An introduction to a series

Jericho is a burned out NYPD homicide detective who is now a detective in the Hamptons. Susannah is a dance teacher who is married to Burt, an abusive real estate developer. When she reports Burt as missing Jericho is assigned the case. The novel is a sort of procedural and deals with various characters in different chapters. It also serves as the introduction of a new series featuring Jericho as the protagonist. Thanks to the author and publisher for an e-galley for an honest review.

Not my cup of tea, sorry. It is so against my liking I didn't want to read any more of it. Not to sound prudish but I can't enjoy the opening and it didn't have enough of a "hook" for me to continue.

I just don't like the opening and didn't want to continue. I prefer a better opening and didn't like where this as going.

I love a good series therefore I was hopefully when I stumbled on to this. Unfortunately it didn’t work for me. The writing was almost scripted for a young adult. The characters lacked depth; they were all almost unlikable. And the character Jessie was ridiculous. Flying around trying to take naked photos of women. Sorry, huge turn off there.

Death Hampton, Introducing Detective Jenrico, Book 1 in The Detective Jericho Series, is the second book in the series that I gave read. The first book in the series that I read was Book 2, The Battle of Jericho. Death Hampton, Introducing Detective Jenrico was an exciting read, the promising beginning for a new detective series. The opening scene, where a stocking masked man appears to have broken into a woman’s home and is about to rape her in her own bed, grabs the reader’s attention. We soon discover that the rapist is the woman’s husband playing one of his twisted sex games with her. But what appeared to be a rape wasn’t all that far from the reality of what was to come.

The husband is demented and hires a professional killer, a man called “Mort”, to kill his wife and make it look like an accident. Susanna, his wife, over hears this when her husband leaves his phone on during their negotiations. She turns the tables on him. This book has hired killers, blackmailers and shady lawyers. It’s a real page turner and keeps the reader turning the pages until the very end. All the characters are well developed and so like real people that the temporary suspension of disbelief is natural. The story so realistic that it could have been taken from yesterday’s headlines.

On the whole, this story does come to a satisfying conclusion, but the author does leave us hanging on a few points. What happened with the developing love relationship between Jericho and Susanna? Did the shrink give him a clean bill of health so he could return to active duty? There were a few technical errors as well, like calling a semiautomatic pistol an automatic pistol. That one jumped out at me and hit me in the face because I’m a gun person. Taking all those things into consideration, this is still a book I would/will read again.

Author Walter Marks has created some great characters in this book for us to learn about. First, and most important, is Detective Neil Jericho, a cop with a past, a five-year-old daughter, and an ex-wife. He moved to the Hamptons to be closer to his daughter and to get away from the stress of police work in the big city. His ex has remarried and his daughter wants to know if it's okay to call her step-father Daddy. Daughter Katie plays a small but endearing part in this book, probably the most lovable character in it. Then we have Katie's dance teacher. We learn quite a lot about the dance teacher, not all of it good. The finale of the book builds up to a big climax, one that I liked and I think you will too.

Death Hamlton

This is a strange mystery. A multi millionaire in his fifties married girls in their twenties who need sugar daddies then he murders them. He hires a hit man to have his wife killed. in the meantime along comes a rapest who wants to blackmail the wife because he had pictures of her killing her husband or so he thought. The rapest ends up being killed. Did the wife really kill the husband? Read the book to find out.

An excellent mystery with an interesting plot and well-developed characters. Although Jericho does act out of character at the end which made me wonder about the rest of the series, for which he is the main hero. Although it is possible, that one poor woman can be the victim of so many calamities and have so many lucky breaks, can only be in a book. The story has so many twists and turns that you stay hooked from page 1.

'Death Hampton' pulled me in from the start and didn't let go. The story line was well written and played out well. Full of mystery, action and great characters. I look forward to reading more. A good add to your tbr list. The only thing I didn't like was how Jericho's morals kind of slipped at the end. Not to give anything away, but it didn't fit.

Due to job burnout and that his daughter has moved to East Hampton, Detective Neil Jericho transfers from East Harlem. But several mysterious disappearances means that Jericho has new cases to investigate.
I enjoyed this story which kept my interest to the end and so is a good start to the series.

Death Hampton

Very interesting and entertaining storyline about a police detective, mysterious disappearances that could be murders, and the investigation into solving them. The private lives of the characters adds interest to the story.

Good

I liked the story and the characters were interesting. The one thing I wished was different , was how it ended. I would have like it to explain more about what the two main characters were going to do.

Good Good mystery

I really liked this book. I had it figured out early on how the murderer would get away with it but then I changed my mind and then something else happened to lead me in a different direction. Great way to spend the afternoon. I will read more.

I really enjoyed this novel. The only reason I gave it a 4 is because it was beyond predictable. Story about a woman who marries a wealthy man who turns out to be a real jerk. There is murder and drama and romance.

I enjoy the plot and mystery in this series, as well as the locale (I like reading books that take place in areas that I am familiar with, or ones that are realistically described that I am not as familiar with) but heroes that have too many flaws do not appeal to me.

Good beginning to a new series. Life in the Hamptons is not as glamorous as some people would have you believe. Missing husband, assumed dead, missing man who turns out to be a rapist and a hired killer all converge for an interesting story.

Almost a winner

Excellent writing, good dialogue and believable characters, but if you're going to write about firearms, have at least a BASIC knowledge...a 50mm Glock? That would fire a 2" diameter bullet...

This is the first of a series.
I thought it was a little jumbled, but the writing was sufficient to keep me reading and learning about Detective Jericho.
I have a few of the rest of the series TBR and will more than likely read the next in a month or two.

Interesting. Lots of plot twists with an unusual ending. There were several flaws in different characters actions which made some of what happened a bit unbelievable. That said, it was a good story and I will read the next book in the series soon.

I liked the character, Jericho, a detective who had moved to be near his young daughter. He was divorced and his ex wife had remarried, but he loved Katie. I liked the suspense and twists, making me think about what would happen next.

One spooky thriller, haunting

A viscous out-of-control maniacal husband sets off on a plot of murder, revenge and life ever after. Incredibly well written.
