Oh. My. God! This was one of the greatest anthologies I've ever read. I love MM stories! I love Alpha stories! I love shifters! I love assassins! I love HAWT sex! "Bad Alpha: Manlove Edition" has all of that and so much more!
Some of my very favorite authors are included here. In fact, they're ALL some of my favorite authors. Check it out... Nicola Cameron Doris O'Connor L.D. Blakeley Angelique Voisen James Cox Gale Stanley Elizabeth Monvey
You just know that it's going to be good! I'm not going to go into the ins and outs of every story. I'll just say that every one of them is just about perfect. I was completely captivated. In fact, I read this whole book in one sitting. Granted, it was a four hour sitting, but I just couldn't put it down. I kept saying to myself, "Just one more, and I'll go to sleep." I never went to sleep :-)
All of the characters are vibrant, and all of the stories are exciting. You can guess from the title that they're anything but tender and sweet, and yet...there is something beautiful and romantic about that. I love primal MM love scenes...teeth and tongues clashing, hair being tugged, sweaty bodies grinding. It's funny, actually, because if you'd have told me a year ago that I'd be reading MM almost exclusively, I would have thought you were crazy. I've discovered some really great stuff out there, and as I said before, these particular authors have grabbed, and kept my attention.
Treat yourself to this anthology. You won't be sorry, I promise!
Great collection of hot, sexy shifter stories! They may be short, but they all have well-developed plots and interesting characters. I enjoyed them all, but Yellow Eyes was my favorite. Gale Stanley knows how to torture a character so you gotta keep reading to find out if he gets a happy ending. Recommended.
Hot Alpha Shifters - another favorite! Since the last ManLove anthology from Evernight [Men in Uniform], I couldn't wait to read the next one. It was through my familiarity with Gale Stanley's work that I even went for the previous read and found some new favorites to read (e.g., James Cox). So of course, when I saw that Stanley and Cox were both included in this anthology, let's say that I had high expectations and every one of them were met.
This book is all about alpha shifters who find their mates. So the romantic endings I expected already won me over right there. Every story was fresh and well-told with developed characters packed tight with zero margin for error. In other words, every part of the story forwarded the plot and pulled you right into the character. Once I began the read, only the call of some shut-eye drew me away. I read the rest of the stories as soon as I could the very next day.
BULLY BOYS by Nicola Cameron Story takes place in the UK. A numbers man meets an alpha wolf who is defending his territory by an encroaching rival pack. Of course, love is no obstacle--no, not for a man with administrative talents matched with a physically aggressive macho man. A sweet match between a guy in a suit and a guy from the ghetto.
THE ALPHA'S ASSASSIN by Doris O'Connor So, this orphan whose occupation as a hired gun has been employed to take down the alpha. His job clashes with his heart when of all people he meets his mate. Both of them are confused because they're not of the same kind. Anyone up for interspecies dating? Edge of my seat - part suspense, part romance, part mystery.
DISCARDED PUP by Angelique Voisen An alpha wolf takes the wrap for a crime committed by his beta so he could protect his spineless pack. It's release day, time for retribution. Meanwhile, the beta who has taken charge as the cruel default alpha hasn't deviated from his violent ways. His latest victim? Hmm, could that be the true alpha's mate? The future is bright.
YELLOW EYES by Gale Stanley A half-breed has hidden in the shadows of human society far too long. An unexpected death sends him to the other side to explore his other half. None other than an alpha finds him... Heart-tugging story of self-love and acceptance with a big dose of hope for coexistence.
DESTINED by L.D. Blakely Betrayed by an ex, Caleb tries to drink his woes away. Only he's quite sure the terror he witnesses right afterward isn't a dream. The only one who can save him is someone whom he doesn't quite trust... Shaky beginnings, sweet ending.
TROUBLE by James Cox Kicked out (okay, chased out) of most packs for his philandering ways, Tremarc is the last of his particular species of shifter. He's sleeping around trying to figure things out and lands a one-way ticket to the moon, where he meets an alpha named Lyon and his mate Quinn. Little did the three know what Lyon's dreams had in store for them. Seductive M/M/M fantasy come to life.
