Dnf @ 25% I liked the first book in this series but this one was a little flat for me. The idea was good but I found myself wondering when things would start to pick up. I had a hard time getting into the characters. Overall at this point I decided to give this a rest in hopes I pick it back up soon.

I've never read Outlander nor have I seen the show, I know about the premise of it and I have to say I've been thoroughly impressed by Janice Maynard's Hot for the Scot series in which three childhood friends travel to Scotland hoping to meet their very own highlander. They arrive in Scotland and split up, each going their own way for a month to make their own adventure without internet, cell phones or other technology. I've never read Outlander nor have I seen the show, I know about the premise of it and I have to say I've been thoroughly impressed by Janice Maynard's Hot for the Scot series in which three childhood friends travel to Scotland hoping to meet their very own highlander. They arrive in Scotland and split up, each going their own way for a month to make their own adventure without internet, cell phones or other technology. I loved the first book so much, I knew I had to read the second one and while I missed its release I bought it as soon as I realized it and set out to read it. Scot of My Dreams is every bit as sweet and charming as the first book, but I also felt it was a bit more serious and sexy and I loved every minute of it.

Willow Ryman has second guessed this trip to Scotland since she and her two friends planned it; leaving behind her fledgling business and taking off for parts unknown in hopes of having a wild adventure with a Scotsman is so beyond her sensible side. As someone who has watched her mother struggle trying to make ends meet, and seen men go back on promise after promise Willow is pretty sure true love doesn't exist or at least it's not in the cards for her. As she explores the Scottish countryside she is knocked sideways not by a highlander but by a beast of a dog, only her savior is a man in a kilt and Willow can't help but be charmed. Bryce McBrae can't believe his luck when his dog knocks a woman down and then her sweet southern accent knocks him for a loop. Bringing her to his home is risky, but seeing her with his sister and his elderly uncle makes him want to know her better.

I enjoyed this story quite a bit especially considering Bryce is a Laird with a family castle and community responsibilities most would never understand and Willow is a hairdresser from a small town. Their lives couldn't be more different, but the attraction between them burns brightly and despite their concerns about becoming involved they just can't seem to keep away from each other.

An intriguing storyline, engaging characters, and a love story that succeeds despite the odds made Scot of My Dreams an exciting and memorable romance.

I liked this one better than the first in the series even though I rated them both 3 stars.

The whole "Outlander" obsession still bothers me because it makes me care less about the heroine since she keeps comparing REAL LIFE to a romance novel. I don't know why this series is rubbing me the wrong way--I typically love Scottish heroes in this genre.

I have been a fan -- okay, a wild-eyed worshiper -- of Diana Gabaldon's OUTLANDER series since I got the first book club edition back in the early 90's. James Alexander Malcolm MacKenzie Fraser is my Hero of Heroes, and Jamie/Claire one of my all-time OTP's (One True Pairing -- my #1 is still Buffy/Angel 4EVA. ;) ) I re-read the entire series from beginning to end, including Lord Lord John books and novellas, every time there's a new book coming out.

So when the series was announced and then prem I have been a fan -- okay, a wild-eyed worshiper -- of Diana Gabaldon's OUTLANDER series since I got the first book club edition back in the early 90's. James Alexander Malcolm MacKenzie Fraser is my Hero of Heroes, and Jamie/Claire one of my all-time OTP's (One True Pairing -- my #1 is still Buffy/Angel 4EVA. ;) ) I re-read the entire series from beginning to end, including Lord Lord John books and novellas, every time there's a new book coming out.

So when the series was announced and then premiered on Starz, I almost peed myself. Seriously. And I love that show. I love Sam Heughan, I love Caitriona Balfe, I love... well, the whole cast and crew. Part of the fun (and sometimes bane) of the TV show is the explosion of the fandom.

From that explosion has grown a whole new sub-genre of romance, which I call "Outlander Fantasy." Not just Scottish historical romance, but everyday women traveling to Scotland in search of their own JAMMF. This is the first one I've read, but there are two more in this series, and at least one other major book with a similar theme.

I am thrilled. Because whether I'm a fan of contemporaries generally or not, I AM a uber-fan of OUTLANDER, and let's face it, I've entertained these fantasies myself. So when I read stories like SCOT OF MY DREAMS, I get all happy and SQUEE inside. I get to live vicariously through these characters and their fairy tales.

