I absolutely adored this story. It was the perfect kind of romance to curl up on the couch and read over the weekend. The chocolate, the dark, the boat, the forest fire and the lab...it was all just perfection.

Smart, sassy and confident, Natalie Holden loves her job as a chemist in research and development for Hershey and getting the funding to prove for a trial to prove her chocolate recipe can help teenage depression is just the chocolate whipped cream on top of her hot chocolate until she finds out the National Institute of Health is sending someone to proctor her research is a bit of a wrinkle especially when that proctor turns out to be the object of her teenage dreams, Luke Elliott.

I loved their playful banner throughout this book laced with sexual innuendo and chocolately goodness. Watching them try to keep their lips, hands and other body parts away from each other so as to not compromise Natalie’s research and Luke’s job was at times funny and at other times frustrating, especially to them! I enjoyed the time they spent with each other’s family both of them realizing how important their respective families were to them and I especially enjoyed that as they got to know one another better their respect grew for one another and did their insight into each other’s lives.

This is a romance on the sweeter side so while we saw Natalie and Luke enjoy each other often giving the reader the impression they were headed towards a more physical relationship, it didn’t happen in this book, but in my opinion that only made their story better and there was no doubt when they finally got there it was going to be spectacular and who knows maybe Natalie won’t need to depend on chocolate as a mood enhancer anymore!

I wish this book wasn't named Kissing Her Crush, not because that isn't what happens--that happens and more (but we don't get to see it because this is a Bliss book *sadface*). Ah, disappointing! The first book in this series - similarly about two people on opposing sides of a work project - was so much cuter! The 'forbidden' trope this time around just felt lazy, and I thought Luke and Natalie's romance was more awkward than swoony. Natalie has been in love with Luke forever but gave up on her crush a long time ago or so she thinks until she runs into him again. Natalie is out ready to celebrate the grant she got and runs into Luke. As they catch up she realizes that he is the one over seeing her project so that makes things a little difficult.

A fun read! This is a lighthearted romance novel about an unlikely couple. It was not a good idea for either of them to fall in love but they did anyway.
Natalie finally got a lab for her trial, she needs to prove her theory about chocolate and depression because a lot depends on her success. I loved that the heroine of this chick lit is a super-smart, endeavoring scientist. Natalie is sassy, sweet, level-headed, sexy, and fun to read. This was so fluffy and adorable.

I loved Natalie and Luke. Their banter was fun and I really enjoyed how they battled to stay away from each other. I loved how they had a brief history, especially how that information was shared between them. Added bonus that the science stuff wasn't too science-y.

There is a tiny bit of angst, but nothing too horrible. My only complaint is where it ended. I definitely wanted a bit more from them. Overall, it was a fun, quick read. I'll probably read it again ...more

I am definitely a mood reader and lately all I’ve wanted to read are cute romances. When I saw Ophelia London had a new book coming out, I knew it was just the thing to satisfy my craving.

Kissing her Crush is set in Hershey, PA, which feels like another character in the book. London did a great job describing the local attractions and what it’s like to live in a small town. I also love that something so big – Hershey I received a copy of this title from NetGalley. It does not impact my review.

I am definitely a mood reader and lately all I’ve wanted to read are cute romances. When I saw Ophelia London had a new book coming out, I knew it was just the thing to satisfy my craving.

Kissing her Crush is set in Hershey, PA, which feels like another character in the book. London did a great job describing the local attractions and what it’s like to live in a small town. I also love that something so big – Hershey Chocolate – is from a small town. Since it’s set in Hershey, chocolate obviously plays a big role in the story, which I also love.

Natalie works in the Research and Development department at Hershey as a food chemist and has recently been approved to head up a clinical trial including chocolate infused with a serum to help combat depressing in adolescents. Thankfully the book focuses more on chocolate than scientific explanation. We get enough information to understand what Natalie is trying to do, without being bogged down by the science, which – let’s face it – is what I prefer in a romance novel. Luke, who is more of a health nut than a chocoholic, has been sent to proctor the trial and if he performs well will be offered his dream job.

With their differing opinions on health and chocolate, Natalie and Luke are obviously going to butt heads in the lab. However, they also have an instant attraction and growing chemistry which gets in the way of their work. While there were several times I wanted to smack Natalie for how easily distracted she let herself get by Luke, I did really like them together. They have a bit of a history, growing up in the same town and Natalie has always had a crush on him. However, the synopsis states that Natalie was Luke’s “what if” girl from High School, which isn’t exactly accurate. When he meets her again before the clinical trial starts he doesn’t even remember who she is. But even without that plot element, their growing relationship was sweet and I liked to see that they developed a friendship, as well.

Overall, I enjoyed Kissing her Crush. While there weren’t really any surprises, it was what I wanted it to be and the addition of the Hershey, PA location and the side plot of a relative’s depression that Natalie is working on the trial for added a little something more to the traditional romance storyline. The story was cute and the characters were likable. I would recommend it to fans of romance.

Natalie and Luke are likeable characters and thus their romance is enjoyable. What keeps me from rating Kissing Her Crush higher is that the romance isn’t very memorable. I was far more taken with Natalie and Luke’s jobs than I was with their love story. Ms. Landon made their work sound utterly fascinating and I could have happily shelved the romance in favor of seeing more of their careers. I was also quite taken by Natalie’s relationship with her family, specifically her brother, the reason she is so dedicated to her work. In short, pretty much everything about the book stayed with me except the love story. This wouldn’t necessarily be a bad thing if Kissing Her Crush wasn’t a romance. Perhaps with a bit more development and a bit less predictability the love story could have been taken to the next level. Still, as it stands Kissing Her Crush has a lot to offer and I would definitely read more of Ms. London’s work.

