EVERYONE WANTS TO BE SOMEONE.

Layla Harrison wants to leave her beach-bum days for digs behind a reporter’s desk. Aster Amirpour wants to scream at the next casting director who tells her “we need ethnic but not your kind of ethnic.” Tommy Phillips dreams of buying a twelve-string guitar and using it to shred his way back into his famous absentee dad’s life.

This felt like one of those books I have loved since middle school; Gossip Girl, Private, and pretty much anything by Sara Shepard. It had that fun beach read sort of feel and hit that guilty pleasure part of my brain.

Unrivaled begins with a prologue that features the main mystery of our story, the disappearance of Madison Brooks. It then backtracks to a month earlier where we first meet each individual character. The story is told in third person from the perspective of each of the main cha

“The general rule in Hollywood was that you were only as good as your last project.”

This was a YA contemporary story set in Hollywood.

I had a bit of a hard time keeping track of which character was which in this book, but I did get it eventually. Layla was a wannabe reporter, desperate to make it and to make her blog a hit. Aster wanted to be an actress, and to not get m

This book just wasn't for me. For the most part, there wasn't really anything "wrong" with it but it just wasn't that great. The concept was cool but I felt like the writing style was lacking something. I can't really think of what it was lacking but it was just... plain.
I was pretty disappointed in the characters. They didn't have a lot of depth and, like the writing style, plain. To be honest, after page 13, I wasn't into this book at all. Layla was the first character we meet and sh

5 Words: Fame, money, family, relationships, mystery.

So, I read this in one sitting. I picked it up and that was me. Lost. Gone.

And that hasn't happened in a while.

I think this book was exactly what I needed. It's fun and flirty and full of Pretty Young Things and just a little bit trashy.

The thing I loved the most about this book was the blend of Young Hollywood and mystery. Not all of the characters were Poor Little Rich Folk, there was a refreshing blend of circumstances and a hefty dose of c

I have such mixed feelings about this book. I liked it, but I didn't really like it at the same time. I feel like this book is getting a lot of bad ratings + reviews for one reason: it's marketed wrong and the description of the book is not really what this book is about. This book is marketed as a "thrilling suspense" when really it's a contemporary novel set in Hollywood with some scandal and blackmail thrown in, and then at the very end (the last 50 pages) it sort of becomes a thriller.

A fun, easy and quick read.
To be honest, the majority of this book was relatively uneventful. The first 60% or so was mostly introducing the characters and the 'Unrivaled' Nightlife competition. Although not a lot happened, it wasn't tedious, since it read so easily. I will say it felt a little as though the book had been cut in half. It seemed to finish just as it was about to get exciting/interesting. It was a good set up for the series to come and did leave me wanting more. I'm sure I wi

MORE? MORE! @ P.S. I love that book!

I received a copy of this book from the publishers in exchange for an honest review! Was really excited to read it as blurb sounded really promising!
Also today is the publication day of this book, so whoop whoop happy book birthday!

Layla Harrison could not stop fidgeting.

Sigh.

I’m was actually very exciting for Unrivaled when I came across it at the Indigo Summer Preview Event. I haven’t read any of Alyson Noel’s other books but the synopsis and promise of suspense and mystery sold me. I’m still on the fence on how many stars I want to give this, it’s a tie between 2.5 stars and 3 stars. In all honesty I almost DNF this about 5 times, but I was determined to finish it. I assumed that maybe the

Cheesy and completely implausible but enjoyable in an airbrushed US Weekly kind of way. If you love the idea of an over-the-top reality show set in Hollywood, you might like this too.

The premise is a competition about club promotion (not quite as boring as it sounds) in which a group of eighteen year-old Hollywood wannabes is gathered together by a rich guy who owns a string of hot Hollywood clubs. In reality TV format, they battle it out to lure the most celebrities (and patrons) to their assig

ORIGINALLY POSTED: https://bibliomantics.com/2018/03/18/...

The first book in Alyson Noel’s Beautiful Idols series — the only one with a good cover might I add — is basically Gossip Girl, but set in Los Angeles (which is not a dig at all). While Unrivaled still has the fun and frothy backstabbing you look for in all your teen dramas, it is sadly lacking in fun fashion because almost everyone is poor.

