I recieved an advanced copy of this book for my honest review. The 5 Stages of Riley Winters is a debut novel from RD Berg. Let me tell you for a first time writer, she knocked this one out the park. The story grabbed me from the prologue, and kept me intrigued throughout the entire book. The story of Riley Winters and how she crawls her way through the 5 stages of grief is told in such a way that you feel as if you are living the story yourself. Her words gripped me in such a way that at times ...more

How rude of me to put this book off for so long? What was I even thinking? RD Berg should slap me. Wow.

“You can leave a toxic situation, but the scars that are left behind or almost harder to deal with.”

And RD is absolutely RIGHT with that line right there.

The main character, Riley was fantastic. As a woman who has been in her position, and with a child, RD Berg depicted it perfectly. The guilt, the grief, the way you shut down and fight for your child. The author just did a fantastic job at m

5 Stages of Riley Winters is an endearing debut novel from RD Berg that address the realities of divorce and abuse while still giving the reader a sweet romance to swoon over. This story has it all: drama, healing, hope, love, and contentment. The sappy yet sweet romance is balanced by the realities that come with the end of an abusive relationship. As you read this story, you walk through the different stages of grief with Riley and watch her find hope for a future that is bright.

This is one of those stories that had all the prerequisite elements to being a great book. In theory the characters and storyline along with certain dramatic incidents should have produced an exciting and sensual read but unfortunately what I found was a fairly unconvincing plot along with weak and unengaging characters that tended to use over flowery and saccharine sweet dialogue, which in turn just seemed to highlight how schmaltzy and cheesy everything was. I love romance, I live for romance ...more

I am going to keep this review short and sweet...

I was intrigued by the book's blurb. I thought for sure this was a book I was going to fall in love with. Unfortunately, it wasn't. Now before you sigh... This isn't a bad book. It actually is a good book, but it wasn't a book that I fell in love with like I had hoped.

The story overall is a good one. I just couldn't focus on it. It moved slow for me. Although the writing is good, it just seemed to be missing something for me.

I was hoping to need s

Not good. I love the cover and the blurb but the love ends there. I almost didn't finish this book and this is surprising because I always finish a book. This book however really tried my patience. I commend anyone who has the courage and creativity to write a book and publish it but this book was just bad.

I just finished the 5 Stages of Riley Winters and I liked it! Riley has not had it good in the relationship department. Her ex, Aaron is a world class douche that treated her like crap. She finally leaves him but she is dealing with depression. She lies to her family to hide in her home, the only thing that gives her light is her son, River. River has a speech delay so she has had multiple therapists try to help him to no avail, they decides to send a guy instead. Boy, does Liam make the cut! He ...more

"You have to become a seamstress and learn how to stitch together the pieces of your heart until it's whole again."

As soon as I read the synopsis of this book I simply had to read it. Why? Single mother with a cute wee boy, a hot speech therapist and the possibility of love. That's how easy it is to entice me. You just know there is going to be a whole lot of cuteness involved and I cannot resist it.

Riley is a single mother to 3 year old River. He has a serious issue with his speech developmen

When I read this synopsis I jumped on the tour. I felt it would be a book easy to connect to because marriage , divorce , kids is such a reality and never easy. I have not been through the struggles Riley has with her marriage BUT drug addiction and abuse have been in my life by way of family members and exes so I have watched it rip through and destroy. I fell for River right from the start , OMG that little boy was special and I was so invested in his growth. Liam was probably my favorite char ...more

I liked the book. I was not drawn in from the very beginning but I stuck with the book and enjoyed pieces of it.

Riley, bless her heart, has had it rough lately. Her ex-husband, Aaron is a jerk who treated her like crap. After finally coming to terms with the situation and realizing what needs to be done, she leaves him but falls into a depression. She does not want to be around people and often avoids her family.

The only thing that keeps her going is her son three year old son, River. River is

5 Stages of Riley Winters is an powerful tale of a woman trying to pull herself out of the hell that has become her life.
It's highly emotional and at times I found myself wanting to smack some sense into Riley.
Liam makes up for her occasional stupidity.
He's truly amazing. Patient, kind, honest, trustworthy, an did I mention patient? That's something he really needed to be to get through to Riley, the road she traveled was a rough one and I understood her hesitancy where Liam was conce

Without sounding like Julie Andrews "Let me start at the very beginning ...." The cover art is amazing !! Not only is it artistic but it captures the essence of the book, the cover alone will leave you breathless !

Riley is an emotional mess and this woman brought me to my knees more than one occasion ! I think precious little River is her reason for survival well him and Liam. Liam is patient, kind and gentle. ok let's be honest he has the patience of a saint!

Liam is a speech therapist by day but

Before I even opened the book to read it I fell in love with this cover. This had to be one of the most beautiful and well done covers on a book I have ever seen. I felt like it really reflects the different sides of Riley.