OUTLAW WOLF by Elizabeth Monvey Dekker is a runaway who chose to do so; he left his mate to protect him and the pack. For six months he'd been successful making a life for himself -- or so he thought -- until his alpha shows up to claim him back. All hell breaks loose when old traditions meet new truths, truths that will set them free. A story of second chances and fresh pathways forward.
Overall, a winning collection of short stories from authors that are old and now new favorites. Go ahead and treat yourself GOOD with some BAD alphas. :-)
So much sexy man on hot man action. I need more of books like this. There were so many different takes on M/M that anyone who reads the books is bound to find something to love here. Every last one of these reads gave me something to remember, but my favorite was Doris O'Connor's The Alpha's Assassin. Zayden has to be one of the sexiest bear shifter's I've read about in a long time. He was big, growly, overprotective and willing to die for his mate. What more could you ask for? If you are a fan of M/M books then this is a good anthology to sink your teeth into.
Each and every one of these stories was extremely well written and entertaining. Although each was written separately , they all held many things in common, which you could see throughout the entire book.....love, devotion and the understanding that true love can be found between two of the same sex . Each author did an amazing job and I would recommend it to anyone who is open minded enough to appreciate a good love story with, let's face it, hot sex thrown in. Who doesn't enjoy that?
Bully Boys by Nicola Cameron - 3.5 stars I felt but line I was thrown into the middle of a story with this one. While we got to know a bit about one main character, we didn't really know much about the history of the shifters. It took me a good bit to realize that the story was indeed in the past, not present.
While the plot was actually good, I wish we'd gotten to know more about the pack. Then there was the whole being gay side of things. Had the characters been with other people or had they been gay before each other?
At the end of the story I felt like a lot was left unanswered and it could've been expanded out to a much longer story that was much more captivating as we got to learn about such a protective and amazing alpha.
The Alpha's Assassin by Doris O'Connor - 4.5 Stars
I really enjoyed this story. It was a bit scary at times, but super sexy and amazingly written at the same time. I couldn't get through it fast enough. I wanted to know what was going to happen with Quinton since he was supposed to be the one who took him out.
Discarded Pup by Angelique Voisen - 5 Stars
I think this was my favorite of the anthology or at least one of them. I loved the danger Cole radiated and the fear we felt from River as we waited to find out what Cole was going to do with him. It was hot, fast and I read it as quick as I could wanting to know how things turned out!
Yellow Eyes by Gale Stanley - 4 Stars
This was in a different time than the others and there were times where I didn't understand what had happened or that the shifters lived in a different part of the town than the others. However, I did like the beginning as we learned about this big strong man, however, as the book moved on, he turned into more of a weakling. However, other than that it was a good story.
Destined by L.D. Blakeley - 5 Stars
I found this story to have some funny bits (hello bar scene), but it was all so well written and had me wishing I could have a car to hide under (and yes, I was thinking it was Marick that had done the killing.
Great story that I wished was longer!
Trouble by James Cox - 5 Stars
Oh yes, yes, yes... A male threesome! And some humor thrown in too. I loved the opening scene even if our main character is a bit of a slut (or a lot of one), but I liked the way the other two men wrangled him in and came together as a hot as sin threesome. Very well written that it didn't even seem odd to be off planet.
Outlaw Wolf by Elizabeth Monvey - 5 Stars
This was probably one of the more painful stories to read for me. It was sad to see that these two men had loved each other but couldn't be together due to prejudice. There was hate and anger that they had to deal with but in the end it was an excellent story that I LOVED the ending of.
I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Inked Rainbow Reads.

I am not a fan of anthologies because usually I feel lost reading them... they are either a novella from a series or not developed properly.
With that being said I enjoyed this book, I think having the stories be M/M paranormal helped it move along quicker. Each story provided me with a different type of sub-genres; I think this is a great way to give readers a peak at some amazing writers.
I enjoyed all the stories and liked all of the characters. I usually don't like historical/old world stories but I did enjoy “Bully Boys” by author Nicola Cameron. I won't give you spoilers but if you enjoy paranormal Manlove books then you will get your money's worth from this anthology. My favorite story was “The Alpha’s Assassin” by author Doris O'Connor I loved Quinton and Zayden. I am definitely interested in reading more from the featured authors of this book.