Really REALLY enjoyed this in a bang on, bright and bubbly way. Like Pretty little Liars meets Gossip Girl with a glossy engaging cast, a bit of mystery and a lot of life. Full review to follow.

Also big book love for Tommy. And his guitar.

What do you get when you have a town full of wannabe celebrities? Ones that are willing to do anything to get their shot at fame which could lead to bigger and better things? For a group of five, they will do anything that they can. Ira Redman is the man to have an "in" with when it comes to Hollywood and LA. He is also the owner of several clubs and has a competition to help promote his clubs, kind of similar to Donald Trump's The Apprentice show. Here we meet Layla, Tommy, and Aster. Layla is ...more

I received a free advanced copy from the publishers via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

In Hollywood, nothing is ever as it seems – not even the glamorous night life. When the biggest head of the LA club world announces a competition with a prize too good to pass up, many dreams and hidden desires find an opportunity to be unveiled, if only they are good enough to win, of course. In spite of seeing quite a few rant reviews on Unrivaled (as well as some gushing ones), I was ultimately intrigued by the synopsis, so I decided to give it a go. California? Models? Mystery? What could be better?

Unfortunately, as with many of my reads lately, this one didn't particularly meet my expectations. I found it to be rather long and boring with many undeveloped characters.

For a brief summary, Unrivaled revolves around models Layla, Aster, Tommy, and Madison, who is the most well-known

Ive read this book with some interruptions and I must admit that at first I wasn't really enjoying it, but it turned out to be much more than what I've expected!

Ive read a comment that said that this book was very similar to PLL, and even tough, yes I like PLL, those who see the TV show have to agree that it has became kind of annoying with twists after twists, lies after lies, people who aren't who they claim to be...

But no, this books turned out to not have those no-go contents. Of course, it

That's a joke, right?

Vanity, hate, envy and a game not everyone is able to play or to understand – thats what Unrivaled is about.

A novel with a lot of unexpected twists and turns and characters who are as naïve as they are smart. This first book of the authors new Beautiful Idols series doesnt only come with a beautiful minimalistic cover design but an entertaining story, too.

This book caught my attention when I was searching for the upcoming new programs the publishers were sending out toward

“Just how far will you go, to get what you want?”

We absolutely love this Author and have a soft spot for her from our memory of inhaling her Evermore series years ago during our paranormal binge. So when we saw Alyson Noël had a new series out, we grabbed Unrivaled. This is book one in the Beautiful Idols series and it could not have been any more different to what we were expecting, whilst this deflated us a wee bit it did not mean we didn’t enjoy it for what it was. This book combined sultry, sweet, spicy, and everything else I love in a good novel. It had the typical teen drama with gossip, adventure, suspense, murder, and mystery. It was anything and everything I look for in a book. I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I bought this book without knowing what it was about, and that just made it better. It fit in perfectly with my current trend of Pretty Little Liars, and Gossip Girl. If you like those TV shows, or practically anything written by Sara S ...more

*Sigh.* How do I start?

This was the first ARC I ever received and I was actually excited to read this. I'll be honest; I am not even sure if I can do a full review for this book. I'd been trying to read this thrice already for almost a year now but I don't think this genre is my cup of tea.

During the first part of the story, which was the introduction of the characters, it was really interesting. I'd been wondering how this book

I was a huge fan of Noel's Evermore series, so you can imagine I have been very happy to hear that there will be a new book. And I needed to get my hands on this. I am not going to lie, the first 20% have been rather slow, but stay with it. This book is a grower. Its as if it gets over the hill and then speeds up faster and faster. Because as you read along it just gets better and better.

The first 20% however only seem slow, because there is so many characters to meet. Ira is rich, fam

In terms of quality, Unrivaled is leaps and bounds better than two other series starters she's written, Evermore and Fated. I'm honestly surprised this is the one I'm DNFing, but the characters are weak, said characters have no development after 200 pages, the pacing is incredibly slow, and it's simply too long.

400-something page books don't intimidate me, but this is a book that should be 350 pages or so and see the inciting incident--Madison's disappearance--happen earlier. I was 51% in when

Unrivaled is the first of three installments in author Alyson Noel's Young Adult Mystery series called Beautiful Idols. Beautiful Idols has FOUR main characters.
