Only those young enough can survive the pulse-pounding rush of tetra, a dangerous and addictive new drug that fuels a nine-minute burst of superhuman strength and speed. Alana West has been trained to use the drug so she can pursue the young criminals who abuse its power—criminals like the breakneck who nearly killed her kid brother.

On tetra, Alana is unstoppable. The rush

Thrilled to be able to share a little about a book I’ve been working on for the past eighteen months...

NIGHT SPEED is about teens who use a drug that for 9 minutes makes them able to...

The drug is highly addictive

And though you get a burst of superhuman strength

And speed

You also experience increased aggression

And a disconnect from reality

One girl risks addiction and death to infiltrate a group of young criminals who use the drug to...

A Young Adult book with high-intensity action, drugs, and catching villains in the metropolitan city in the US of A. That sounds like a pretty good premise, don't you think? Reminds me of all those superhero books we all adore, except this one has young teenagers taking drugs to give them superstrength/speed/and whatever super-what-have-you. Reading this book a few weeks ago, it actually was pretty enjoyable...

...until it didn't.

Here's the thing: this book had potential. The first seventy percen

Note: Spoilers.

• I actually reread the first couple of chapters before really liking it. I’m so glad I reread it. I think the first time I read it was the time I was so groggy from the lack of sleep… LOL. I mean I was actually looking for a book that will put me to sleep. I was reading Night Speed chapter 2 or 3 when I fell asleep. So what I am really saying is reading night Speed requires a lot of attention. *gr

This was such a fun book with a really cool concept. Now that I have had some time to process this book, I can see there were some flaws. I was so wrapped up in the story that I didn’t pay attention to any of them. You shouldn’t either. This was a very unique YA story. It is a story worthy of all the attention it is getting and more.

The beginning of this story starts with seventeen year old Alana working with the TRU criminal department of justice. Alana

After I read the blurb for Night Speed, I knew I had to get the book.

After a perilous journey to get the book (by which I mean getting it from Edelweiss), I started to read it. Holy cow, there was a lot of

And some of this

And a whole lot of this

And that was just the first chapter.

What else I loved about the book:

EVERYTHING!!!

I cannot recommend this book enough. It was pure, YA literature goodness. I'd give it 10 out 5 stars! It was that good. My reaction after finishing the book...

So I was lucky enough to get an ARC of this book and I am so happy I did. I knew I wanted to read Night Speed as soon as I finished reading the blurb. And as soon as I started reading I was sucked in and I felt like I was on terta as I was flying through the pages. There were twists in the story I didn't expect that had me gasping in surprise and eager to see where they would lead.

This book was amazing and I'm upset it's over. It's like I turned eighteen and my rushing days are over. If you love

Before I begin, I’m going to say that it’s impossible to put this book down — it was incredible from start to finish. Fast-paced, action-packed, and sprinkled with humor, NIGHT SPEED was a novel that had me flipping the pages at all hours of the day. (Reason #501265465 why homeschooling is awesome: READ ALL THE BOOKS. WHENEVER).

It’s been a long time since I’ve read science fiction, a genre I’m not a huge fan of, because scientific lingo can get confusing. Which roughly translates into science fi

This is the BEST action book I have read in a long, long time. Night Speed's plot centers around Tetra—a drug that makes you super fast for nine minutes. It also makes you see the world in a new and colorful way—and that's exactly how I felt while reading this book. Night Speed got my adrenaline pumping to the point where my hands were shaking and it left me breathless.

Glad I got to finally read this book. Night Speed is basically like The Flash but sort of druggie style for teens where there is a subset of criminals that use it to steal money and then the team that uses it to chase them down and arrest them.

I was completely into it for the first 50%, but then it kind of dragged a bit after that. Near the very end there are some nice twists. What I liked: For the most part, I liked the main character, I was interested in the set up. Howard is very good with ac

Night Speed was one of the most original books I have ever read. It was fiction but had realistic elements and a mysterious side as well, not to mention the huge shocker at the end of the book that had me rethinking everything.

The one thing that I really didn’t enjoy about this book was that Alana became involved in lie after lie after lie. While it was necessary for her survival, at times I would find myself wishing for her to just tell the truth. In books like these, honesty is always the bes

I was really intrigued by Night Speed by Chris Howard when I first read the synopsis, it sounded unique and thrilling and thankfully it was a book that I really enjoyed despite a few minor issues.

Our MC is seventeen year-old Alana West who has been trained to use a drug called tetra which gives a nine minute rush to pursue criminals who abuse its power, she is good at what she does but knows her time using the drug is coming to an end.

Alana started using tetra in an effort to fight the breakneck

Tetra. A drug that can give you superhuman speed and strength for nine minutes. But only people under 18 can use it. Alana West uses it for good to take down other people who use it for crime. But when the opportunity comes, she gets to infiltrate those people to take out their source, but then things go wrong. Will she be able to take out the source before her tetra rush goes dry? Will she be caught? Read this book to find out. I liked that this book had so many turns and twists and really make ...more

If Point Break were rebooted as an addiction memoir, it might look a little like Howard's Night Speed.

A year ago a criminal hopped up on Tetra, a drug that imbues users with super speed and strength, plowed into Alana West's younger brother while making his getaway, leaving her brother crippled. Fueled by guilt and rage, Alana becomes a runner, part of an elite teenage crime fighting force whose members dose up on Tetra to catch the breaknecks who use the drug to allow them to rob banks. Night Speed is about a young girl in a messed up situation. New York is a dangerous place in this dystopian fantasy, as the new menacing drug, Tetra, is on the rise. Alana works for an organization trying to stop dangerous criminals, otherwise known as Breaknecks, from hurting innocent people and stealing lots of money. Breaknecks use high grade Tetra to give them incredible strength and speed, allowing them to break into banks and stores to steal as much as they c

I don't think anyone else has made the comparison to the movie Limitless with this book, but I will. Night Speed is a mix between Limitless and a bit of the Matrix (if just for the badass scenes where people go fast and dodge bullets) and it was pretty good to boot.

Night Speed is about a highly addictive drug named Tetra that speeds you up and gives you super-strength, but only for nine minutes and only if you're young enough to handle it. If you're over eighteen, it kills you, and it'll still k

Books like this are why sci-fi will always be my favorite YA genre.

Night Speed has pretty much everything I want to see in a book...
...a fascinating premise.
...a straight-up adrenaline thrill ride.
...well fleshed-out characters.
...a "love story" that worked, even though it didn't work out the way I hoped.
...a well-executed exploration of the morality of real-life issues in a situation where no one's perfect and there are no easy answers.

There was so much to love about this book, but most of al

“I robbed a bank. Make that two.”

This was a YA sci-fi story about teens using a special drug that made them super-fast for 9 minutes.

Alana seemed a bit of a hot mess. She ignored her handler, did whatever the hell she wanted to do, and seemed oddly addicted to the drug that she was supposed to just be using for work. When she was then asked to go undercover she

I'm a little disappointed by the ending. I thought there would be idk more? It felt like there was so much build up and not enough release. Also I thought the whole wishy-washy aspect of Alana and her decision at the end was kind of weird and stupid. However, I really liked the story itself. I think it was interesting to see how the drug use affected different people and both sides of taking the drug.

Night Speed is a light, sci-fi book about teens being able to use some sort of a drug in order to run faster than humanly possible. Some decided to rob banks and some are there to uphold the law. Our main character has to cross the line in order to take down the whole crime operation.

I kind of wish it never ended. I want to read more about this whole world. Next book doesn't even need to be about the same characters. I just want to revisit this universe.

This book got me out of a really bad mood