Discarded Pup by Angelique Voisen makes me want to buy everything she’s ever written; her characters are HOT and sexy.
Yellow Eyes by Gale Stanley I enjoyed this story but did find some story flow issues and had to read certain sections again to make sure I understood what the author wanted to tell me as a reader.
Destined by L.D. Blakeley this story was great and very well written, looking to read more from this author.
Troubles by James Cox this story was hot and let’s face it who doesn't love a threesome, I know I do.
Outlaw Wolf by Elizabeth Monvey this story provided us with many emotions and I was amazed that author Elizabeth Monvey was able to pack the story with so much and in such a small work count.
I give this book 4 diamonds for thoroughly entertaining me on my bus ride to New York... Get your copy today I promise you won't be disappointed
A killer for hire, that’s what Zayden is. He doesn’t discriminate on who or what he kills. After a fight one night he is approached by a man who is hiding his identity. He wants his Alpha killed and he wants Zayden to do it. When Zayden comes face to face with his target he knows immediately that he can’t kill Quinton, they are mates. Now what is he going to do. The attraction is immediate for Quinton. He knows not everyone in his pack approves of his lifestyle so mating Zayden, a male, isn’t going to go over very well. But true love is more important and he will do whatever he needs to protect what’s his. When Zayden comes clean and tells Quinton the real reason he came to town they know there is a traitor in the pack. Now they just need to find the threat and eliminate it. Love is all that matters.
These seven stories truly run the gamut: from parallel reality where weres live among us in secret, to alternate reality where weres and humans coexist - unpeacefully - in a war torn land, to futuristic worlds where werebears make up some of the colonized moon's population.
There remains one constant thread throughout each story: an über hot, gay alpha-were finding his life mate and fighting adversity to take what's his, by right.
This was a very enjoyable and spicy-hot collection. Among my favorites were Gale Stanley's 'Yellow Eyes', about a lost, young half-breed finding himself and coming to terms with his were side, and Doris O'Connor's 'The Alpha's Assassin' about two alphas - a bear and a wolf - who fall for each other under the most unlikely conditions.
If you like your Alphas gruff, growly, snarly and super hot you need to read this anthology. Each story was so different from all the others and yet they all took you into the world of an uber alpha meeting his mate. I loved the variety of settings and shifters.
This anthology of short stories by a collection of authors had me hooked. Raw and bad to the core ManLove. Gripping, ripping and salivatingly HOT! What more can I say. Go and purchase your own copy. I'm definitely keeping mine!
I liked some stories more than others but overall, I enjoyed this anthology. My thoughts on each story are below.
Bully Boys: I liked this one a lot. I wasn't sure where it was going at first but, boy, did I like where it went. I liked that it was set in historical London. Arthur's fear when Gunner suggested that he desired men was real and I liked how Arthur's body betrayed him. It was good for Arthur to see firsthand how Gunner cares for his packmates. I can't blame him for falling for Gunner. Who wouldn't?
The Alpha's Assassin: Had potential but fell a little flat for me. I liked the plot but just didn't really connect with Zayden and Quin and everything seemed to resolve way too quickly with no real explanation.
Discarded Pup: This was really good and my original review still applies. Jonah is such a POS. What he did to Cole, the pack and River was horrible. I wanted Cole to rip him to shreds and claim River as his own. It was great when he finally did (claim him, that is). I especially liked how he treated River the next morning.
Yellow Eyes: I felt bad for Camden. Being a half-breed, he was shunned by humans and hated wolves for what they did to his mom. Once she was gone, he found himself lost. Fortunately, Wyat stumbled onto him. I liked that Wyat went after Camden and showed him how to accept his wolf side.
Destined: This was my favorite story. I loved the mix of mild scariness, humor, craziness, sexy and sweet. Caleb was cute and pretty funny. His comments and reactions had me giggling. I didn't like how Marick treated him at first but he quickly redeemed himself and I ended up loving him just as much as I loved Caleb. I'd love to read more of these guys.