This was a really sweet story with a good, rich thread of serious hotness. It gives enough of a taste of Scotland (especially of places I dream of visiting myself someday) that I felt like I was there, without being drowned in tour guide information. The heroine is sweet without being too-dumb-to-live, and the hero, of course, is out of this world. Not JAMMF, but who is?

Let's face it. In any other contemporary romance, I might be turned off by the implausibility of this story. This event just happens to take place at the right time. This perfect guy just happens to stroll by, and just happens to fall for the heroine immediately. He just happens to... well, I can't tell you everything, but there are a lot of coincidences and perfect timings that might usually make me roll my eyes and wish I had never picked up the book.

NOT THIS KIND OF BOOK. The "Outlander Fantasy" subgenre, and let's face it, a big part of other romance genres, are all ABOUT wish fulfillment for readers. Why else would we read them? For example, I loves me some vampire heroes. LOVE. But I'm not hot about the idea of REAL vampires, you know? When I think "real" vampires, I think more "Salem's Lot" than "Twilight" (which I try not to think about at all, thank you very much.) Plus, my favorite genres are paranormal romance and urban fantasy -- we're not looking at a whole lot of realism there, now, are we? So I'm more than willing to set aside my incredulity in exchange for a good yarn.

This is one of those yarns. The sweet spun fantasy of this book scratched an itch I hardly ever recognize in myself -- my unhealthy obsession with a fictional hero. Claire is lucky I like her and JAMMF loves her, or there'd be some CAT FIGHTIN' UP IN HERE!

Not really...really. Ehem.

In the end, I turned off the Kindle with a satisfied sigh, feeling a little giggly and a little fiction-jealous. Ms. Maynard has got a simple, clean style that possesses lyricism and richness. And now I want to read the other two books!

If you love Scotland-set contemporaries and/ or Outlander (and have those daydreams. Come on, you know you do) you'll really enjoy SCOT OF MY DREAMS. Just suspend your disbelief and go with it. It's worth it. ...more

I have to admit, I unexpectedly fell in love with Scot of My Dreams, ironic, because almost the same thing happened when I read Outlander, the book and TV show that inspired Janice Maynard’s latest novel. Bryce and Willow’s story starts a little slow, the beginning a set-up of Willow’s tale of how she and her two best friends take a trip of a lifetime to Scotland to find their own Jamie Fraser. Though Willow is as far from a romantic as possible and really has a hard time relaxing because she’s I have to admit, I unexpectedly fell in love with Scot of My Dreams, ironic, because almost the same thing happened when I read Outlander, the book and TV show that inspired Janice Maynard’s latest novel. Bryce and Willow’s story starts a little slow, the beginning a set-up of Willow’s tale of how she and her two best friends take a trip of a lifetime to Scotland to find their own Jamie Fraser. Though Willow is as far from a romantic as possible and really has a hard time relaxing because she’s too busy worrying about her hair salon back in Georgia, she falls in love with the Highlands long before she falls for Bryce, the Laird of Dunvarstone Castle. And this was the thing that connected me to the book.

Don’t get me wrong, the romance between Bryce and Willow is sweet and passionate and I rooted for them almost from the beginning. Bryce is every girl’s kilted dream. Willow is easy to connect with, haunted by her past and unwilling to let herself be dependent on a man until Bryce shows her that they can be partners even as she lets go of one dream for another she never imagined for herself. The supporting characters, Bryce’s sister Abby and his Uncle Horatio are delightful, especially Abby, who I found myself rooting for just as much as I was Willow and Bryce.

But it’s Willow’s love of Outlander that makes this book special for me. I’ll be honest, with the popularity of the TV show and the visual characterizations of the characters I’ve loved for 25 years I’d sort of developed a negative feeling towards Outlander. In the space of a year the story of Jamie and Claire had become such a pop culture hit that I felt it cheapened my quarter century love affair with them. Then Willow reminded me. She reminded me how I fell in love with Scotland, a place I’ve never been, through a series of books. How I wanted to stand in front of a stone circle and place my hand on one of the boulders to see if I felt anything. How my fascination with all things Scotch and Celtic was rooted inside of me because these characters have lived in my heart for half of my life. I remembered how the battlefield of Culloden left my soul with a dark spot though I’d never stepped foot on it. So, yes, even though this book represented the thing that marred my love for Outlander, it was the catalyst in reminding me of what Outlander means to me. And when a book can do that, it finds it’s own special place in my heart.