From the moment I started this book I could not put it down. Riley's character was so relatable. I absolutely adored her son and the relationship she had with him. It felt very real. I understood her journey and all the stages that she went through when going through a major

A Great Debut!
This is R.D. Berg's debut novel and let me tell you that she is definitely going to be one to watch. She did a totally awesome job with this one. I was sucked in right from the prologue and held fast turning page after page after page. I have to admit though that what drew me to this book in the first place is the awesome cover, I mean how could you see that and the title and not be intrigued? We are pulled along with Riley, right there with her as she finds her way through the 5 s
I absolutely LOVED this book and must say that Liam has been added to my list of book boyfriends....SIGH!!!

The story of Riley is one that hit home for me. The struggles she faced and needed to overcome were heartfelt and I completely imagined myself in her shoes. She has a wicked past, yet through her strength and love from those around her she is able to see the light.

Liam....O.M.G!!! He was my knight in shining armor. Having been dealt a difficult past of his own, he finds that there is more

Wow. This is the first book I have read by the author and I have to say I am so impressed. Not only was the story amazing, it flowed brilliantly and I was in love with the whole process of the five stages.
Riley is broken. To say the least. I love that she finally takes control of her life even though there are some aspects she needed a quick boot in the bum for!! Enter Liam. He is perfect is so many ways yet flawed. These two together was pure magic. I loved the way music was intertwined in with

I received advanced copy from United Indie Book Blog for my honest review. Riley went through so much heartbreak but will she find love to able to save herself from the darkness hanging over her head. Sometimes the person you thought you new isn't the one who you love. Denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance. The five stages of grief we feel right along with Riley.
I absolutely loved this story. My heart broke for Riley and for River until Liam came along. Liam is perfection and he was there when Riley needed him the most. He's the reason she made this through the things she went through almost unscathed. And she went through a lot. I wanted to hold her myself because my heart was breaking right along with hers. She pulled through though. She came

This book is about change in life and how it can be hard and rewarding but how it takes 5 stages to get to where you want or need to be. Riley is moving on from her ex but this is hard for her and she has to deal with these five stages of moving on. The brightside to this darkness is her son and the gorgeous Liam but there are many surprises through the book which will keep you on your toes. A very enjoyable read that pulls at your heart strings and gets you truly invested in the characters. Als ...more

To Think I Almost Didn't Read This Book

Riley Winters is having a tough go of it. She's recently out of a crappy marriage and her ex is still a problem. Her son, River, is the bright spot in an otherwise tedious life. Worst of all, she thinks she has to carry her burdens alone and not let her family and friends share the load.

Liam Bowers is so many good things. I leave the details for you to discover.

I didn't want to read this book. Something about the cover and the blurb made me think it would b

I am a place in my life right now that I am going through the stages of grief, So this was a heavy read for me. It is not the same as Riley Winters I am not leaving a abuse relationship, and moving on from a divorce. This girl was cut down so much I am sure she feels two feet tall. Her saving Grace is her baby boy River who I adored, he has a speech delay and has to have a speech therapist come for so at home therapy, ( My daughter was the exact same way, we had speech therapy, and when Liam was ...more

Wonderfully Angsty Read

This was a "real" book. Riley became so real to me so fast, it blew my mind. Her heartache and triumphs became mine. She was trying to overcome her first marriage and all of the scars it left behind. Meeting Liam seemed to be a great start for her. Just as Riley thought everything would be smooth sailing, her ex was back in the picture wanting to see their son, River. I absolutely loved this book and how it completely drew me in.

A great read!

This is my 1st book that I have read from R.D. Berg and I'm not disappointed at all. I absolutely loved Riley and Liam's love story. Riley is a single mom with a 3year old son who has a speech delay and an abusive ex husband. When she least expected love can for a second chance and she took it. Although heartache struck again Love concurred in the end.

This book had me feeling like I was going through all the stages of grief along with the characters. I felt like I could totally relate to the story with the exception of being in and abusive relationship but the author makes you feel what the characters are going through and made it very relatable. This book is wonderfully written and can't wait to check out more from this author.

So I read this book to become familiar with the author prior to a book signing event and OOHHH BOY I’m so happy I did it! 5 Stages of Riley Winters really hit home for me. This book was very well written to reflect how stages of grief are not cookie-cutter. I went on Riley’s emotional rollercoaster and loved it.

DNF! Couldn't get into it. The writing was juvenile, the heroine was annoying. The instant attraction was unbelievable. Nope, not for me.

This book is all kinds of bad. The writing is mediocre, the story premise isn't bad, execution is lacking. The writing is almost juvenile. Riley, the main character, is annoying and just dumb. So many things she should have done and made the most sense to do...she didn't.
I really really tried to finish this book, just couldn't do it. Done wasting my time.

RD Berg lives in the great state of Texas with her three boys who drive her to the brink of insanity most days. She loves to read, write and watch her two favorite shows, Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead. When she isn’t enthralled with a novel or a gory show, you can find her in the stands loudly cheering on her boys at their basketball and football games. She has three strong beliefs in life; ...more