Trouble: Trouble was the perfect word for Tremarc. He'd been forced out of almost every bear clan and finally ended up being sent to the moon. If not for Quinn, Alpha Lyon would have tossed him out before they ever realized that they were mated. This was a fun read, especially the scene where Tremarc was spying on Lyon and Quinn having sex.
Outlaw Wolf: This one broke my heart, at first. I hated that Dekker felt he had to run away from Grey to protect him from the pack members who refused to follow a gay Alpha. And when Stones beat Dekker, I was furious. I wanted Grey to tear him limb from limb. I loved how Grey watched over Dekker as he healed and finally claimed him as his mate. And I really enjoyed the scene when they returned to the pack and faced off against Stones.
ORIGINAL REVIEW: 2 down and liking what I'm reading
Destined: Oh wow. That was really good. A mix of mildly scary, crazy, sexy and sweet. I could have totally kept reading more of these guys.
Discarded Pup: Just from the title I knew that I would like this. Jonah was such a sniveling good for nothing wannabe. I couldn't wait for Cole to put him in his place and claim River as his own. Even for such a short story, it was really good.
I thoroughly enjoyed this collection of stories. There were plenty of new to me authors and the stories here made me want to explore more of their work. None of these tales disappointed. My only complaint, they were too short.
If I had one wish, it would've been to have a touch more dub-con, but that is just personal preference. Though I have to voice that not all the alphas in these stories are the "Bad Alphas" promoted in the teaser. Average rating is 3.29 for the antho as a whole.
Bully Boys by Nicola Cameron 3.5 stars
The Alpha's Assassin by Doris O'Conner 2.75 stars
Discarded Pup by Angelique Voisen 2.5 stars
Yellow Eyes by Gale Stanley 5 stars
Destined by L.D. Blakeley 1.5 stars
Trouble by James Cox 2.75 stars
Outlaw Wolf by Elizabeth Monvey 5 stars
*Side note: Come on Evernight Publishing, where the hell is the table of contents? If you're reading this on a Kindle and want to hop to a certain story good luck, there are no shortcuts, you better just page flip until your thumb is sore. Poor formatting on the publisher's part.
I had so much fun reading these enthralling short stories. They were all very compelling and filled with danger, action, mating, love, and sizzling heat. They held my attention and kept me highly engaged and entertained. Very enjoyable anthology. =)
This box set is full of shifters, love, betrayal, acceptance, and HEAs. I like the variety that is offered and feel it's a good purchase. If you're looking for quick reads, that are also interesting, hot, and full of love, then hit that one-click button now. Go on, I dare you. LOL
Bully Boys by Nicola Cameron This is a historical romance that brings us the love story of Arthur and Gunner. Arthur is a barrister and all he does is work, work, work. He's basically at the beck and call of his superiors and he answers every time because he wants to make partner in the firm. Of course, he's worried that offer will come with the stipulation of a bride, the oldest daughter of one of the partners.
Gunner is the Alpha of the Black Staffs pack. Gunner works hard to keep everyone in his pack safe and to ensure the Haymaker Gang, run by the Hays family, doesn't overstep the rules. Of course, you know that means they run right over those rules. Only this time, they've gone too far and Gunner needs to take care of it. As Arthur is struggling with his newfound reality, which includes not hiding who he truly is and his new mate, Gunner is showing people why he's the Alpha and that you don't want to cross him.
This story was fascinating and sad at the same time. The historical aspects make you feel for those living through it and sad because Arthur and Gunner know they may face opposition in regards to their mating. But they're up for the challenge. Not to mention, Gunner is like a dog with a bone when he sees something he wants. (Ha, that's an inside joke. Read the story and you'll find out a hilarious fact about their shifting. It was very unique and unexpected. I think my brain even shouted "plot twist." LOL)
The Alpha's Assassin by Doris O'Connor Zayden and Quinton meet and they're both feeling the attraction and the instinctual knowledge that they're mates. HEA ensues. Ha. Come on, you know it can never be that easy. So what's the catch? Oh, it's a big one. It's literally a killer attraction because Zayden, who is for hire for those wishing to make problems disappear, has been tasked with finding Quinton and killing him. Told you it was a big one. Someone in Quinton's pack isn't too keen on his personal preferences and when you factor that in with wanting revenge, well the logical answer is to kill the guy, right? In Zayden's mind, the answer is usually "yes," followed quickly by, "mission completed."