I kinda wanted to hate this book. The cover was a little too cutesy for me so I was expecting a syrupy love story. That’s not what I got at all, I was pleasantly surprised and delighted! Scot Of My Dreams was really honest and touching. Was it sweet? Sure, but not in a bad way. I am going to read the previous book in the series right now and put the next book on my TBR list right away!

The Good
-Oh man, Bryce. A kilted hero who takes care of others, yes please! There was so much to like about this I kinda wanted to hate this book. The Good
-Oh man, Bryce. A kilted hero who takes care of others, yes please! There was so much to like about this character. I adored they way Bryce proclaimed his love at the end; it was incredibly thoughtful that he let Willow make her own decision and it was so darn perfect that he was forced to make his declaration of love first.
-I really liked Bryce’s sister, Abigail, and her journey. Having a female sister really humanized Bryce. As well, Abigail’s interactions with Willow were some of my favorite scenes of the book.

The Bad
-It took me awhile to get into this book. By Chapter 6 I felt like I had gotten into the groove, but I almost put down this book and gave up a few times. I didn’t feel like the pieces were coming together in the beginning and that led to me not getting into the book.
-I still don’t really understand the newlywed couple that made an appearance at the hostel and the point of the other hostel guests in beginning. I’m just going to forget those few chapters happened...they didn’t move the plot/romance along for me. Also, the gift that the newlyweds in the hostel gave Willow totally set me up for a secret baby that never happened, not ok!

The Unique
What a fun premise for a book! I loved that Maynard brought Outlander into the storyline not only as the impetus for the gals to get to Scotland but that Abigail and Willow also watched the show. The Outlander element was just so creative and so on point. I can totally see some of my girlfriends deciding to take a trip to Scotland based on their love of Outlander (maybe not for a month though)!

Scot of my Dreams is the second book in the "Kilted Heroes" series, and the first book I have read by this author. Although technically a part of a series each book can easily be read as a standalone as they all occur at the same time, but with the three main women being in separate places in Scotland, and they don't have contact with each other.

This is my first book from Janice. I enjoyed this story and will keep an eye on finding more. I am a fan of Scotland and enjoyed the Outlander inserts here! I liked her story line. Loved this story. If you are a Outlander fan you will enjoy the references to the books and tv series. I hooked me from the first page. Three friends head to Scotland in search of their own Jamie Fraser. I am like Heck Yea I want to go too. I instantly feel hard for Bryce. Who doesn't love a man in a Kilt and a Laird to boot? I found myself grinning the entire time I read this story and with a few AAhhh... moments to add to it.

This is the second story in the Kilted Heroes series and it takes place concurrently with the previous book, Hot for the Scot. This is Willow's story and I found it just as cute as the first book in the series. From the moment Willow meets our hero, Bryce, sparks fly. This the first book that I have read in this series. I must admit I haven't seen any of the Outlander shows but I know about them. I could actually see three friends setting out on an adventure to find their own Highlanders. I enjoyed Willow and Bryce as the main characters. Ofcourse I just had to read this book because I love books that takes place in Scotland and because I LOVE Outlander books and tv show series.

It didn't take me long to read it because it wasn't very long. I enjoyed this book. It is well written and predictable but Ofcourse most romance novels are predictable.

This is book 2 in a series and you can read this as a stand alone but I do want to read the other books because I want to know what happened to the other women on their trip and all that.

Willow and Bryce's story takes place in Scotland, near the town of Inverness and his family's castle, Dunvarstone. I enjoyed the historical details the author included, including Willow visiting the site of the Battle of Culloden.

This one was just an ok read for me. Maybe if I were on the Outlander bandwagon it would have held more appeal. It was very well written though and the characters were interesting. There is lots of easy banter between Willow and Bryce which made the story enjoyable. Overall not a bad read, just not my cup of tea.
