A sudden death snatches Micaela out of her senior-year-state-of-mind in sunny Florida, to slap her down in the sleepy little hollow of her past. Never popular with the locals, the eerily empty station is exactly the homecoming she expected. Her mother’s beliefs had always deviated from popular opinion, ostracizing Micaela by association. Perhaps Mami could be a bit peculiar, but for the town’s people to be personally offended by her claim to be a direct descendant of Washington Irving is prepost ...more

“I need to know what was so important about it that she couldn’t move to Miami with me and my dad. There’s forces not letting me leave until I do.”

This was an okay story, but it struggled to hold my interest.

I felt quite sorry for Mica in this, having lost her mother so suddenly and then being haunted by apparitions. She didn’t have the best taste in men thou

I really enjoyed this book that was kind of a new take on the whole Headless Horseman and Sleepy Hollow story by Washington Irving. Also a look at the author, Irving, and his history. This is the kind of story that grabs me and makes me want to look more into the actual history and any of the theories that were put forth.

The main character is Mica Burgos. She spent the first 12 years of her life living in Sleepy Hollow with her parents. Her mother was k

After six years Micaela Burgos is now returning to the town of Sleepy Hollow after she received news of her mother's death. Mica had chosen to leave the town and live with her father in Miami when her mother became obsessed with history and ignoring her daughter when Mica was only twelve and needed a parent in her life that paid attention to her.

The town of Sleepy Hollow was made immortal by literature but it's a very real place that has Mica drawn into figuring out just what her mother had bee

I really enjoyed this book! I grew up in New York, so I vaguely remember hearing The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, but I wasn't really an enthusiast. I think this book would appeal to people who like Sleepy Hollow lore but it's fine for newbies as well. It's a really well-researched ghost story/mystery with interesting bits of history too. But don't take that to mean it wasn't fast-paced. By the end, I was rushing to get to the ending.

Wake the Hollow was everything that I wanted in a “Sleepy Hollow”-inspired book. I was one of the kids that enjoyed being forced to read the story of the headless horseman in elementary school around Halloween and knew I had to read this book.

You guys, Sleepy Hollow is a real place! I’m not sure why it never dawned on me to look it up and see if

I thought this book would grab me like Sleepy Hallow the TV show did. I felt it was a good book but I was not as captivated as I was with the TV show. Mica does not want to go home but return home. I was confused a bit in the beginning. For me, the story took a while to build up. I think I just expected more from this book and these characters. I think the book was well written but I wanted more. The story did not grab me right at the beginning as I thought it would when I decided to read this b ...more

It should be known, first and foremost, that I'm a sucker for anything related to Sleepy Hollow. I grew up addicted to the wonderfully chilling story of Ichabod Crane and the Headless Horseman. So it's no surprise that when Gaby Triana's book made its way onto my radar, I snatched it up without hesitation. Sleepy Hollow is steeped in such rich lore. I had high hopes that Triana would put her own spin on it. Spoiler alert: I was right.

First off, I loved that this book wasn't simply a retelling of

As a reader , you learn to discover topics and themes that will become favourites to read about - no matter what the setting of the book is. One of my favourite things is "Sleepy Hollow". I love the legend and any books that have the slightest hint of a rendition or about the characters of Sleepy Hollow - I will read. Hence my reading of Wake the Hollow by Gaby Triana. Micaela has just come back home after moving away years ago to live with her father in Miami when her parents separated as her m ...more

Micaela's mother passed away and the circumstances of her death are suspicious. After receiving a short note from her mother, which was a cry for help that came too late, Mica returns to the place she grew up in, Sleepy Hollow. The town is famous because of the classic by Washington Irving and the stories about his life are still very much on everyone's mind. Her mother was obsessed with the past and Mica doesn't feel welcome in the town. Her mother was strange and the town's inhabitants accused ...more

So where do I start, how about I read this book from start to finish today. Seriously loved it, it took me a little bit to get into it, but once the story got going I couldn't stop I had to know what was going on.

Mica left Sleepy Hollow with her father and hasn't looked back. Her mother recently died and she has to return to the town and people she left far behind. Her mom was a researcher. She was obsessed with finding a journal. One that is widely sought after.

I am fortunate to have been provided the opportunity to read an advance copy, and I devoured it. I am more than a "reluctant reader," I have severe dyslexia making reading a grueling task. Only a handful of books can compel me to delve into them. Authors such as Stephen King, Michael Crichton, and JK Rowling have grasped me with their books and taken me into their worlds. Gaby Triana also has that unique quality and pulled me into her story, not kicking-and-screaming, but screaming at the kick o ...more

I can still remember hearing the story of Ichabod Crane and the Headless Horseman as a kid and loving every minute of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Wake the Hollow takes this classic story from American literature and gives it a unique spin with a little bit of history and a whole lotta of mystery.

Six years ago Micaela chose to live with her father in Miami. Because of this choice she had to leave her mother behind. Mica is glad that she left Sleepy Hollow and never really looked back until her mother's death makes her return to find out what truly happened. As soon as Mica steps off the train she gets the feeling she's being watched. Mica hears voices and sees ghosts. The people who live in Sleepy Hollow didn't think much of her mother and they passed that judgment on to Mica, so they ar ...more

I've been looking forward to reading this book for months because, as a child, I was enamoured with The Legend of Sleepy Hollow...yes, the Disney version that played on TV every year around Halloween. I even made time to take Washington Irving's The Legend of Sleepy Hollow off my TBR and on to my Read shelf in preparation.

Gaby Triana's modern retelling and expansion of the classics story grabbed my attention far more than Irving's actual book had, in part because it took the best of the story I

I will say that I have never read The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. All I really knew before going into this book is that it features a creepy headless guy atop a horse. Oh, and that it is a great Halloween story / costume.

But other than that, I can’t compare how the two stories correlate to one another. I can, however, say that this book is creepy and does seem to capture what I believe this retelling should hold.

I loved how the author incorporated Irving (the author of Sleepy Hollow) into her own t

Mystery, romance, and betrayal are depicted wonderfully in WAKE THE HOLLOW. The author, Gaby Triana, demonstrates expert story-weaving skills. Readers will keep turning the pages as the main character, Micaela, uncovers each layer of mystery related to her late mother and the hidden secret of Sleepy Hollow. I highly recommend this book!

Mini review time!

I really liked this book, and if not for a few annoying moments (mostly stemming from the fact that Micaela would be talking to either of her confidants — who would each tell her to not trust the other — and she'd basically be like, 'okay, so I shouldn't, like, trust him? Only you?' It seemed to just go back and forth and she only ended up a nervous wreck with no idea what she should do), I probably would have rated this a five.

I loved the whole idea of merging the story of Sle
