This. Was. So. Good! When I first started reading it, I read the first chapter and immediately thought that it was going to be a tough read for me because it seemed a little complicated and intense, and in some ways it is, but it's so good!

I loved so many things about this: the fantasy world, the abilities/magical powers that the characters have, the characters themselves, I loved it all! The only thing that made me dock it a star is that it's a bit insta-lovey, and the slight love triangle. I

The Shadow Prison is the first book in The Ninth Chosen series. This is all about good versus evil. Light versus Dark.

Macy is a Chosen. She has been raised since her parents death at age six by her Watcher, Bastian. Bastian has taught her about the Light and its goodness. She has spent her life learning that she was chosen along with eight others to protect humans and Hiddens (all the others who humans do not see) from the Dark. Until one night when once again Macy's world turns upside down. Su

I got this book in exchange for an honest review and, honestly, I didn't like it. The plot was the usual fantasy fare: a chosen teenager has to save the world, but has never received any training in his gifts. Even though everybody else is a lot more qualified, only his pure heart and raw talent can stop the world from ending.

What annoyed me the most was that the characters did not grow realistically over the course of the book. Macy, the female sidekick, is closed off and annoyed at Tolen, the

I have enough difficulty with my own (familiar) world, so I am always seriously impressed when someone comes up with an entire 'other' world. 'Other' is in quotes because, as you begin to read The Shadow Prison (Book 1 of The Ninth Chosen Series) by K. A. Parkinson, it becomes apparent that while the book is set in the Utah and on the West Coast, it's a 'whole 'nother world' out there. (In there?)

There are forces of the Light and of the Darkness. There are humans and the Hidden. There's a lot t

I am trying to figure out where to start. I really liked this book. But in the beginning I was on information overload, and still clueless. I'm learning all these new terms, words, people, creatures, and rules. But I don't know why I'm learning this yet.

So the world is on the brink of war, but not between countries, but between the light and the dark (good and evil), there are chosen ones selected to protect humans and the light against the dark, and then the ninth one is chosen. The ninth is su

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

The Shadow Prison is the first book in The Ninth Chosen series. And it’s an awesome YA fantasy book, fill with magical creatures, shadows, friends and ancient prophecies.

THE STORY

Macy was chosen to protect the human race from the darkness since she was 6 years old, and she has spent the last 10 year training to be the best.

The legend said there are eight chosen and the ninth will unite and lead them all in the final battle against the darknes

I struggled rating this book, because by chapter 6, I would have given it two stars. It was just slow and didn't seem very unique. The last half of the book was 4 stars, so I gave it three stars. BUT, I will read the rest of the books in the series.
Fans of Mortal Instruments, I am Number Four, Michael Vey, Percy Jackson, Fablehaven and Harry Potter will see familiar threads running through this story. The first few chapters there was VERY little back story, so I could really see the similarities

In our world, there is a battle between Light and Darkness. It is almost time to choose the last person of power for the end battle. We start the story with Macy, a teenage girl with powers and her Watcher, Bastian. The creatures of the dark have found them and are coming with the intent to kill. But just before they strike, Bastian tells Macy that the ninth person has been chosen and they have to find him. Barely escaping, they go on the hunt for Tolen Parks.

Tolan has a special background and

This is one amazing book! It's like Harry Potter meets Percy Jackson, but better. I didn't want to put it down. Many books show the rivalry between good and evil, but most don't do it as eloquently as this one. I love the authors writing style. I came away from this book feeling better about myself and my potential to contribute to the world. I'm not sure this story was supposed to have religious undertones, but it did for me. I was reminded of who I really am and where I came from. I have stren ...more

I would first like to thank ebooksforreview.com for sending me a digital copy off this novel for review! This was a great opportunity and I greatly appreciate it. The story definitely had its ups and downs, but the overall premise of the storyline was well written and had lots of twists and turns that the reader would never suspect. In the beginning there was a bit of an information overload, but that was clearly there for a reason; to inform the reader of the world and give us the knowledge to ...more

I loved every aspect of this story. I can't even describe the ups, downs, laughs, tears and gasps this story put me through...except to say I loved it and I can't wait to read the next in this series! The writing style was unique for me because I felt like the KA was able to put me into a place where I felt where each character was coming from and feeling. With every scene I was rooting for or irritated with each character! I never knew which way Macy was going to go and I was floored by some of ...more

I was captivated with The Shadow Prison from the beginning. It starts off confusing and had me wondering if I missed a prologue, but Parkinson does a fantastic job of filling in all the gaps as the story progresses.

The story is definitely unique. There were a lot of twists and I got the chills quite a few times. It is highly fast-paced with imaginative world and character-building. The ending is a great stepping off point for the sequel.

