them a little more human – make this book a compelling read with lots of suspense and some fun moments. I look forward for the next installment – Jean-Luc/Claire – and I’m very curious about Ian. I'm grateful to the publisher, Entangled Publishing/Amara, and NetGalley for providing a free copy.
Another action filled story from Tonya Burrows. This book is number four in the Hornet series and focuses on Jessie and Lanie. I really enjoyed the personalities of the two main characters in this story. Jessie is a single dad and is struggling to connect with his son and Lanie is trying to find her place in the team. They have known each other for a long time and both have feelings for each other. The story then takes you to where the action for the book comes in, while on a training exercise in a foreign country the team have to step up when some of their own along with Jessie's son are kidnapped. This book has plenty to inspire you to keep reading with some great twists and turns along the way.
> > Judging a Book by it's Cover < < Woo-hoo, I love the rebranded covers! Darker, edgier look to match the content! Jesse and Lanie's book has been much anticipated and the synopsis is not disappointing!
> > Looking Deeper < < POV ~> Third-person.
Setting: French Caribbean island, Martinique.
Holy cow, the wait was WELL WORTH IT! As the team's medic, all Jesse wanted to do was heal and fix people but with every mission he took on, the darkness threatened to consume him further. The same darkness was what kept him pushing the people he loved most away, including his teen son Connor and newest team member (but long-time family friend), Lanie. All Lanie's ever wanted to do was help people, but following in her dad's footsteps as a Texas Ranger was not as fulfilling when her hands were tied by protocols and red tape. Joining HORNET seemed like the logical step but now she felt as though she did not fit in and would never be seen as "one of the guys". After taking the recruits on a training game, they converged on Tuc's island hotel for a weekend getaway. However, a relaxing day at the beach was taken off the itinerary by a powerful new enemy. All the HORNET guys were present and accounted for in Code of Honor, even as they became separated and needed to form new commands on the fly. Viral research, hostages, some steamy chemistry, several happy updates, new love interest possibilities, and a devastating loss all kept this plot flowing through the ups and downs at an exciting pace. I'm not a crier. I had to PUT THE BOOK DOWN. I could not see the words through the damn tears. Tonya Burrows pulled out all her tricks on this book and, man, it gutted me. Well done, Ms. Burrows, well done. I had an inkling right away about "Paul" and "orange sneakers", but it did not detract from the story itself at all for me. I was pleased with how it all unfolded, even if someone had to take one for the team. The conclusion was solid and the epilogue provided a tantalizing peek into the next story to come....
I loved Jess and Lanie's story and am now biting my nails to read the Ragin' Cajun's book!!! While I whole-heartedly would recommend this book to Romantic Suspense fans, I'd highly encourage readers to start from the beginning of the series as the plots do follow a timeline and would benefit greatly from reading the books in order. . Burrows' HORNET series is one I like very much. So I was more than a little excited about getting Code of Honor from Netgalley. It was set up beautifully in Broken Honor which I loved.
Code of Honor has a lot going for it. The intense push-pull between Jesse and and Lanie is especially well done. While I did think they were both overthinking it a lot, once they got going, it picked up nicely. The backdrop of Jesse's relationship with his son Connor was also especially interesting and emotional.
I like Jesse. His character strength and flaw are one and the same: he cares too damn much. And this plays out over and over in the book. Thank you for showing and not telling. As the medic for the HORNET team, and potentially the new leader for ops, he is stuck right in the middle of his worst nightmare when a training mission gets hijacked into a real mission.
Lanie is, well, Lanie. Her combination of brash and sensitive is makes her by turns sweet and fierce. Her overthinking things wasn't just about Jesse but also her place in HORNET as a woman. While my preference is for less of that agonizing in general, it held with her character - especially having seen how she operates in Broken Honor. I loved Lanie's character.
I especially liked getting to see more of Ian, who has been a favorite of mine since I first saw him in Honor Reclaimed. I can't wait for his book because it's going to be *the* book of the series for me. I liked how the next book was telegraphed at the end.
So, what didn't I like about it and why is it only 3-3.5 stars? See my spoilers below:
Will I continue this series? You bet! I just wish I felt better about this book.
Jesse Warrick and Lanie Delcambre have done everything they can to deny the chemistry that bounces between them, and now, with Jesse being promoted to field commander of HORNET, a relationship between them can't happen. However, when the HORNET team finds themselves in the right place at the wrong time when a group of terrorists take over the island they're staying at, Jesse decides to take a chance. Will they survive the terrorists plot, so they get their happy ever after; or will they're working together prove too much of a distraction and cause them to go their separate ways?