Everything changes though when that mating bond starts up. Now how to break the truth to Quinton, while remaining mated, and eliminating the threat to him. Piece of cake, right? Maybe. I mean, how would you take that kind of news? Buy this box set and find out what happens. I dare you. ;-)
Discarded Pup by Angelique Voisen Cole lost ten years of his life due to jealousy, from his "friend," Jonah and cowardice, from his pack who refused to do the right thing. Cole is sent to prison for raping a woman, when in fact, it was Jonah who did it and everyone knew it, but no one spoke up on Cole's behalf. Now Cole is out and headed straight to River, Jonah's latest plaything.
River is quite literally stuck in hell. He made a deal with the devil to help his brother, Ron. But River survived the change, his brother didn't. So now River is all alone and constantly beaten and used by Jonah. Everyone sees how Jonah treats him, yet no one steps in to help him. Sound familiar? What else might Cole and River have in common? Hmm.
Cole and River meet as Cole makes his way to Jonah's and he smells River's fear. Jonah is beating River and River has had enough. He finally stands up for himself. Yay, River. Unfortunately, that angers Jonah even more and he decides River needs to die. Thank goodness Cole is nearby. Can Cole get his revenge and his mate? Will River stay with Cole now that's he's finally free? You know what to do...exercise that one-click finger.
While I fully intend to finish the remaining stories, I liked what I've read so far. I'm rating this a 4 out of 5 for a couple reasons. First, I like the variety of the stories. Second, I like the uniqueness of what I've read. When you read as much as I do, it's rare to come across a unique aspect in a story. Lastly, sometimes, regardless of how much we wish it wasn't the case, we only have enough free time to read a short story or two. This set delivers that. The stories are short, yet detailed enough so you don't feel cheated, there's sexy times, suspense, and love conquers all. Like The Beatles said, "All You Need Is Love."
Bad Alpha Man Love Edition by authors Nicola Cameron, L.D. Blakely, James Cox, Elizabeth Monvey, Doris O’Connor, Angelique Viosen, and Gale Stanley has a little bit of everything in here. The first story is historical, or rather I think it is …never really says but reads like a turn of the century story. Bully Boys by Nicola Cameron, this one is the only one I felt was really well done but did not fit with this anthology. I like there to be something cohesive about my anthologies. All the rest of the stories are contempories. With a similar theme. This one is very well done but not a true reflection of all the other books to come. The characters are strong, and really well done. If not in this anthology I would truly love this first story all on its own. Arthur is an orphan raised by a maiden aunt. He is upper classed. And he has a promising career as a Junior Solicitor. Then he takes a turn down an alley and meets Gunner. He is having a skirmish with a local gang member. He ends up keeping Arthur who is his mate. I liked Gunner, rough around the edges, kind, fair, and pure alpha male. Now the next story I particularly found fascinating is Yellow Eyes by Gale Stanley. She is one of my favorite MM authors , and her story really caught my attention. We have Wyatt, gay alpha of his pack, who really thinks he is worthless and then there is Camden. Camden is shy, kind, takes care of the one person in the world who loves him. His mother. He has always hated his eyes were yellow. That is until he finds out more about himself and meets Wyatt. Together they learn to have confidence and love. I really would love to see this story expanded. Really is beautifully done. All the stories in this anthology have heart, soul, and really great writing. Some feel like snippets from the character’s lives and some will leave you wanting more. Over all this is a great way to meet some maybe new to you writers, and ready some short but amazing stories.
**Read and Reviewed for Welovekink and Manicreaders. **
Billy Boys Nicola Cameron
I found myself laughing at the play by the oh so uppity little snob, and the hard dog from the other side of the tracks. It just worked for me a lot of fun to read.
The Alpha's Assassin Doris O'Connor
Wow, yep pretty easy, hot and sexy. When the fates pull, all you can do is follow, it matters what not breed, nor status. If you belong together, its a done da da. (grins). Loved the characters and their personalities.