I just loved this book! It is a fantasy about Light and Dark in a way I would never have dreamed of. The main characters are teens but don't think they are incapable due to their age! They are kick-ass teens with "gifts" that will be used to help mankind. Eight "Chosen" are trained to prepare at all times for the battle of the end times. The "Ninth Chosen", he/she would lead them into battle when the time comes. The time has come. I make it sound corny but the author makes it believable and susp ...more

The book I read had a completely different cover page than this one don't let that fool you, it's the same book. I really had a fun time reading The Shadow Prison: The Ninth Chosen. I usually don’t read fiction very often and chose this novel as a way of changing things up, so to speak, so I am so grateful I had to opportunity to review this book for free. I liked this book right from the beginning and I believe most YA would feel comfortable reading it beginning from approximately 5th grade and ...more

A Super Great, Very Impressive YA Read!
I absolutely adore this book! The author has done a bang up job with the writing of this really unique book! I was drawn into the book and held fast flipping page after page until I found myself at the end! (which was great by the way, no cliffhangers!) I was so entrenched into the story that the outside world just faded away, at the beginning of the book we are given a lot of information to absorb and it is important to pay close attention. The read is fas

Once it got rolling I was hooked.

I really enjoyed this story. New creatures, loveable (and hateable) characters and a storyline that gained in explanation and drew me in as the story developed. There were enough twists and turns without it being too much.

In the first chapter or two I did find it a little overloaded with new terms and the general alternate realm/existance that I'd never encountered before but I was intrigued by the end of chapter one and had enough of a feel for the flow of thei

This is an excellent read. It is about the battle between light and dark forces. The main characters are Macy, Bastian, and Tolen. Bastian is a thousand-year-old Watcher. He has been training Macy since she was six to take her place amongst the Chosen. Eight Chosen will follow a Ninth Chosen into battle to protect the human race from a great Evil. When Macy is sixteen, she and Bastian approach Tolen, a seventeen year old boy whose greatest concern is finishing high school. When he learns that he ...more

Well, this was one where it started off pretty good (running for their lives, how can you beat that?). It snagged my attention and was happy that it seemed to be what I'd hoped for. But then I started getting a little...annoyed. Sometimes, I felt like there was too much "tell" I guess? And the, er..."romance" was too convenient. The secret keeping, while I reckon is understandable, I found a bit annoying as well. However, the ending I enjoyed and found myself kind of wondering what would happen ...more

*** This book was given to me in exchange of an honest review ***

The Ninth Chosen:Shadow Prison was a fast paced, action packed, thrill ride! From beginning to end I was hooked! Tolen & Macy are our main protagonists. They begin a journey to save the world from "the darkness", meeting many obstacles along the way. Through it all they find love, loss & the power within themselves to defeat the darkness, saving those they love & the world around them.
The characters & settings are amply described.

I find myself unexpectedly giving this book five stars. I thought I would like this book, but I also thought it would be like so many young adult sci-fi romance novels – but it wasn’t. This book was refreshingly new and exciting. I love how the characters are based off of good and evil. There is a lot of darkness in the world today, but the light is stronger. The problem is we hear of all the dark, but hardly ever hear of the light.

This book made so much sense to me. I loved how the author put

I always try to keep an open mind when I read, and I'm fairly easy to please. I don't generally read a ton of YA, and even less fantasy... but this book is FANTASTIC. It's a simple concept of Good vs. Evil, or in this case Light vs. Dark. But it's so much more than that! By the end of the book I felt like I really knew the main characters and it pulled me in so deeply. I loved Macy, Bastian, and Tolen, and I think the following books will reveal even more to us. I laughed with the characters and ...more

I truly enjoyed this book. I rated it four stars only because it took me about two or three chapters to really start to get into the world the K.A. Parkinson created, but once I did I didn't want to put it down. This book will not only be captivating for teens but adults as well. There were many interesting subtle tie-ins to real world issue related to politics, and even weather patterns. I admire how this author was able to create this new world but still made it so connected to the world we kn ...more

This was an enjoyable read; 3.5 stars. The author utilizes the basic light/good vs dark/evil plot but has created an interesting world of humans and the "hidden" with which to tell the story. She is rather creative, even inventing a language that is an important part of the storyline and the powers/abilities of the main character. The author has even added in a love story among the supernatural abilities. I am looking forward to the second book.

The story is a little strange at first and it migh

A never ending battle between the light and the dark, a life changing prophecy, a wise old mentor, a sassy in your face heroine, and the hero with a golden heart without a clue - what else could you want in a book? I really enjoyed this book! The writing was absolutely terrific. I don’t see another book that KA Parkinson has written, so this seems to be her first book---but it doesn’t like read like a first book. The characters are well developed and appear to come alive on the page! The story line was excellent. I would say that this was one of the most unpredictable books I have read. From the first page this novel had me sucked in. It started right off the bat with action and so much detail you never want to stop reading. I flew right through this book and it isn't a short read either. The only time I was disappointed is when it ended, so of course I will have to read further into the series whenever it comes out. The characters have so much depth to them and give you a sense of their life that you begin to feel that you know them. For a young adult book this is definitely a ...more

Get ready to jump right in. From the first page the battle between light and dark begins. There's not much time to think before your pulled into this magical world. Honestly, I felt like I had just picked up the second book in a series and should have already known who these characters were and why they were on the run. I got this book from Inspired Kathy for an honest review.

It was alright, but honestly I didn't find a good hook at the beginning and while there was a lot of information it seemed like it was not the information I needed to really follow the story. I think in the first few pages they give you the names of 4-5 creatures but never explain any of them. While I was interested in the description, I really didn't find myself interested in finishing the story.

K.A. Parkinson was raised in a small suburb where she spent most of her time hiding under her bed with a book and a flashlight. She still reads as much as she can in between spending time with her husband and two children. She is the author of The Chosen Chronicles.