What do you get when Ms. Burrows pens a story encompassing a bunch of terrorists determined to cause lots of destruction, a team of good guys determined to keep everyone safe, and a fast-paced storyline with plenty of action? Well, for me this is a story that was captivating, thrilling and one that took me on an edge-of-my-seat adventure once the terrorists enter the story. The way this story started had me totally hooked by what was happening, as one of the secondary characters knows she's in trouble and it's palpable there's no way she's going to be able to get herself out of it. What will happen to her? Will someone come to her rescue? Will she be able to escape on her own?
As for the dialogue, it was intense due to the main characters back stories, everything this couple go through on their journey to happy ever after; and it's a story I loved every moment of, most especially once the action started and Jesse's team are in action and strategizing what they're going to do to get the upper hand against the terrorists. Will their plans come to fruition or will they have to work on the fly to combat any problems they face? Moreover, both the main characters made this story fascinating with their back stories and how the heroine challenges Jesse because of their chemistry and the fact that Lanie doesn't need a man to protect her, as she's strong, courageous and has plenty of handy skills to take on bad guys.
While the hero, he's been through a lot in his life. He hasn't been the best father and I liked that he's doing his best to make up for the past. His relationship with his son is complicated, but there's no doubt that Jesse is determined to be there for his son and help his kid combat his troubles. Why is his son acting out? I also liked how protective Jesse is of the heroine, even though she doesn't need to be protected. Not with her ability to think and act quick, which is proven by what she does to help the team win the battle they face against the terrorists. I also liked how tight of a bond the hero shares with his teammates and that he would do anything to keep them safe, which is proven over and over again. Yet, what I liked most of all about the hero is that he gave the heroine a chance, even if he's not great at relationships. Then again, it's palpable he's always had feelings for Lanie for almost as long as he's known her.
Overall, Ms. Burrows has delivered a story that kept me entertained from start to finish with its action; wonderful main characters and dialogue; and an ending that has me looking forward to what comes next for HORNET. Will the team be able to help one of the secondary characters that is now on the run? I would recommend Code of Honor by Tonya Burrows, if you enjoy romantic suspense, the friends to lovers trope, or books by authors Lynn Raye Harris, Kaylea Cross, Laura Griffin and April Hunt.
Hornet is back! Tonya Burrows delivers another pulse pounding, adrenaline filled roller coaster ride of suspense and romance in Code of Honor and believe me dear reader this is one ride you do not want to miss.
Fair warning, take a deep breath before you start this book because it will be the last full breath you take till you finish. The action starts immediately and does not stop till you turn the last page drained (good drained) and so ready for the next Hornet book.
NEVER think for an instant that this story will go where you expect it to, NEVER! That’s one of the things I loved about this book to be honest. Just when you thought there was a chance that you can catch your breath, BAM, something new happens and you are off an running again.
I’m going to stay as spoiler free as possible as this is very much a story you need to experience. But what I will say is that be prepared to FEEL ALL THE FEELS. My emotions were dragged all over the place and I am so not sorry for it. I’m not kidding here, one minute you will be swooning, the next holding your breath, then laughing and even shedding a tear or ten over certain events.
Jesse, the team’s medic and hero of this story just about broke my heart more than once while reading this book. This is a man with demons riding his tail and seeing him face his demons while fighting a losing battle over falling for Lanie and saving the day is something that is truly special.
As for Lanie, I love her. Seriously, she is kick ass awesome and watching her come into her true potential in this book just made me love her almost as much as Jesse does. Seeing her fall for Jesse while kicking tango’s ass, priceless.
For fans of the series, yes the other Hornet guys are there. Especially Jean-Luc who just about steals the show for a time. Man I can’t wait to see the crazy Cajun fall. Plus there are more than a couple surprises to keep long term readers happy. But my lips are sealed over what. You need to read it to find out.
That said, while this is part of a series, it can totally be read as a stand-alone. Just be warned that you might become hooked and want to gobble up the other books in the series. Which I for one highly recommend.
Well done Tonya Burrows on another unputdownable Hornet book, one that I’m still processing hours after I finished it, because so much happens that you can’t help but keep thinking of things. Well played, very well played.
Code of Honor is the fourth book in the exciting HORNET series by Tonya Burrows. An action packed, romantic suspense that you won't want to miss! With the unique storyline, complex characters, hilarious banter, mystery, intense situations, danger, and intriguing twists, this emotional roller-coaster of a story will have you turning the pages faster to see what happens next. This was a fantastic book, and a great addition to this terrific series.
I have to admit that I was confused for the first few chapters while trying to remember the characters from the previous books, and overall what HORNET is about. It's been 2+ years since the last book was released in this series, and without any type of recap, it was difficult to just jump right into the story. However, since this had been one of my favorite series, I knew that it would be worth it, and I was right.