Discarded Pup Angelique Voisen.
Revenge is always sweet, as it is usually a driving force. Take something that was that belonged to you enemy. Aw.. The young bitten was sure he thought what he wanted, the big guy..after taking his revenge he takes the pup and has no plans to keep him.
Yellow Eyes..
When you a mixed what side to you belong on? Sometimes both sides are as dangerous as one. This lil half breed doesn’t want anything to do with either side his human or wolf nature. The sexy alpha will show him the errors of his thoughts.
Destined by L D Blakeley
A little old for that twink **it. Awesome line. Loved it. I do love male love, I am however not in the twink thing (smiles). Little human, devestated at catching his man and a DJ going for broke bent over a table. His night will get real busy real fast, The rough and gruff protector, wasn’t out looking, but he didnt have to be. It was already found for him.
Trouble by James Cox
This was just a cute fun story, like a energizer sex bunny. Poor baby has been to ever clan around, and booted out just for his love of sexing. (laughs) it doesn’t matter that well.. Some are mated and have other men, nope if its to be had, he’s getting is. Now being punished with being booted to a clan in outer space, will he do the same thing and cause trouble throughout the galaxy, or is it time for him to settle down?
A killer for hire, that’s what Zayden is. He doesn’t discriminate on who or what he kills. After a fight one night he is approached by a man who is hiding his identity. He wants his Alpha killed and he wants Zayden to do it. When Zayden comes face to face with his target he knows immediately that he can’t kill Quinton, they are mates. Now what is he going to do. A Kaleidoscope of Riveting Tales by the MM Masters
Bad Alphas is a collection of short stories that are long on MM love, strong men, great gripping stories about love, sex, exploration and the reconciliation with hope. I have a favorite in every story, a favorite shifter, character, story, love or message. Yellow Eyes by Gale Stanley is one of mine. The fight between the forces of good and evil is one that is rooted long in literary archives but when it comes from within, the struggle is more a journey of self-discovery and hope, an intimate reveal. But, which side to trust? Which is good, which is evil: where does one belong to flourish and with whom? This short was a kaleidoscope of riveting contradictions and challenges. I dare you to resist the temptation of Wyatt and Camden.
Who wouldn’t fall for an alpha shifter? And when these bad boys fall, you can hear the thud across town. The heroes in this collection are larger than life, and every story is a thrilling read. I enjoyed then all, but Yellow Eyes by Gale Stanley is one of my favorites. I’m a sucker for a guy with a gut-wrenching past, and the yellow-eyed half-breed had me teary-eyed. There’s something for everyone in this anthology and despite being short stories, each author created an intriguing world and setting for their characters. Well done!
Bad Alpha: Manlove Edition is an excellent anthology. Exciting and titillating M/M stories, very steamy sex scenes, and well described. All were well done, but my favorite story was Yellow Eyes by Gale Stanley. A half-breed, who doesn’t want anything to do with his human or wolf persona, but learns his lesson. I was thrilled to have received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. It's a 'must have' for your erotic library.
While not badly written, I didn't enjoy this collection of stories and didn't finish it. It will probably appeal to many but I found many of the Alphas unlikable and cruel with far too many stories featuring dubious consent or past sexual abuse. I expected some badboys or tough-as-nails-but-tender-inside kinds of guys but many of these guys are just brutes. If I don't have a book handy, it's possible I will go back to finish the rest of the collection and, if it improves, re-rate it.
The worst part of this book is that it's all lather, rinse, repeat. Nobody does anything new or different with alphas/mates/pack dynamics. The alpha is a great character type with loads of potential, but everybody just goes with the Alphahole and oh, no, the pack won't accept I'm gay, dubious consent, helpless submissive mate, etc etc. Same shit, different day, and that's a shame.
Nice compilation of bada§s alphas and the men they love. You've got your sexy alpha wolves, wicked bears, a combination of them all... you name it. It was fun. And hot.
I only enjoyed 1 story through this entire book. Not to say anything bad, because they were okay enough to finish and mildly entertainmenting, that the one story I enjoyed I had a tear or two dribble down my eye. So with that