Even though it's the second book in the author's Sugar City series, KISSING HER CRUSH can be fully enjoyed as a standalone. This is the story of Hershey chocolate chemist Natalie Holden and National Institute of Health trial proctor and microbiologist Luke Elliott. The two had prior history so this story could also qualify as a second chance romance.

I liked both the hero and the heroine. They both had serious issues to work through. Luke was divorced and had been hurt badly by his ex. His work was his total focus as he'd sworn off any permanent relationship. He was the NIH's observer to ensure that the trial was run appropriately. He came into the trial prejudiced against its success. His primary goal was not to be an open-minded witness to the experiment, but to make a memorable impression with the NIH and be offered a permanent job there.

Natalie was a strong woman who had taken responsibility for everyone around her. Her family was very important to her and her brother, who suffered from depression, was her primary motivator to push for the trial of her chocolate recipe. I thought Ophelia handled the subject of depression very well within this tale and it didn't detract from the enjoyment quotient of the story in the least. Natalie wasn't excited about having a proctor for her trial and was doubly on edge, when she discovered that he was also the boy she had fantasized about for years. That same boy had hurt her badly in school by kissing her and walking away like the kiss had never happened. She couldn't believe she was still attracted to him especially when she should be totally focused on making this trial a success for her brother's sake if not for her own.

I found KISSING HER CRUSH to be a well-written, entertaining read. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys lively contemporary romances with lots of sweetness.

Natalie Holden is a super smart, sexy, sweet and sassy, chemist working for the Hershey company in their research and development. She has just received the grant she has been waiting for to see if her theory about an Amazonian root mixed with chocolate, can boost serotonin levels in adolescents. This is the first step in clinical trials that must work for her to be able to continue with her theory in the future and there is a lot riding on this not just for her.

Luke Elliott is a microbiologist who has just been called upon by the NIH to proctor a new grant in his hometown of Hersey Pennsylvania. He is hopeful that this position as proctor means that the NIH is interested in him for a job with them in Washington DC which would be a huge leap in his career. But he also knows that his boss does not want this project to get any additional funding and he feels that if this theory wasn't so potentially dangerous it would be laughable.

Natalie has had a crush on Luke Elliot since birth, even after being ignore by him after their seven minutes in heaven when she was thirteen she still couldn't forget him, but six years ago at his engagement party she finally was able to put her crush to rest. Or did she? When Luke shows up in town two years after his ugly divorce and she finds out he is going to be her grants' proctor she finds that she can't think straight when he is in close proximity. Luke cannot take his eyes off of Natalie, he finds her to tempting to resist, but he must with this possible new job on the line. But their exploding chemistry is to much for them both. You will have to read all the juicy tidbits by yourself to find out what goes down. Loved the chocolate tasting. Highly recommended!

I loved this. I loved the banter and attraction between Natalie and Luke. These two trying to fight the attraction while working together. I loved Luke. Even when we was a complete idiot and let his past experience with his ex wife drive him to be a asshat I loved him.

Luke and Natalie were both hurt by people they loved. Natalie by a guy she worked with that turned her to build a wall around her heart. Luke by his ex wife who did a number on him and almost had him lose his family. As time went I loved this. I loved the banter and attraction between Natalie and Luke. These two trying to fight the attraction while working together. I loved Luke. Even when we was a complete idiot and let his past experience with his ex wife drive him to be a asshat I loved him.

Luke and Natalie were both hurt by people they loved. Natalie by a guy she worked with that turned her to build a wall around her heart. from the beginning the sparks fly between them. As they fight the attraction and each other you will smile. The banter is great and the easy way they are written so you understand what they feel and that they are real is wonderful. Each of them was close to family and their families were awesome as well. I loved Luke’s brother and how his family watched Walking Dead together. They showed Natalie that they are a normal family and not the rich elite family they were made out to be. Luke stole my heart with his way with Brandon. He got him to open up and start to become a teen again and that had me swoon.

This was a fun sweet story that will have you laugh and smile. The plot of two people closed off to relationships coming together but fighting to stay away from each other was nice. It was made better because for Natalie Luke was her crush and I think stayed that way forever. For Luke he started to move on and see that not all people were out to control you. He began to see a passion in Natalie for her work the same passion he had. Even though they had different views, it added to the passion of who they were and how they got along. The scene when they were creating molds was wow. Intimate and sensual without going to far.

A book about opening up and moving on. About finding love and grabbing it by the horns and not letting the past effect your future. A sweet romance that grabs your heart from the get go and has you laugh at the banter between the two and swoon at the gentleness that is Luke. What's not to love in this book, my two favorites in life is chocolate and kissing. Take two nerdy scientists, who have a history of their first kiss and working on a new drug for depression that has chocolate in it, a perfect match. A big conflict is that you have Luke as the sugar nazi and Natalie as the chocoholic, oh how I enjoyed. I thought the author did a great job on the teenage depression topic, wish there was a cure for it.

If I had to choose just one description for this story, it would be Sweet. There's this small town cozy feel to it that remains throughout the book. Natalie and Luke has a history that Luke doesn't seem to remember. Their jobs have opposing goals but nature and attraction won't be denied. I enjoyed how the plot wrapped up. Don't expect this to be a scorcher but more like a sweet simmer.

Super sweet and packs a punch!
I loved this story!
The imagery was perfect. I felt like i was right there in the moment. Incorporating everyone's favorite chocolate and an awesome amusement park was great. It brought back my childhood memories of visiting the park. The chemistry between the two is off the charts. I purchased my copy, and I would buy it again in a heartbeat. Definitely looking for more from Sugar City!