Jessie and Lanie have complicated past that neither are over as much as they thought they were. He's been fighting his demons, she's been fighting to find her place on the team, but neither are sure where that leaves them.
After a routine training mission with the current trainees, they're all scheduled for a relaxing week at their bosses resort, until they become mixed up in a hostage situation. Some wounded, others are locked down with no way out, a few are held as hostages, but the rest are trying to figure out how to save them all with no weapons or backup. Can Jessie, Lanie, and the rest find a way to get Jessie's son, their teammates, the trainees, and the rest of the hostages out of this epic mess? Will Jessie be able to get over his fears and panic attacks in order to make sure that they all survive? Will the guys learn to trust that Lanie can handle herself, and accept her as a part of the team? Can Jessie and Lanie find a way to make it work between them, while both being on the team? If they can survive the attack on the resort, will they get the HEA they deserve?
This is a great series by one of my favorite authors and I really enjoyed getting to read about all of the characters again. If you haven't read it, I would suggest that you start from the beginning. You'll get to read fantastic stories, learn about each couple, the dynamics of HORNET, and the team. You won't be disappointed.
I highly recommend this book, series, and terrific author.
I have voluntarily reviewed this arc provided by the publisher via NetGalley.
Code of Honor by Tonya Burrows is a romance in an action-packed, thrilling roller coaster ride. All the guys and gal are on board along for this book having been part of a training mission early in the story. These are not perfect warriors but living and breathing heroes with regrets, relationship struggles, doubts and unrequited feelings that have lingered for years. The two main characters of this book, Jesse and Lanie have their own unique struggles that enter into their relationship.
The crisis is unique in that it is not a planned mission but one that unexpectantly must be handled. Having few resources do not stop this group nor do they consider walking away. This is one of the strengths of this book, that the suspense and danger make it such a compelling read. I read wanting to see how the HORNETs would pull this off and save the day. The second chance romance was hot, with me hoping Jesse and Lanie would work through their issues. However, it is exciting plot of good guys trying to stop the bad guys that make this a great story.
My only regret is that I started this series with Code of Honor. I think I would enjoy this one even more if I had read the books in order, but that is on me not the author.
An ARC of the book was given to me by the publisher through Net Galley.
Jesse Wawick is HORNET's medic, but has become the leader of this group because two of the more senior members are still recovering from injuries. This isn't something Jesse is comfortable with because he's battling his own demons and is second guessing himself. Lani, however, is the only female in the group and is a take charge, kick ass, member. There is a history between Jesse and Lani. I may be in the minority, but I didn't feel the connection between them. Or maybe the push/pull watered it down?
There is some good action within the book. HORNET finished their training exercise with the new recruits and were going to spend some time chilling and enjoying the beach at Martinique. While there they happen to be at the same hotel as the infectious diseases summit where 2 scientists who have created a vaccine to cure many hard to cure viruses are to attend. However, someone else knows it's been completed and wants it. Wants it enough to attempt kidnapping the scientist. HORNET just happens to be there when this all goes down.
Because of the length between the release of Broken Honor and Code of Honor I had a hard time remembering the previous stories and how those couples came to be. The time between books was just too long for me.
Jesse is the medic for the Hornet Team who is finding it harder to believe that he is helping others when all he sees is more death and destruction everywhere he turns. He is also trying to form a relationship with his son, since his ex dropped him off saying he was too difficult, although they haven’t spent much time together.
Lanie was a Texas Ranger but she is tired of how the rules and regulations seem to help the guilty and not their victims. She is hoping that Hornet is a better match however becoming part of the team is proving more difficult than she imagined.
Lanie and Jessie have been friends for years but their attraction to each other is something neither wants or is ready for especially as they are working together. When danger strikes will they and the team be able to work together to bring the crisis to a peaceful end with no casualties?
This story had a chemistry between the two characters, a few twists and a suspenseful storyline. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Jesse is the medic on the HORNET team and is always looking after everyone but himself. He is trying to connect with his estranged teenage son by taking him to his ranch, which is located beside the HORNET training centre. Lanie is Jesse's little sister's best friend and is also the newest and only female member of the HORNET team. The sparks have always flown between them, only now they are becoming stronger and they cannot resist each other. After a training session, the team goes on a holiday ... only to find the hotel they are staying at becomes the scene of a hostage situation. 2 female doctors that invented a breakthrough medication that will change lives .... and there are bad people who want it. Jesse and Lanie must work with half of the team to free the rest of their team and other hostages.
This book is fast paced, suspenseful, romantic, steamy and sad ... yeah pretty much all the emotions are in this book. The next book (I presume) is also set up nicely at the end of this book. If you are looking for an action packed romance ... then this is the book to read!
I received an ARC copy courtesy of Entangled Publishing through NetGalley in exchange for a honest review.
